It would be easier to attract players to the organization. Believe it or not, there are players that don't like playing in the freezing wind, rain and/or snow. Like Anthony Walker who just told his agent to find someplace warm and that he's sick of the cold. Or Deshaun Watson who doesn't like the cold such that it took a quarter billion guaranteed to get him here.
Great perspective...
I've always been a fan of being in the elements for football. It's just the way I was raised. I prefer outdoor stadiums.
However, if a new domed stadium attracts the talent necessary to win a Super Bowl. Do it. Right now. Everyday of the week and twice on Sundays.
It's where the game is heading...

Cleveland GUARDIANS (8-3) lost tonight to the WSX 7-5 after giving up 5 runs in the 1st inning.
Ends their current 5 game win streak. Time to start another in the rubber match .... they've been great at those in 2024.
- BUT - We had cheeseburgers on the grill about 7 pm tonight. Garden green onions -and- tater tots in the oven ... mmm-mmm. As always around here...... DEE-LICOUS !

Moving right along, no time wasted on one game or never a bad meal. Bon appetit, y'all.
Go Tribe!
I wasn't expecting this. I just hope it's consistent and not a flash in the pan.

The best Browns teams in my lifetime all had white facemasks. If we can rekindle some of that magical run of the mid to late 80s, I'd be a-okay.

I think a $2 billion dome might be wishful thinking from the Haslams, even if I totally understand fiscally why that makes long-term sense.
A retractable dome might be a complete pipedream then.
I'm with you there.
SoFi in LA cost around $5B to build.
Allegiant in Las Vegas cost around $2B and that would have been pre-COVID pricing.

48th in yards and 2 TDs. And we just gave him 41 mill guaranteed. This FO amazes!!
Just think about all the guaranteed money we're all leaving on the table by not putting up numbers...

Just speaking from a football standpoint, the league has expanded to the point where there aren't enough quality players to fill all the job openings.

Good back and forth in the 4-5 exchanges here. This is what analytics brings us. It's all about timing the pendulum and, now, with the fuzzy math GMs can create with contracts, it's going to pad the blow of failure even more.
Missing on a transaction used to seem like such a nail in the coffin now. Now, teams shrug it off, willingly eat the money and jump in line to throw the dice again.
Those analytics have moved to the league offices as well. The NFL knows it has pretty well tapped out it's true, traditional customer base.
It needed new horizons and willingly hitches itself to the wagons of Taylor Swift and sports gambling. GMs want/need each because the money will just keep getting bigger and bigger.
Maybe that makes the math less fuzzy, my guess is that it will only make the math more fuzzy.

It's cool. I like Vrabel's confidence.
I don't expect him to be part of the Browns more than one season.
I'll just enjoy it while he's in Cleveland.

Flacco wants to play. We have Watson. So Flacco won't play unless Watson gets hurt. But Flacco wants to play. So he's going to go elsewhere to play if at all possible. Meanwhile, do we sit on our hands? The answer is no.
9 hours ago, Dutch Oven said:I get this, but what team out there is seriously thinking of signing 39 year old Joe Flacco and starting him?
Then again, I don't understand why the Browns would look at Flacco and Winston and go "Well both will sign with us, the money is comparable, so lets go with Winston."
I really think they didn't want to deal with a QB controversy. I kind of think that's why we have Winston now. I think this speaks to how confident they really are in Watson coming back and playing well. (Not very confident, I suspect)

The "Flacco wants to return to Cleveland"
2 weeks ago, Flacco himself made radio stops w/Sirius & espn. Heard both.
Flacco & Stef were both raised in Philly. Joe commented on a great player/coach relationship he had w/Stef. Loved the guts, Stef showed as the play caller. Joe didn't want that last game to be his last here. Joe admittedly felt he let the room/fans down. Joe took that loss hard on himself. Yes, Joe wants a chance to play, but he really wants to win more than the money. He's secured his money..
Few days after Joe Flacco spoke & days after combine ?
Andrew Berry is building this team to give DW the best possible opportunity to win.
Berry may not admit this publicly, he is also taking away any excuse DW could make.

Good thing we kept the DL. Now need some LB.

For the record, I said I didn't want Flacco to see the field until the playoffs started because I was afraid he was going to get hurt before the playoffs started, or what we saw with him peaking during the regular season and fizzle out. Ideally I would have liked to see DTR get us to the Bengals game and have Flacco start the Bengals game as a tune up for the postseason. I did not like the way that last game was handled.
I 100% agree that the Bengal game was a disaster. It killed four solid weeks of momentum.

It's safe to say that Flacco won't be coming back.
I hated him as a Raven, enjoyed him as a Brown. November and December were my most enjoyable moments, as a fan, since 1994.
I trust Berry, he must believe it was a flash in the pan.
In the moment, I hope it was as well. I'd hate to see him go somewhere and light it up.
But I understand the move, the Front Office doesn't want the stadium chanting Flacco, the first time DW throws a pick.

Very happy with Za'Darius Smith coming back.

Similar in percentage to the Brock Osweiler numbers when he came to the Browns. Not what he was paid but what the Browns paid vs what the Broncos paid.
-
The Steelers are paying him $1.2M, the Broncos $38M for the 2024 season.

So after this year, he could leave unless they give him an extension
Correct.

Scrolling through some comments from Broncos fans. They're 50/50 on the trade. Half are sick they only got a 5th & a 6th for him. The other half are saying good riddance for no effort. Mark Schlereth was critical of Jeudy.
Denver is a tough situation. I think the change of scenery will do him well.
I'll take a guy that averages 14.5 yards a catch any day of the week.

He and retired Baton Rouge-area sports writer Sam King concluded that Maravich would have averaged about 54 points per game had a 3-point line — adopted by the NCAA in 1986 — existed when he played. Maravich died in 1988 at the age of 40 after collapsing during a pickup basketball game.
I found something similar reading that went into a little further detail.

It's amazing that TWO teams (Seattle, $26 million, Denver $85 million) are paying him to NOT be their QB...
If anyone is looking for a guy to not play QB, I'll gladly offer my services and for a fraction of the price.

Well said. He beat the Browns this year without even breaking a sweat. That said, I don't think he's ever been the same guy since he had that brutal dislocated ring finger injury on his throwing hand. I'd rather see the Steelers rent him for a year or 2 than Justin Fields. At the Combines they were saying the Bears already announced they're taking C-Will. They already got the acro going.
Funny you mention Justin Fields, because the Justin Fields to the Browns articles were flying yesterday.
▪︎ Cleveland Browns honor past success with white facemasks ?
in THE BROWNS BOARD
Posted
I understand the importance of the classical gray facemasks, and I understand why guys love the gray facemasks and what they represent in the history of the Browns.
When I think of the whitemasks, I think of my watching games with my Dad, cheering until we were hoarse and crying until there was nothing in the tank...The Drive, The Fumble, the loss in Denver in the '89 AFCC. It reminds me of Mike Baab saying, "I've never met John Elway and if I did, I'm not sure if I'd shake his hand or punch him in the face." The white facemasks make me think of Clay Matthews intercepting Jim Kelly, Eric Metcalf's two punt returns against the Steelers, Brian Brennan getting yards after the catch, Reggie Langhorne going over the middle and Webster Slaughter spiking the ball between legs after sprinting into the end zone and Hanford Dixon and Frank Minnifield locking WRs down. They make me think of beating Dallas in Dallas and the magic of the 1994 season.
For me, there are great nostalgia with both and I would have embraced either as a nod to my childhood heroes of both eras.
