A Sports Dynasty of Dynasties

Sorry, but that ain't nothing. Here is a quote from Wikipedia:

"Kenyon's sports teams, which compete in the North Coast Athletic Conference, are referred to as the Lords and Ladies, and their colors are purple, white, and black with gold often added as an accent. The college's men's swimming team is considered the best in NCAA Division III, for winning, from 1980 through 2009, an NCAA record 30 consecutive national championships."

Kenyon Colleges swim team has the longest streak of national championships in any American sport at any level that is known. and the Division III level has something in the order of 450 schools.

I don't even think you could find any high schools that have won state titles in any sport longer than that.

In a word, "WOW"!

But I wouldn't call Trinity's achievement, 'Nothing'.

Here's another impressive Dynasty. This is actually a rival high school of mine back in Tampa, FL. Here's a quote from Wikipedia:

"The Brandon Wrestling team held the national record for the longest winning streak (34 years) and the longest active winning streak by a high school sports team (459 wins). This accomplishment is often referred to as "The Streak.". That streak came to an end on January 5, 2008 as they were defeated by South Dade High School 32-28. The team also boasts 19 Florida Team State Championships and over 100 state placers"

ESPN actually did a documentary on them back in 2008 when the streak got broken. They actually filmed one of their matches at my high school during my senior year. It's a great documentary if you ever get the chance to check it out. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/highschool/...&id=3372679

Incredible.

Too bad we spend so much time focusing on professional sports, sometimes to the detriment of appreciating what teams at other levels accomplish.

PS I never even heard of Philadelphia UNIVERSITY until I read that their basketball coach just passed Bobby Knight on the colleage wins list. Great story.

IMPRESSIVE Streaks!

34 years and then break The Streak by a couple back points? ahhhhh sickening!

can't wait to end the Browns Inverse-SB Dynasty streak.

i have this recurring nightmare where we win it all the time, but it's completely anti-climatic. the stands are nearly empty, no one's really celebrating..i'd really love to know what i did to piss off the voodoos so badly.

Here you go, the USA had a championship streak that lasted well over a century:

Yachting - America's Cup

25 Cups—United States

Streak started 1851 (first race held), beating England

Streak ended 1983 (beaten by Australia II from Australia).

Note: This is the longest winning streak in the sport's history (in years), with 25 successive victories over 152 years.

How about this streak, of the negative variety:

Answer

The longest continuous (over multiple seasons) losing streak in NCAA basketball belongs to California Institute of Technology (Caltech), with 207 continuous losses in Division III play and 245 continuous losses in conference play over 21 years. The conference play streak has not yet ended.

Zippy Chippy.

Zombo

I hesitate to draw any conclusions about how you might know so much about a LOSER, but thanks for the correct info.

Hollywood ends Zippy Chippy's 0-for-100 run

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — Zippy Chippy, who never visited the winner's circle, won't be holding up the rear at county fairs anymore. Hollywood is dangling a carrot, and his owner-trainer is retiring the 0-for-100 horse. "I don't think he will get hurt, but ...," Felix Monserrate said Friday, preferring not to contemplate what could go wrong.

With a possible movie in the works, a producer suggested it might be best to keep the not-so-zippy Zipster off the track, said Monserrate, who declined to elaborate on the deal.

So when the balky brown thoroughbred turns 14 next year he will switch to lighter duties at Finger Lakes Race Track, the home track that banned him in 1998 as a blight on bettors. As an outrider pony, he will escort horses in the post parade and lead them to the gate.

Zippy Chippy fell short of the futility record of 105 losing starts set in the 1950s by Thrust, another gelding. He clocked his 100th straight loss in September, finishing last in an eight-horse field at the Three-County Fairgrounds in Northampton, Mass.

His awful run turned him into something of a celebrity. In 2000, People magazine included him on its list of that year's most interesting personalities.

"I don't care how old he is, he's trying and trying and trying, and those things really made me feel happy," Monserrate said.

Zippy Chippy finished second eight times, third 12 times and earned $30,572, largely paying his own way, said Monserrate, who acquired him in a 1995 trade with his breeder for an old van.

Despite the horse's tendency to bite and kick his keepers, Monserrate and his 15-year-old daughter, Marissa, have become attached to him.

"My daughter can do everything with him," said Monserrate, who lives near the Finger Lakes track in Farmington, 25 miles from Rochester.

Tom Gilcoyne, 88, who retired in January after 15 years as an historian for the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., thinks Zippy Chippy "hasn't done anything to harm the sport. But it's a little bit like looking at the recorded performances of all horse races through the wrong end of the telescope."

Gilcoyne agreed that a movie deal could be dashed if Zippy Chippy had an accident.

"The movie is worth more than extending his record of losses — even if it's a bad movie," he said.

That exact problem is what essentially led to the demise of the AAFC.

Joe Lewis defended and won 25 matches, and won one to get there, so 26 title fights won.

I guess you could look at each match as a season of sorts.

I believe Rocky Marciano had 50 consecutive fights won, retiring undefeated. But I don't know if those were all title fights.

Of course, Joe Louis was known for his "Bum of the Month" Club.
