Game Notes vs. Jacksonville

Here's my weekly game notes. Add or criticize.

POSITIVES:

-Defense looked like a spitting image of the Raven defense of the early 2000's. TJ Ward=Ed Reed. Elam actually had a great game. Sheldon Brown was solid.

-Eric Wright got hurt.

-Evan Moore is always on the positives. Great route running and catches! Good job from practice squad.

-Colt McCoy was accurate for the most part and that TD pass to Hillis was amazing.

-MoMass's catch that was tipped shows how great of a #2 he is gonna be. Great awareness.

NEGATIVES:

-Offensive Line had one of the worst games I've seen out of that unit. Thomas and Steinbeck look confused most of the time and Lauvao with the penalties killed us.

-No pass rush still. And when we do get to the QB, we can't get the sack. Someone needs to tell our D-Line to stop rubbing KY Jelly on themselves before going out on the field.

-Ben Watson didn't have a good game. Did not run the correct routes and dropped a few passes.

-Our 2 minute offense looked terrible today. Terrible time management and not enough hustle.

-Offense in the 2nd half was dead, mostly due to the conservative play calling. RUN, RUN, PASS, PUNT was our 2nd half game plan. This and only this killed us, especially when we were +5 in turnovers. Really?

-Stucky had a bad game and doesn't know how to get out of bounds.

-When will Robiskie get benched? I mean seriously he just is out there to be out there and he offers us absolutely no production. Put in Mitchell. If I was Mitchell id be fuming.

-And finally, I almost died on the way to watch the game at my Dad's. Some asshole chick on her cell phone tried turning into my lane when i was clearly parrallel with her. Bitch.

Funny thing is, linemen do rub KY on themselves before the game. I've done it many times. Crisco actually works better.

I think our 2 minute offense was fantastic, but the lack of hustle did kill us. We moved down the field in under a minute, and it took 3 passes to do so. But the clock kept ticking, ticking, ticking, while we were trying to set up. After MoMass's catch on the sideline, it showed him walking to the line without a care in the world. That's something that will be worked out of him in practice, though.

I still hate everything Chansi Stuckey represents. And Robo needs to be gone yesterday.

All in all, this game was perfect. It showcased our lack of a playmaking WR, and our lack of a playcalling OC. Robo and Daboll should take the same bus out of Cleveland.

We really need a serious deep threat. I agree the 2 minute offense was good. When you leave the defense to do all the work, this is the outcome. I think the opponents know Hillis is going to run the ball. We need another, so Hillis can rest every once in awhile. IMO we have some better players that aren't getting into the game scheme.

Yeah i didnt mean the production was awful I just mainly meant the time management was crappy.

This looked very similar to our first 3 games. We had the lead going into the 4th quarter but left our defense on the field too much and they eventually wore down. Our offensive line fell apart against a team with not much run defense. Good game for our defense for the most part. They really got after the ball and took it away 6 times. Our offense just could not capatalize. The pass to Watson at the end was a bad decision. Even if he caught it he would have been short and time would have run out.

He was already in his position while everyone was getting in position, it wasn't a lack of hustle.

what sprint 3 yards?

credits, where due- Jaguars were able to make the most of the second leash of life we gave them and came back from behind to win the game. MJD is amazing. Their giant tight end made Ventrone seem like a lilliputtan tackling Gulliver.

Still don't understand why Ventrone or Eric King were in the game so much.

I totally agree with you Sound. Daboll has shown he can turn it loose. I think he's afraid to lose, so he goes conservative or he's got "eat the clock" syndrome. He's on the bubble with me. Three good games doth not make a Offensive Coordinator make.

My bet is that Mangini was the one responsible for the conservative play calling. I don't get the feeling he has much confidence in McCoy despite some of the things he has said. I suspect he wanted to keep it conservative. Daboll just acts too excited when McCoy has done something good so I am inclined to think he'd open it up more.

That may have been the case. I didn't actually stop to think about the actual distance the throw covered. It seemed a lot shorter when I replayed it in my mind.

When you lose a game that you won the turnover margin by 6 (not counting the INT at the end of the game) you have to decide to look at a three-and-out as worse than a turnover.

Come on man....Colt didn't play that well.

Let's call it like it is.

He did not. And it was about time he played like a rookie.

But he also didn't play bad enough for us to lose with a plus six differential.

This loss doesn't fall on just one thing. But the playcalling is the thing that I can't live with.

Here's what I saw: when the pressure came down, Colt needed to step up in the pocket more, rather than try and rollout.

Every QB deals with pressure differently; the Jags knew that Colt was going to deal with pressure by trying to escape. McCoy needs to be able to step up and deliver a short to intermediate strike when the pressure comes on his sides or behind. He's not done an awful job at that overall, but today it was apparent. When a defense gets greedy and tries to pin their ears pack, you need to make a quick slant or some kind of screen. The Jags figured out how to keep him and Hillis contained and the only way to win was to deliver strikes from within the pocket. We couldn't do that.

Speculation.

Colt WAS NOT that accurate today. He underthrew MoMass. He was behind guys on the slants and he didn't look poised under the rush. There is no bigger Colt fan than me (both my kids wore his jersey on our Xmas card last year) but he was simply not good enough today.

After he was hurt he did not have the speed to avoid those sacks too.
