What did you expect? Everything Holmgren has said as a member of the Browns has been true to this point and he said before FA started we would not be big players.

I think there are some 2nd tier guys who we won't have to break the bank for that will be signed. Not necessarily pro-bowl caliber players but players who can contribute and will sign reasonable contracts.

Personally I would have liked the Browns to have shown some interest in Boldin who the Ratbirds got a good deal on and Rolle who ended up getting overpaid by the Giants. These areas still need addressed - our DB's are terrible except Wright and we desperately need some veteran leadership at WR. Oh ya, a solid RT would be very nice too!

There is still a few good safetys out there i would like the browns to pursuit i.e Gabril Wilson, Will Allen. Even though it is only day 2 i feel the browns dont need to make a splash but they better start skipping rocks across the water or that rock is gonna sink.

yes, mr holmgren and co....

you have failed miserably to overpay for marginal free agents and create any excitement that we as fans expect. you failed to woo the player that are necessary to continue our reputation as a veteran player graveyard.

you should be doing something, even if its wrong. get off your ass and spend some money, even if it doesn't help the team and puts us in cap hell for the next 5 years.

it's not that simple man. As I saw someone else say, this isn't madden. Despite having an excellent front office, we are still a 5-11 team. Look at the draft order. Outside of the lions, who i'll admit did some good things, NONE of the top 10 teams have made a major splash in FA. That's just the nature the beast.

I think the problem here is you and everyone else see threads on here where people talk about potential deals for peppers, marshall or whoever else and it gets our hopes up. We have ALOT of good players coming in over the next couple days. Sure, they aren't a peppers or a rolle, but they are good players who will make our team better, and players we have a good shot at signing. Holmgren knows it would of been a waste of time to even offer any of the top tier guys a deal. Just be patient, and understand that this regime is actually a competent bunch of people.

The last i checked the nfl has no salary cap in place for the next 5 years. It seems to me this would be the year to front load the hell out of free agents and then have them at bargain prices if/when the salary cap comes back into play.

let's see.............do we defensive backfield help? uh, YEAH. rolle from arizona is not a marginal player and he is not an over-the-hill old vet. do you know why teams like the giants are close to winning it all almost every season? because their front office people aren't scared to make a move. and for a 'fan' not be excited by the chance to land any player that might upgrade that position he plays is still asleep. go back to bed. we'll call you after the draft is over then tell us how good we did.

Teams are like Giants are a few key players away from being championship contenders which is a far cry from where we are; That also allows them to throw money on the select few who they know will confidently improve the position and the overall team.

Remember the Raiders throwing money on some star players only to have nothing materialize on the field cos the overall team is not balanced yet ( and AlDavis is still interfering ?)

Good "tongue in cheek" reply & what we see in most of this thread is exactly what I thought would happen....Folks complaining when we don't break the bank in the first 24 hours of free agency by over-spending for players who are on the downside of their careers or who can be clubhouse/team problems. How many of you complainers have lauded the signing of Cribbs? That most likely wouldn't have happened before this regime came in.

We all wanted positive change & I believe we got it. That means a change in the way we do business. Be patient & trust what this new Front Office Team is doing please....We finally have leaders with knowledge & experience. Now it's time for us fans to trust & support them. After all, they know a hell of a lot more than WE do.

i applaud the front office for signing cribbs he's been the only thing exciting about the offense for a couple of years now. i'm not compaining that we're not blowing money and trying to sign any bum on the market. but rolle deserved a look. and imo so did peppers. the bears were as bad as us last year and they stepped up and decided to do something. i also know that we 'build' through the draft. but when does this rebuilding end? we've been getting that since we got the team back. draft rookies and what's it take for them to develop: 3 years? then you want to trade them for a better draft pick. i was hoping to see or hear that these guys are about action, not inaction. i've got my fingers crossed. we've been saying how good these guys are before these guys got here, it's like a freakin broken record.

the last i checked, there's still a year left before a lockout.

you really think established vets will continue to play ball at bargin prices? you're just asking for problems financially, as well as morale and cancer developments, if you use such short sighted tactics.

i'd actually prefer to build a solid team for years to come...not another one hit wonder that deflates our aspirations even more. haven't we suffered enough?

yup...they draft well. then its easy to find vets to plug a few holes.

unfortunately, this strategy doesn't work if more than half the team needs upgraded due to a majority of missed picks and busts...

understand the difference.

I'm 63 years old, so I understand your frustration. We've seen great & AWFUL times, and the word "rebuilding" has become the worst cuss word in Northeast Ohio, but I finally feel good again & think Randy finally made the move (Holmgren) that needed to be made. My main frustration over the years has been that we never had knowledge, experience, & leadership at the top...Now we do. I think, as fans, we may have forgotten how a real GOOD team operates. Obviously it would operate much differently than the Browns have since their return & we need to accept & support those changes. It's not just about free agency either..I'm hearing a lot of rumors regarding trades, etc & it's fun watching everything develop.

Personally, I'm PUMPED!

GO BROWNS!!

o.k. but who made those missed picks and busts....our team mangement. A bunch of guys, who back then, were lauded all the up and down nfl boulevard as being this and that SORTA LIKE WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW WITH THE NEW REGIME. don't get me wrong i like holmgren too and the decision to bring in heckert. but what did holmgren do in seattle? heckert made good decisions in philly but, how many rings does he have as a part of that franchise? so don't break out the champagne yet. BUT low and behold our hall of famer tight end ozzie newsome steps up yesterday and the ratbirds add a franchise wr to their team. someone we could have used. oh, but be patient. xxxx THAT!

Well, Canton Mike, I'm just north of N. Canton from you, apparently... should

should stop up and see our farm sometime.

Sometimes I just wonder, that Rolle surely would be a player of great interest..

however, that doesn't mean the player was interested in a team that was rebuilding for a run.

Some of these free agents with the skills to go anywhere they want ... want to go to a team that

is definately on the climb to the playoffs. That, unfortunately, isn't the Browns. The Browns may have contacted him,

but his agent just politely mentions that his player wants a superbowl ring this coming season....

but, for once, this Browns staff is so creditable, it's really fun to know they will make the right decisions.

Man, you just have to be patient, sit back, and I believe, applaud the moves that they DO make !

Not that we don't have a right to be po'd and impatient..... GGG @@

Whens the last time a team went anywhere by spending so much money on free agents on the 1st day of free agency? Look at most of the good respectable teams, they look within to see what to keep or resign first, then look elsewhere for fill ins if theres anybody out there that wants to join. Unfortunately when your a poor or mediocre team you can only get players by over spending on them; or players that want to be able to start on a team, or players that want to redeem themselves ( like Jamal Lewis ). So its going to take a while chill, everthings going to be alright, I hope.

It's not that I'm frustrated we didn't make a splash the first day, it just seems that we don't have an interest at all in these players. I have rarely seen the Browns' name on the "teams interested" list for any of the FAs, even the supposed 2nd tier players. All we've heard so far is that we're showing interest in Scott Fujita, that's it. At least show interest in some other players, that's all we ask. This inactivity is just frustrating so far.

I trust the way Holmgren operates, but I know that a team full of rookies isn't going to change too many things in Cleveland. Even with the players we have now, we still have very little veteran leadership. We have little to no swagger. Bring in at least one person with some sort of confidence, and it will spread. The only person on our roster that has confidence is Cribbs, and deservedly so. But it seems like the rest of the team is just expecting him to be the game-changer, instead of trying to make game-changing plays themselves. In the last couple of games, Harrsion started giving Cribbs a run for his money, but I don't know if that can carry over to next season. I hope it can, but I'm not expecting anything. I believe bringing in a veteran or two can go a long way in restoring the confidence we've been lacking for so long.

way to stand firm on your position jason. you sound like every big head front office douche we've had since the team was 'reincarnated'. when do you finally say "you know what, i've been 'chillin' for f'in 20 years now. so much so i'm stuck in a flippin' wheel chair!" these guys, who i gotta believe in (cuz that's all we got) are just like politicians. they'll smile and nod for the camera and say everything is alright while the other guys are at home banging your wife. i wish someone in this org HAD AN F'ING SPINE!

i'm not preaching go blow money on people who are over the hill and so forth but if you want to be taken seriously as an organization in a man's game stand up and DO SOMETHING. not sit in the back room and giggle with your new buddies like schnidley whiplash......like you have a plan: yeah, cashing those checks!

Holmgren is not what us browns fans are used to; HE DOES WHAT HE ACTUALLY SAYS: he told us he would redo Cribbs contract he did ( my belief they're #1 priority ), he said they weren't going to make a big splash on free agency ( so far they haven't ), he would talk to Mangini and give him a fair shot instead of doing the popular thing of just letting him go. So its not going as fast as some people want, but when does it ever; and them I hope statement that was a sarcastic joke.

Ow i forgot Holmgren said he would look into the qb situation ( what I think is there #2 priority ), hes looking at our guys and at: Kolb, Wallace, and Carr. He said free agents are coming to visit and they are; Fuijita and 2 others that I don't know that the names are for today.
