  1. Jackson has one maybe two plus traits. Great speed ( a minimal plus in the NFL) and a above average arm. My take is he's a lesser version of Josh Allen. The odds of him beating out Flacco are remote. Star of Sports Center? Not this year.
  2. Nah- not first contact, but having your franchise qb running 10 times a game is a recipe for disaster. Speaking of- just remembered, and guess who else is on the Ravens roster? None other than RG Knee. Exactly the same height and only 3 pounds heavier than Jackson, ran a 4.4 at the combine IIRC. Same build. Lamar didn't have the knee injury in college that Griffin did, but dang, it sure looks like Ozzie drafted his clone. Not so much worried about Jackson running, my question is will he have the smarts to develop into a decent pocket passer? LOL, I'm sure Griffin will mentor him on the merits of sliding instead of being a hero and taking a kill shot from the opposition.
  3. He's not a Brown, so let it go... Had far more rushing yards than either Michael Vick or RG III in college. Griffin had a far superior completion % in college. That wunderlich says he's not exactly too bright. Remains to be seen if athleticism trumps intelligence- I'm betting NOT, at least at QB.
  4. 1) Generally accepted by NFL GMs for a quarterback, below a 20 on the test- caution... 2) more trolling 3) we didn't take Baker at #1, the Jets were taking him at #3, the Pats were ready to trade way up. 4) obviously forgot abut 5' 10" Russell Wilson, and Case Keenum- 0.5 inch taller than Baker. Yup Boo, Mr. Split personality trying to have it both ways.
  5. RG IV went to yawn? Keep telling us how Hue makes the picks troll-a-matic. Still waiting on Paxton Lynch to get cut.
  6. Watched the highlights- those guys shot the lights out from three land.
  7. List is might parochial. Nothing from Cleveland (Romito's). I could about draw a line through the state, and there's zilch mentioned south of it. Apparently Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati are pizza deserts NOT!!!
  8. Hey, watching half pipe was like those who watch NASCAR to see the wrecks. Got to see two spectacular crashes. The top of the pipe is pretty much solid ice, and a couple guys hit it coming down from 20 feet in the air. Thought one of them was a broken leg or busted ACL for sure. Those guys are crazy.
  9. I'm with Canton Mike- no beans in the chili please. Regarding seafood- I'm weird in that respect- I have one (of many) food rules. If it came out of the water, I don't eat it. Once upon a time I thought I might like grilled swordfish, but I was wrong. Way back, up in Alaska I took a few nibbles of my pal's alderwood smoked salmon, and didn't like it very much. I can put a shrimp in my mouth, and five minutes later, I'm still chewing on it. Lobster? Forget it. Vacationing with my pals in Bar Harbor I told them- "the only good lobster is a dead lobster". I'll happily cook them for you on one condition- you have to eat them. Just the sight of an oyster grosses me out. You'd think growing up on the shores of Lake Erie I would eat yellow perch that were caught only a few hours ago, but I've never warmed to that stuff..
  10. Agreed- Skyline and Gold Star are abominations. I'm a purist when it comes to food- give me spaghetti with marinara. Keep the frickin' chilli separate. Local stuff gets overblown. Wife is from Toledo, and for the life of me I don't get all warm and fuzzy about the "World Famous" Tony Packo's hot dog- cheese optional. It's OK bar food, but I wouldn't make a special trip to have one. It's like the Original Arthur Bryant's rib joint in KC- it was a dive when we visited 20 years ago. (though the food was better than Tony's) But like Packo's, the celebrity autographs on the wall are impressive.
  11. NASCAR puts me to sleep- haven't watched in years. Now as to your menu- very similar. We celebrated Mardi Gras a few days early- watching the Olympics together. Almost duplicated your menu. Prime Porterhouse on the grill, ditto the baked potatoes. Mushrooms and onion rings soaked in Pine Club beef gravy. Since the wifie has decided to temporarily switch from beer to wine. Opened a 1982 Chateau Leoville Poyferre. 98+ point wine, and I'm seriously tempted to give it a perfect 100 score. I won't open something that good (not replaceable at current prices) and be a pig about it without sharing it with someone. Sue was wondering why I was slurping it down- because it was that good. Finished with a 2009 Dow Late Bottled Vintage port with roquefort on the side.
  12. We'll definitely have to meet up, even if there isn't a game involved. Have car, will travel. I've met Cal and Canton Mike at a Tailgate. LOL, as to changing color, depends. As I asked Z whan I met up with him in Naples en route to the Miami game in October- When do the palm trees start changing color? Ah, my good friend is hosting his traditional Super Bowl Party with a 65" widescreen, and unveiling his newly remodeled kitchen. It's the Soup-er Chili Bowl. I'm bringing a pot of some slow cooked French onion soup. The wines are 2015 Clio (host Bob is about the only person I know who doesn't love it), a 2013 Napa Cellars "V" cabernet (that I got at a massive discount, supposedly lists at $70, I got it for $25 bucks after rebate, bought cases of it. Tastes like a $70-100 cab), and a TBD old Bordeaux to keep host Bob happy. It's a mix of hardcore football fans like me and Bob, we'll try to console Minnesota Gene his Vikings didn't make it- and a bunch of wine aficionados that are just there to party and watch the commercials. & GO EAGLES!!! New England has won more than their share.
  13. ^^^ nice take Gip. Cousins could well go to the Jags- they seem to have everything else in place, and if you watched their playoff game- Bortles pretty much stinks. Regarding the Denver Donkeys- Elway has been spotted at every bowl game that a major QB prospect has been playing in... Plus they get to coach the Senior Bowl with Benkert and Mayfield participating. That alone tells me all I need to know about John Boy's evaluation of Lynch...
  14. Sloppy Joes? Zinfandel. Pizza? Beaujolais Nouveau, Dolcetto, or a lesser Chianti. Philly or RB? About anything red. You're welcome.
  15. It's taken me exactly 2 series watching Darnold- it's official. Kizer's accuracy sucks swamp water. BTW the suck swamp water predates you using it Gip.
  16. Regarding Virginia\Benkert- it was truly a team suckage effort against Navy. When his receivers weren't dropping passes that hit them in the hands, Kurt was throwing the ball 10 yards over their heads. The Cavaliers defense helped in the debacle sucking swamp water, allowing 452 yards of offense by the Midshipmen. If you watched any of the Army-Navy game, you knew Navy was going to run a lot- and Virginia was powerless to stop them. Unbelievably- Navy tried one pass the entire game- for an incompletion, as opposed to 76 running plays. BTW Virginia's one score came on the opening kickoff for a TD. It was all downhill from there....
  17. Yes Navy truly torpedoed the Cavaliers. I was hoping for a better showing by Virginia. In a word, Benkert really sucked. But it's gotten to the point there's so many bowl games now, way too many of them are meaningless, even for alumni. Both Navy and Virginia were 6-6 on the year, so here's your "Participation Award" for having a mediocre season. It may devolve to the point a future Missouri Mud Bowl will be forced to "award" a team with a losing record a bowl berth.
  18. That's if Hue doesn't get fired or die from hypothermia when he jumps in the lake first. (Current Lake Erie water temperature near Cleveland 36 degrees.)
  19. After the Bowl Game today Tour- I predict Camp Benkert is going to get mighty lonely. Sheeze, that was Navy they were playing, not Georgia. When his receivers weren't dropping more passes than I could count, (no fault of his)- Kurt was terribly inaccurate, and it sure didn't look like he was driving the ball on those deep routes. Rainbow arc specials that would be easy interception targets in the pros. Maybe just a bad game. Heard he accepted an invite to the Senior Bowl.
  20. Ag, you should have been here during the Dark Years when we had no team. The conversations were about anything to pass the time. Now didn't we have something going on about what rum was the best? I suspect the QB arguments this off season will rival those leading up to the 1999 draft.
  21. Them Germans have lost of wursts... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mettwurst
  22. Bowl Game 12\28, 1:30pm, ESPN against Navy. 400 yards and 6 TDs.
  23. Not worth the barf. Historically, we've done heavy doses of wine but.... This year it's Elsa's Cantina "Bad Juan" margaritas. Lots of them... You qualify as a health nut... Diplomatico is less than $40 a bottle, even in high priced Ohio- and worth it...
  24. 1) hoorta's limited diet says cheeseburger, lettuce, pickle, X mayo. To this day, I can't stand mustard in any of it's forms. 2) Sounds like you'd love world famous Tony Paco's in Toledo- ever been? If not, put it on your bucket list. I'm a plain dog on a grilled bun sort of guy... If you know of anything other than Oklahoma and Ohio State games, post it. Gotta continue scouting potential QBs.
  25. I've said it once elsewhere, I will only eat turkey under great duress, and it has to be smothered under cranberry sauce. Thanksgiving was a terrific prime NY strip on the grill with baked potato, and sauteed mushrooms on the side. .
