THE BROWNS BOARD

How can one be a fan of both

Ballpeen you were right when you said it is completely different in college then in pro. What do you gain by a team being good in your division in pro football? Absolutely nothing. For that reason it doesn't make sense to root for teams for in your division just because they play in your division. In college the money from the bowl games gets divided between the schools in the conference so it makes sense to root for them during the season to get a better bowl, and during bowl games as it makes your conference look better. I root for Michigan every week because I want the S.O.S. and i want to ruin their season like they have ruined ours so many time. However I am also happy if when they lose (see App State).

Ok before I start in on this next little rant let me say the SEC is by far the best conference in college football, but it goes in cycles and they will be down and Big 12 Big 10 Pac 10 will be at the top again. Then they will fall off and another conference will be up there. Sorry I know that you understand how a cycle works.

I hate the fact that SEC fans chant SEC SEC blah blah. It just a way for schools to take credit for a championship that their team was not involved in. It doesn't matter that your team is in that conference. You can root for that team because they are in your conference but rooting for the conference as a whole is just a way of taking credit for another team's work. That's like my beloved Buckeyes play in the NCAA so I just chant NCAA NCAA and one of "my" teams wins the championship every year (just trying to make a point).

I know you will probably dispute everything I have said but that's the fun of these message boards

SEC SEC just rolls right off the tongue though. NCAA NCAA or BIG 10 BIG 10 just doesn't have the same effect.

Not going to dispute.

As I said earlier, it is simply for my psychological well being.

If my team loses a bunch of in division games against teams that drive deep in to the playoffs or win the SB, it makes be feel better about the losses. IMO it makes us look a bit better than the record indicates.

I also said much of it stems from my love for college football.

And for the record, it isn't so much root for them or be a fan of them....I am a fan of the Browns. It's simply a matter of pulling for them in the playoffs.

Look pal, I went easy on you. Did I start with any name calling? No! I politely stated my opinion , while others continue to rip you to shreds. Sounds to me like you're just another front runner!

yep i just been front runner since 1956 rooting for Steelers and Browns...........and you are just brilliant telling me I cannot be what I am and a frontriunner for mor than fifty year......maybe thinking and an apology would work for you........or do you have reading comprehension deficit or living in lala.........any solution will work

I don't hate the guy. I don't like that right off the bat he insulted me just because I feel you can't be a fan of both the Browns and the Steelers. It just doesn't make sense to me. It was an opinion, and it wasn't meant as an insult to Rich, which is what I am sure that he is used to here. I can see why you would root for the Steelers to help the Browns, and I suppose that I would probably do the same. OK I'll agree... hate is a strong word, so I'll say I STRONGLY DISLIKE the Steelers.

I insutled you????????? now that is funny........by stating what I AM........and you said I can't be what I am. Are you really that informed to tell me I cannot be what I am. Are you a better fan that you are insulted because I made a case I am what what I am.........YOU should just APOLOGIZE....to me....it is what it is live with it

Ballpeen, thanks for your august defense of being rational and objective............sometimes when small minds wander......thinking big becomes too hard......hence the stupidity in hating arch rivals...........I learned as a youngster in the heat of the battle.....BEATING the ARCH RIVAL was number one...........

and loving him the rest of the time was number two.............some folks elevator never gets that high.............

Ballpeen got it...........as did a few others. People are what they and root who they root for. The saddest part of this thread which is superb is typical American Arrogance which states one cannot be what they are....you a muslim you be evil you a socialist you be evil you a communist you be evil you a buddhist you be evil you a union workder you be evil.............which is why our nation is in such a big mess

woman cannot decide on their body

people cannot chose the wrong religion

people cannot be against wars

people cannot allow the poor to benefit

people cannot let the weak have health care

poeple must hate socialists and communists.........even though they are kicking our ass

and we can bomb the hell outta anyone we wish....................BECAUSE THE REST OF THE WORLD IS THE HATED RIVAL

that sums up why I cannot root for the both the Steelers and Browns in small minds

what you learned as a youngster was to be an asshole., because only an asshole could be a fan of both. If they both have a down year next year chances are you'll suddenly be a fan of whatever team does win the AFC north. Why don't you go hang out on the Ravens board and Bengals board just in case. Asshole.

You insulted me by calling me a mental midget! I simply don't feel that you can be a fan of both teams. That's like being a fan of both Ohio State, and Michigan, or being a fan of your high school, and your rival high school. Personally I don't give a s*** who you root for! I was just responding to this thread with my opinion that I don't feel that one can be a fan of both, so I don't understand why that would be insulting to you?

So, you don't think history counts for anything when discussing this sort of subject? If I recall, OSU/Mich. have met about three times this past decade when they were both in the Top 5 nationally. Once when they were #1 and #2. It hasn't happened in the last 3-4 years since Michigan's downturn, but every rivalry has its ups and downs. There certainly are other good rivalries, but none with the sustained excellece of this one.

Oklahoma/Texas probably comes the closest.

Though Duke/North Carolina in basketball might even surpass that one.

Yankees/Red Sox? Only if you count the last 6-8 years. The Red Sox were pretty much garbage for the prior 80 years.

Cowboys/Redskins? More of a media creation.

Celtics/Lakers? Is there really a rivalry between these two team? Or is simply a coincidence that they both keep showing up in the Finals against each other.

That would be like saying there is a big rivalry between the Browns and Broncos. There isn't. There is just some history in the postseason involved.

I guess we all cannot be a perverse as you peen on this matter. Yea, to me, to root for the Ravens or the Steelers to do well in the playoffs because if they win it makes the Browns seem to look better is perverse. Bestial in fact.

Sure it does.

I think you take it too seriously when someone disagrees with you. Especially on subjective matters such as this...

I will say the OSU/Mich rivalry is as solid as any.

How's that??

I mean, hey, you know if you got rich4eagle supporting your viewpoint, you got to come to the realization that that viewpoint is perverted, right? I mean, you both might need to try a trip to the couch:

Hey, how many of these other rivalries have actually had war threatened between them?:

I think being a fan is a personal thing like religion. It is personal , with emotions varying from each and every fan . There is no meter devised to measure each ones faith in their team, nor is there the ability to determine the strength or authenticity of another mans faith or fanhood . A fan is a fan and he does it his own way . Why fight it ?

I was aware of that....there have been a few other 'wars' over state boundaries....Virgina and Maryland had the "Oyster" war, and Missouri and Iowa had a threatened war in the mid 1830's.

Shoot....a year or so back Georgia was claiming the state line with Tennessee was marked wrong(and it probably was, but it was their their surveyor who set the mark short) and said they were going to claim the nearly 1 mile error.

This was mostly a move to gain access to the Tennessee River to ease the water crisis in Atlanta. War was never declared, but I can very honestly say there would have been more than a few Volunteers waiting with guns had Georgia came to move the boundary signs.

Georgia never did anything knowing the laws were clearly in Tennessee's favor regarding moving an existing, establish border.

I say, let them go at it. Here is my suggestion for a non-violent, sort of, solution. You get a huge rope and have a tug of war contest. Get 100 of the strongest guys from each state. Then have the tug of war across the Tennessee River. The state that first pulls the other states team into the river wins. If Tenn. wins they get to keep the river. If Georgia wins, they get access to the river. Fair way to handle it?

And I'm telling YOU that in my opinion it doesn't make sense! How can you claim to be a Browns fan, AND a Steelers fan???? That is all I asked! Like I said, to each his own. I didn't insult you or call you names like others have here. I simply asked, because I find it odd. Maybe I sholuld have approached it a different way, because I can see this obviously strikes a nerve with you. You probably take a lot of s*** from others on this board as well as other Browns fans. I'm not here to make enemies, and I'm pretty open minded, and easy to get along with. All you had to do was say "hey I'm a fan of both, because...."

Stick around, you'll learn. See D.J., you don't suck his t'aint(I woulda said balls but it's clear "he" has none) or defend him? THIS is the shit you get in return. Always and forever. There is absolutely ZERO chance any other approach would have 'netted a different result. None. So, just get used to it man. "Steeler fan huge" has you on his crayon scribbled shitlist now.

That was quite funny! :D But really, I just wanted to know how one could be a fan of both the Browns and the Steelers. I could never bring myself to root for a rival team as well as my team. It really wasn't meant to cut him down, or insult him. I know you guys are pretty hard on him here.

You lost all credibility with that statement! The cities, the sports teams, and the people could not be more diametrically opposed (that means drastically different for you Browns fans)

They are opposed because they are in fact exactly the same. Just like a couple of teenage girls who tell each other what bitches the other one is....though in fact they are both cut from the same cloth. I guess you gotta have a teenage daughter to relate. Just like these two:

Nice try gip but..............NO! There is nothing alike about them. One is a beautiful city the other is a shithole, one is a city filled with good solid down to earth people the other is a city filled with bitter little people, one has perennially winning high class sports organizations, the other has perennial losing sports teams and embarrassing organizations.

You could say that fresh caviar and rotted, moldy, caviar are both alike because they are both caviar but I think most would readily see the difference.

Now that had to be dumbest most ignorant post I have ever viewed

I love those fine upstanding citizens of the 'Burg, they sure respect those Steelers   Casey Hampton's Home Robbed. Well Stone, the Steelers are overdue for a down year- and this would be it, if you're going to be 1\2 objective. Colon out for the year, Whines Hard is the only WR you have worth a damn, and besides him, there's plenty of guys on your D that have a lot of miles on them. Leftwitch and Batch are one hit away from IR. Now as to rank organizations, care to comment about the Pirates? Last time I bothered to look they were sucking worse than the Indians, and that's damn hard to do.

Oh and furthermore, is classy defined by one of your fans running down a Browns fan in their car after that playoff game? Or, is your definition of classy defined by the way your fans act in other NFL stadiums? Why is it that when the Steelers come to your town there are the most fights and BS? Hmmm, keep staying classy their Pittspuke!!!
