  1. Very true Gip, though Jerry seems to already have a relationship with Johnny, and wanted to draft him 2 years ago.
  2. Jerry wanted Johnny. Everyone knows it. I would guess Jerry still wants him, though Johnny may be showing that his problems are too major to coexist with life as an NFL qb. As bad as he's been, Johnny would be an upgrade at backup qb for the Cowboys. I would guess that Cleveland will call Jerry every day pushing for some kind of trade. Any value now for Johnny is a plus. Cutting him gains nothing. Keeping him can't be feasible, can it? Get what you can, sever all ties. This seems like the best move to me. This assumes that Jerry still wants him, which, with everything that's happened, may not be true anymore.
  3. Thanks mudfly. I never would've guessed he showed up to work drunk. Just amazing and sad and depressing. Looks like the Browns will get another 1st round qb in a few months. I hope he turns out to be the badass I thought Johnny was gonna be.
  4. Well, I wrote yesterday in 2 other threads about this latest debacle. I knew the concussion story was BS. I think the story now turns to johnny's health. He is obviously in way over his head, and he and the Browns are suffering heavily for it. I just can't believe that such talented people with such great possibility let substance abuse wreck their lives, but Johnny is just another in a long list of names to do so. For him to have any chance at any NFL life now is a true longshot.
  5. If this is true -Johnny in Vegas - I think it reinforces the thought that the concussion was a contrived excuse, and that Johnny is done as a Brown and knew this fact before he went to Vegas. Yet another really dumb move if true.
  6. One more thing, I think a concussion is the EASIEST thing to fake, because of the massive amount of fear the NFL has toward the subject. "I have a headache and I'm having trouble remembering what I had for dinner last night". Concussion protocol.
  7. Everybody here knows me, I am a huge Johnny fan (boy). I have more experience watching Johnny than most people here. This whole thing is fishy as hell. The latest Johnny video, the Wednesday concussion... This is weird. Johnny, despite his really bad judgment, is not a dumb guy. He's also one of the most competitive people you'll ever see. He played through tons of "injuries" in college, including a broken thumb, bad throwing shoulder, hurt knee, and many "possible" concussions. I just can't see him reporting a concussion on Wednesday if he thought he would be in a Browns uniform next season. He would love nothing better than to beat Pittsburgh, but something we don't know is making him choose to not do what he loves to do - play football. All this is speculation on my part, but this looks like a way to cement Johnny going to the Cowboys. I don't think there's any way he is back with the Browns next year, and I don't think any other team would want him, which is sad for me because I really think he has NFL talent. So whether Jerry trades a late round pick for him or picks him up after the Browns cut him, I think Johnny will be a Cowboy next season. If I'm right, this is just another bad chapter in the "Johnny and the Browns" book, mostly due to Johnny's immaturity and stupid decisions. Maybe I'm wrong and Johnny doesn't even know what day it is due to his concussion, but that would go against everything I thought I knew about him.
  8. Johnny is already showing he can win games in the NFL. IF he can avoid major off-field mistakes, he will be a good qb. I hope he stays with the Browns to do that.
  9. 21-31, 270 yds, 1/1. More importantly, a Browns win. How many Browns fans thought this was possible from Johnny last year? I realize he set some bridges on fire with his horrible first year, but he looks nothing like he did last year. He hasn't looked like that even from game 1, when he filled in for a concussed McC. The only two games I've been able to watch were Tenn and Pitt. He played well in both games. You don't throw for 370 yards against the steelers if you have no NFL ability. He makes some stupid mistakes. Yes, second year NFL qb's do that. He also has the ability to turn -10 yard sacks into 70-yard touchdowns. All you that say he's too small, did you watch the Pittsburgh game? He continually got hit and got back up to keep fighting. I realize Johnny invites haters because of his actions, he's his own worst enemy that way. But those that have said Johnny lacks the necessary skills or measurements to play in the NFL have already been proven wrong. He is playing well, he's played well all season. And he's only going to get better. I admit, his off-field stuff causes concerns, but on the field, he is a valid starting NFL qb. I type all of this while watching Matt Cassel look like dog shit. It's hard to play qb in the NFL. Johnny is 23 and playing well. Give him some more time and you might be pleasantly surprised.
  10. The thing is, though, that Johnny is who he always was. The Browns and Pettine would not have known or cared what he did as long as he showed up for work. Then the damn video came out. Hell, if Johnny had started Monday and won, then the video had come out Tuesday, would the punishment be the same? Everyone knew what Ray Rice did, but until everyone saw the video, he was going to still be an NFL running back. It's just a damn shame that something so silly and seemingly harmless (having fun drinking in a bar) could cost so much. But if Johnny promised to stay away from bars, I don't see what else Pettine could have done. UUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
  11. Thanks, CD. That's good to hear. I still wonder what it means, though. Does it mean that Johnny goes back to first string if he avoids drunk bar photos this week? Does he have to compete for the job in practice? Is he third string for the rest of the season? This is all so "Days of our Lives". I don't expect Pettine to reveal anything, but I am certainly curious. If drunken bar photos prevented Johnny from playing in Aggieland, the greatest Aggie football player ever would have never seen the field. Maybe that's what he needed. Real consequences for his less-than-scrupulous lifestyle. Maybe, like Stabler and Namath, he should be left alone if he's doing his job and not breaking any laws. Who knows? It's just a shame that guys like Johnny and Josh Gordon can't curb their seemingly mundane needs and see the bigger picture. Hopefully it's not too late.
  12. This is what I wrote in the other thread. " Well said, mud. One straw too many. I don't know this, but I'm guessing that during his time at A&M, he got away with a lot, much more than was ever reported. His incredible talent made it easy to overlook the probable partying. Not a new story. It happens all the time. Yet again people like me are saying "if I made millions to play a game, I'd never screw it up". And it might even be true, but not for Johnny. Or dozens, hundreds, thousands of others who have screwed up. It's depressing that this is likely the end of the Manziel--Browns experiment. I was so hoping that the Browns would grow to love Johnny as he "wrecked the league". Looks like he will forever be another in a long line of failed qb's for Browns fans, and it's his own fault. I truly believe he has the ability to be a good qb in the League, maybe even great. Sadly, his extracurricular proclivities may prevent us from ever knowing how good he could have been. Very depressing." I've been thinking more about this, and i have some questions/observations. 1. Johnny is addicted to the "party", not to alcohol or cocaine... BUT, he is also addicted to competition. Johnny's problems at A&M always coincided with time away from football. This was only mitigated when his opportunity to compete was in peril. So, in actuality, the decision to make him the starter came at the worst possible time - before the bye week. His competion-addiction on hold, the party-addiction kicked in. 2. Now that Pettine has put Johnny at 3rd string, what happens next? Say McCown and Davis play terribly, is Johnny even an option? Say they both get hurt and jphnny goes on a 3-game win streak, then gets filmed doing EXACTLY the same thing he did in Austin? What then? I ask this because it has to be known now. They can't be taken off guard if it happens. They've set a bar that may be too high for Johnny to ever realistically reach. This may be the plan, to trade or release him, but if so, they should do it now, before something happens to muddy the waterz even molre. This whole situation just sucks. I was so psyched to see the Browns Monday. I will still be rooting for them, but I'm gonna be bummed.
  13. Well said, mud. One straw too many. I don't know this, but I'm guessing that during his time at A&M, he got away with a lot, much more than was ever reported. 14. I realize this might be viewed as petty, but I've seen this phrase twice in here, and it's incorrect. Clear as mud --- very unclear Plain as the nose on your face --- very clear
  15. I hate this. The sad part is that Johnny is ready to start, and it will be devastating to him if he doesn't... And yet, he couldn't seem to help himself. Part of me wants to say this is no big deal. And for almost everyone, it would be no big deal. "22-year-old has fun with friends"... No big deal. And yet, he said things would be different. - no distractions. And here we are again...distracted. So where to go from here.... Start Johnny, see how he performs. If he does well, tell reporters you're not johnny's babysitter. If he's doing his job well, and not breaking the law, then let it go. He is allowed to have a life, and he can legally drink, even though he went to rehab. Now, if he has broken some agreement made with the Browns, that changes things. Other than that, let him play. He has just started to show the potential he has, see where it leads.
  16. TN game, Johnny did ok, but the team played better. Defense was great, and run game was good. Yesterday, and vs. cincy, receivers dropped td passes, run game was bad. Even the refs screwed up the Johnny run that should have been a td. QB can't control that.
  17. Well, I understand I'm coming from a point of view that most Browns fans hate - a Johnny fanboy... It sucks to lose like that to the Steelers, and there's a lot that needs fixing, but Johnny looks light years better. And there's no reason to think he won't continue to improve. And yes, he's small, but he rarely has balls batted down, and he's a tough sob. He took a beating yesterday, but never quit. Hopefully the Browns turn things around, and I hope Johnny is part of it.
  18. Well, I was able to catch much of the game. Johnny was not the problem. No help from the run game, receivers still dropping balls, so many penalties, defense under-performing... To say anything negative about Johnny's performance yesterday is just basically admitting you don't like him. On the bright side, Johnny has turned a corner. He looked confident and in control yesterday, even when faced with 2nd n 14, or receivers dropping crucial passes. He is just gonna get better. I admit, last season looked bad, then rehab, but he just threw for 370 in his fifth start. 70+ completion %. Against Pittsburgh. The kid can play. If he continues to get better, he will become a leader, and hopefully start getting wins.
  19. Reasons are not excuses. There is an overarching reason that the Bengals won. They are a much better team, especially last night with so many Browns starters out. Johnny isn't paid to catch passes or make tackles. McCown would have lost last night, too. But to not start Johnny now, at 2-7, with nothing to lose, would be a terrible decision (glad you agree) . I say this knowing full well Johnny might not be the guy, but at least try to find out one way or the other.
  20. The truth is that it's hard to judge Johnny based on last night. Browns were missing 6 starters, I think? Bengals look like a top-5 NFL team. The fact that Cleveland was in the game as long as they were is a miracle. To judge any backup qb based on last night's scenario is unfair. Judge him compared to his start against cincy last year. The difference is night and day. Johnny threw accurately (at least 4 drops), scrambled for positive plays many times, threw the ball away when he needed to, had no turnovers or fumbles. He is still 22, still learning, still getting better. Don't expect perfection, expect improvement within reason. Last night, playing a really good team with so many good starters out, was about as good as you could expect from Johnny. To expect more from a 22-yr-old in his 5th game is unrealistic and unfair. To base the outcome of the rest of his career on that game is dumb. He should keep starting, see how he does, get some answers now. What the hell is there to lose?
  21. Johnny looked very good, I thought. He was not even close to being the cause for the loss. He made several good throws that were dropped, and he's working with a mediocre at best receiving corp. I agree, McCown is better right now, but neither can overcome the other deficiencies of this team. I think it would be smart to keep playing Johnny for this season to see if he can build on this - it's his 4th start.
  22. I never fled. Call me a fanboy all you want. Plays like the one he made yesterday to seal the game are memorable - they last. Picture Johnny making 5 to 10 plays like that every game and you come close to figuring out why Aggies love Johnny. But it's not just that. He's a good kid. Let me repeat that. HE'S A GOOD KID. Find a coach or teammate from his past that doesn't like him and it will be the first I've heard of. He's a kid you should feel good about rooting for. He's been told all his life he wasn't good enough, big enough, but he has always stood up and fought against that. People hate Johnny Football but they don't even know him. Did he let the hype get to him? Did he flaunt his incredible success in all the faces of the people who said he wasn't big enough/good enough? Yes. Has he been young and stupid? Yes. We all have. God knows what we all would do with that kind of fame at 19 years old. But he is not some brash, young punk like some think. He simply played the game of college football in a way that made people take notice. As the breathtaking plays mounted, so did the media, the women, the celebrity, the parties. He probably lost himself somewhat in all that craziness. And he could have lost everything, but thankfully he made some good decisions, and is on a good path now. The turnaround he has made these last 10 months make me more happy for Johnny Manziel the person than Johnny Manziel Texas Aggie/ Cleveland Brown quarterback. Yesterday was awesome, but Johnny still has an uphill battle in front of him - in life and in football. I'm glad that Johnny won some goodwill from Browns fans, and I hope there are lots more Browns wins to come. I don't mind saying I love the kid and I will continue to root for him on and off the field.
  23. Eat shit, Merrill Hoge. I am so psyched about the win. I think Johnny made 2 of the biggest plays of the game - the first td, which had to relieve some pressure for him and the team, and of course the last td. In between those 2 plays, the Browns defense and running game were his best friend. They were both dominant in the first half, and made this a true team win. The defense was as impressive as I thought they could be, but I think they were getting a little worn out in the second half, due to the offense shutting down. But Mariota won't forget them. I would be fine with Pet going back to McCown next week or whenever. Johnny has a long way to go still, and still May not be ready for the weekly ups and downs. Hell, he got very lucky that he wasn't the goat today, with those 2 fumbles. But this win today was huge. Hopefully he will build on it and continue to get better and smarter.
  24. This shouldn't matter. If the defense isn't great hopefully Johnny won't start to do too much and commit bad turnovers that cause the game to snowball out of control. This should be a good test of where he is - full week to prepare, game plan, tape of mistakes from last week to learn from his mistakes. Damn it would be nice if he just came out and kicked ass.
