WPB Dawg Fan
We have been bashing BE quite hard for his drops....and I agree they are a problem. But I have also said that given some time with a QB that will actually connect with him and not hang him out to dry on bad passes...a lot of those dropsies will subside. I found this info on ESPN about targets...it was proving something else...but I find it is useful in seeing what BE has had to deal with as well: Here's how the most targeted wide receivers stack up: Player Team Targets Catches Catch Rate QB Rate to WR Difference Brandon Marshall Den 111 63 57% 62% -5% Andre Johnson Hou 107 71 66% 65% 1% Dwayne Bowe KC 106 55 52% 50% 2% T.J. Houshmandza Cin 102 73 72% 62% 10% Larry Fitzgerald Ari 101 67 66% 71% -5% Roddy White Atl 98 58 59% 59% 0% Reggie Wayne Ind 93 56 60% 60% 0% Wes Welker NE 92 72 78% 69% 9% Calvin Johnson Det 90 45 50% 50% 0% Braylon Edwards Cle 86 35 41% 42% -1% Santana Moss Was 84 49 58% 60% -2% Anquan Boldin Ari 83 62 75% 71% 4% Terrell Owens Dal 82 40 49% 52% -3% Hines Ward Pit 82 53 65% 56% 9% Matt Jones Jac 81 50 62% 59% 3% DeSean Jackson Phi 80 42 53% 56% -3% Antonio Bryant TB 79 50 63% 66% -3% Derrick Mason Bal 79 53 67% 58% 9% Marvin Harrison Ind 77 39 51% 60% -9% Greg Jennings GB 77 48 62% 62% 0% As you can easily see, he has the lowest percentage catches to targets (41%)...but what is interesting is that he is ONLY 1% off the ENTIRE WR CORP for the Browns (42%). What that means is that despite not catching a large portion of passes thrown to him...it is more than likely due to the QB because the SAME RATE applies for the entire WR staff. In fact, if you look at just the home-run hitter WR's you will see that many of them have a lower catch percentage than the remainder of their fellow WR's: Marshall -5%; Fitzgerald -5%; Owens -3%; Jackson -3%; Bryant -3%; Harrison -9% In that light, BE's -1% is downright acceptable. Further, even if he had ZERO drops...his completion rate would only be 55.8% (assuming 13 drops) which would still be behind 14 of the top 20 most targeted WR's. That is really an incredible fact. Even if BE was PERFECT....he would be ranked 15th out of the top 20 most targeted WR's for completion rate!!! I am not trying to give BE an excuse....but let's face it...a WR is TOTALLY DEPENDENT on the QB and his accuracy!!! Also consider that he had 27 catches through 8 games (3.4 per game) with DA...and 9 after 2 games with BQ (4.5)....so much for the comment that BQ would be the death of BE!!! Give this QB/WR combination a couple more weeks and I bet the drops will all but disappear!!!
Pumpkin Eater
Yes, let's look at these stats in two or three weeks to see how much they have improved.
