THE BROWNS BOARD

Rogers Unhappy?

Lerner hired a jerk in Mangini. He lost the team in NY and had a divided locker room. So far he continuing being a jerk, business as usual.

And for the poster who wanted his autograph...good ... he should have ignored you.

And you were in the locker room to know he lost it? And your opinion of him as being a jerk here is backed up by what? The guy has been locked behind closed doors evaluating the talent, or lack of, on this team and that makes him a jerk? The fact that he doesn't kiss the media's ass makes him a jerk?

What makes him a jerk so far? cutting Dorsey? Maybe rumors being spread by some media because they don't have anything else to write about makes him a jerk.

Just can't get my arms around this "business as usual" thing. What's that?

Maybe if he released his FA stratagy or his draft stratagy, he would be such a jerk? Maybe those players from that divided clubhouse who say he wasn't the problem were paid off? Maybe the real jerk is Favre the guy who divided the clubhouse?

Maybe you are like some of the media, nothing better to write about so you make something up?

To be fair, the PD article just repeated what Shefter said in his report. But Shefter's a credible reporter; I think this is legit.

Read Shefter's whole article on Orange & Brown, you don't have to be an insider to read it. He has he doesn't have a clue about the rumor and can only quess like everyone else. No word from Rogers about anything.

Any time I hear anything like this, between any two people (especially in pro sports), I want to ask the person complaining "why didn't you go and talk to him either time?". I mean if Rogers is really miffed, what is his excuse for not going up to Mangini on either occassion and talking to him. Why does Mangini have to come to him.

I'm guessing you're referring to Barry McBride's take on Shefter's report. Because it's not insider content, I'll just quote it:

There are really three possibilities about this story:
  • 1.
It’s about money. The team’s poor public image may have created the sense on the part of players or their representatives that they might have some leverage. The fact that the player's gripes are simply presented as Rogers being "disenchanted", and that they become public right before the NFL’s annual spending spree could lead to this conclusion.

2. Rogers is genuinely distressed and wants to leave. His gripes haven’t been spelled out, but it’s known that Rogers had a positive opinion about some of the people who have recently left the organization, which might have upset him.

3. The story isn't as severe as the report might indicate. In this case, Rogers is bothered by some things have have been happening, but hasn’t gone as far as the story claims. The Browns have already said that Rogers hasn’t asked for his release, and Rogers hasn’t even talked to Mangini about his concerns.

My gut tells me it’s “3”. Regardless of the truth – and you know we’re already digging to get it – the story will certainly get a lot of attention. A number of fans and bloggers have jumped on board the cries of despair are already being heard.

Personally, I think I'll just grab a seat on the fence here until I get more information. I'll save you a seat if you want it.

"Barry" aka Art Bietz, proprietor of Orange and Brown, doesn't have a clue either. Neither do his jackass columnists Lanie Atkins or Johnny Cakes Taylor.

I'd line up some trades quickly before the draft. See yah Rogers, Braylon, DA, and whoever else doesn't want to be here.

Lets get some Draft Picks!

I would add Brady Quinn in also. He would be worth some valuable draft picks, and since Mangini has already stated that he is not the "in stone" starter, why not? I have a feeling that the Quinn lovers in here are going to be very disappointed in a few months. Support the team fellas, not one player.

God this dumb thug is annoying. Shut the F up and do your job you whiny bitch.

I can't believe some of you people! Do you forget that he had a stellar pro bowl year this year? Calling him a dumb thug is really uncalled for and it's too bad that the rest of the 10 guys on D can't give the kinda effort he gave

Pretty sure rogers barely played 50% of defensive snaps. Effort my balls..

Now he is an asshole and nobody even knows if there is any truth to the rumor.

Sorry, but I'll wait for Rogers to say something before I judge.

BTW, the man laid it on the line every game while some of his playing partners were playing grabass.

It's crazy how the rumor train rolls. It seems as though originally it was just locals looking for anything to write about, and now Passan at scout.com and Schefter at NFL.com both have written about it.

It's not like those guys are struggling to find things to write about right now, they have the combine going on. So it makes you wonder if there really is something to this, or do they just feel it necessary to follow the lead of the Cleveland media.

Oh no, the coach didn't say hello to me! Does that mean that I'm actually not the center of the universe?!

I could imagine telling my dad that I was upset because my coach didn't say hello to me.....First of all, he would have stared at me, completely dumbfounded for about 5 seconds....Then he would've said, "Are you a man?"

These athletes today are so spoiled and so self absorbed that they have lost touch with reality. It's disgusting and it's also why I like College football so much more. You may have some prima donnas there...But it's not close to the degree that you have in the NFL. It has become a sickness in the NFL.

You disrespcting me? That question itself is a sign you are disturbed.

He's not gunna be released. the browns would have to pay him over 9 million and the whole reason why this has come up is because he's been with two losing teams his career and he wants to speak out about it. The defensive line would screwed up as much as the linebackers if he left. Mangini's just gotta say a friendly hello to everyone and everyones happy

This story is really unencouraging as a Browns fan. I love'd what I saw out of only two players on the whole frickin' team last season...Cribbs-unreal effort, and Rogers. Shaun tore centers a new one this year and did it on a very poor defense w/o much help at all. Mangini needs to assert himself yes, but isn't messing w/your one piece that you can build around on that side of the ball perhaps costly? Hopefully this will pass...I think that we have yet to see how dominant this guy can be w/some pieces around him.

Why in the world would we trade Quinn, after doing this "he needs a few years to learn the league" crap? A theory which many, like Troy Aikman, don't buy by the way. Who the hell would we draft as a QB?

One season Sanchez?

Stafford?

We'd have to burn our #5 spot to get them and we have a 4-year ND starter on the bench with less than 5 healthy quarters in the NFL to judge him.

No way. Use the first round draft pick QB already on the team and already under contract.

Draft other needs.

One of Mary Kay Cabot's sources confirms Shefter's report.

As it is, Rogers has asked the Browns not to pay his guaranteed $6 million option bonus next month, according to nfl.com's Adam Schefter, and he would rather be released after only one season despite the fact he's still owed $15 million in guaranteed money.

One bone of contention is that more than a month passed after the Greater Cleveland Sports Awards Ceremony without any word from Mangini about the media-room slight. Even after it was brought to the attention of the Browns that Rogers was very upset and that there was a sense of urgency, he never heard from the coach.

[...]

Mangini had to win over Jets receiver Laveranues Coles when he first arrived in New York in 2006. He flew to Coles' home in Jacksonville, Fla. last off-season to help resolve a contract dispute. Mangini, according to the Browns source, is confident he can help Rogers realize that he was busy assembling his staff, and preparing for the draft and free agency, and that he didn't mean to put Rogers off.

And here's John Clayton:

The Browns definitely have a problem with defensive tackle Shaun Rogers. Through his agent, he informed the Browns he doesn't want the $5 million in roster and option bonuses to stay in Cleveland. He wants out. According to a source, Rogers wanted to have a sit-down with head coach Eric Mangini but was told Mangini would meet with the team as a whole March 16 when the offseason program begins. There would be no individual meetings. The team controls the option, so if it pays the money, he will remain a Brown. Rogers signed a five-year, $37.8 million extension last season.

I wouldn't put too much stock in any statements that Cleveland isn't going to trade or release Rogers.

I seem to recall after Vilma called Mangini a "liar", Mangini stated that there were no plans to trade Vilma, and the next day announced that they were allowing Vilma to work out a trade (which was probably the right move even if it confirmed his status as a liar among the media and the players)

By the time Magnini was making statements that Pennington wasn't going to be traded or released, everyone knew that meant Pennington was all but gone.

considering i didn't like this hire in the first place, mangini's gonna turn me into ghoolie if this is how his regime is gonna go. you can't piss off your best players in a domineering attempt to exert your authority and expect to have any success.
