More Good News UPDATE: Ankle sprain confirmed

I said it in the tavern during the game...I'd bet a lot of money that McCoy doesn't play next week. He was in a lot of pain. What I loved is that Rich Gannon (the moron) finally noticed he was limping near the end of the game and it was reported on twitter by several sources about an hour earlier that the trainers were working on McCoy's ankle and that Wallace was warming up.

Colt McCoy, the rookie third-string starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, injured his left ankle during the loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

McCoy, 24, played through the pain and on the last drive, tried to get his team downfield to score a touchdown that would put the Browns (3-7) ahead of the Jaguars (6-4).

On a scramble play, McCoy ran to the sidelines and was noticeably limping at the end of the play. On the Brown’s final play, McCoy’s pass was intercepted as he attempted to throw a touchdown strike to tight end Benjamin Watson.

According to the Associated Press, McCoy left Jacksonville wearing a walking boot to support his ankle.

“I wasn’t going to come out of the game,” McCoy said, according to the Browns website. “We evaluated it. It hurt, but it wasn’t something I was going to have to pull myself out of the game because of. I felt like I still could do the things I needed to do. It was sore; it was bothering me, but I needed to be out there.”

The rookie quarterback was sacked six times during the game.

Despite the final-seconds interception, his teammates said they respect him even more for playing through the pain.

“He was in there still leading, still trying to do everything that he could,” Browns wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi said, according to the Browns website. “It’s amazing how he stuck it out and played as well as he did.”

On the other end, the Jaguars were able to follow running back Maurice Jones-Drew’s stellar performance to just edge out the win against the upstart Browns, who beat the New Orleans Saints and the New England Patriots in their previous two games.

Jones-Drew accounted for 220 total offensive yards, rushing for 133 on 23 carries, and received 87 more.

I heard he may have to miss a game or two......any truth to this?

I hope not, but do you maybe shut him down for the rest of the season if he needs to miss 2 or 3 more games? He would only come back for 4 games top. Have we seen enough of him to call him the future, or do we need to evaluate him more in the last few games of the season? Either way I think we will draft DL, LB, or WR in rd 1, and prolly a QB late or a free agent if we think Colt is the guy. If not I think we may go with a mid-rounder.

I hate the Browns just like you guys hate the Steelers, but I'm rooting for this kid and the Browns to turn it around. You guys look like a real team these days and losing this kid would suck for the Browns. I want this kid to be good so I can hate him with every beat of my heart.

Those four games are going to be great learning tools if we can keep playing him.

He said in the post game that the Jags gave him post snap reads instead of pre snap. That kind of thing will teach him a ton. The more he sees, the better for us in the long run.

He also said that post snap reads require the receivers to adjust their routes as well. At Texas, Colt could see a route adjustment that Shipley or Quan Cosby could possibly make to get open, and trust them to take it. Post snap reads aren't all about the QB, though the QB has the biggest role... you also need your receivers to adjust on the fly.

Which is what I guess Massaquoi didnt do when Colt threw it deep and he ran the comeback.

Ankle sprain confirmed!

BEREA, Ohio (AP) -- Browns rookie quarterback Colt McCoy is undergoing further tests on his sprained left ankle, the third Cleveland quarterback to suffer that injury this season.

Coach Eric Mangini confirmed McCoy sprained his ankle in Sunday's loss at Jacksonville, but was unclear about the extent of the injury. Mangini will wait to see if McCoy can practice on Wednesday before naming a starter for Sunday's home game against Carolina.

McCoy was in a walking boot following Sunday's loss in Jacksonville. He was not available to reporters on Monday.

The Browns have had a rash of ankle sprains to their quarterbacks. Both Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace suffered high ankle sprains and missed extended time. Mangini said Delhomme "is back to 100 percent."

If I find out I'm paying for two airfares, a Hollywood Beach hotel, and tickets to the Dolphins game to see Jake Freaking Delhomme, I'm... well, I'll laugh, actually. And figure I was a Hun in a previous life.

When you are in Miami, go to a place called David's Cafe. I an from South Florida and I eat there everytime I am in the area. By far the best lunch spot in the city.

I have to say, the statistical likelihood of all these ankle sprains, combined with the fact that supposedly they don't show up on an MRI, combined with the fact that they keep the QBs quiet after the injuries makes me wonder if the doctor isn't told to be "on the safe side" during the examination.

The way dabs and mangini work in their skittishness and paranoia inflated minds colt just lost his chance of continuing on the job development and or developing trust with these guys, rather colt is able to play or not jake/seneca will start and at the end of the year mangini's rein as HC may depend on how well they do..

Mangini like romeo always says he puts on the field the guys that give us the best chance to win, yet i often keep seeing our best chances to win sitting on the bench waiting for a chance to contribute or in moores case contribute more in the place of the unbelievably unproductive slowbiskie...

The silver lining in Colt hitting the sidelines for a while will be he will learn.

Before he played, his experience on the sidelines was just standing around and listening. Now that he has played, he will see things totally differently. He will also be able to rally the troops. before, a untested rookie couldn't go up to teammates and talk about what happend and how it might be corrected. Now he can.

Before he couldn't say much to the coaching staff. Now he can.

Colt being out for a while could actually be a very good thing, for both him and the team.
