THE BROWNS BOARD

Survey Monday 11/29

The Gipper

Recommended Posts

Here are this weeks survey questions (after missing a couple of weeks). Please give your opinions:

1. From 1-10 at this stage a year ago and finishing 5-11 to 4-7 now this year: What do you think the Browns final record will end up as?

2. Per the Jeff Sagarin ratings, my alma mater: Akron Univ. is ranked the very worst team in the FBS level of college football....YET, The University of Akron is rated the #1 team in the land in College Futbol, i.e. Soccer. And this leaves me conflicted. What should I do? Shoot myself over the performance of the football team? Become a soccer fan and learn to sing "Ole, ole, ole, ole". Get drunk over it? or what? Any and all suggestions are welcome.

3. Your Christmas tree ....(or, Hannukah Bush?) Real? or Fake? and why? (and do they really have Hannukah bushes...and if so what are they made of?)

4. Speaking of the Sagarin rankings, the 4 teams of the NFC West are ranked there as follows: Rams 27th, Seahawks 28th, Cardinals 29th, and 49ers 31st. None of them have a winning record....and it is certainly possible that none of them will have a winning record when the season ends. Yet one of them will be in the playoffs.

Should the NFL make a rule that a team should have at least a .500 record to be in the playoffs and if a division doesn't have at least a .500 team then their playoff slot is forfeited and awarded to a 3rd Wildcard instead?

5. Have you seen Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1? If so, what do you think?

The optimist in me says 8-8, the realist says 7-9

Start learning to like Soccer- it's the world sport.

3. Your Christmas tree ....(or, Hannukah Bush?) Real? or Fake? and why? (and do they really have Hannukah bushes...and if so what are they made of?)

Fake- too old an lazy to go out and buy a new one every year, & no mess when you take it down.

Absolutely.

5. Have you seen Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1? If so, what do you think?

Yes, and they couldn't have left it hanging any worse if they had tried. Not looking good for Harry right now. If you've watched the others and enjoyed them, you'll like this installment too.

1. From 1-10 at this stage a year ago and finishing 5-11 to 4-7 now this year: What do you think the Browns final record will end up as?

Browns have left the Dolphins who are playing well; Bills who despite their record are nobody's pushover; Bengals who suck, but they are a big rival, and the Steelers and Ravens. I am hoping for a 3-2 record the rest of the way. I think they will bite one of those last 2 in the ass, but they might get bitten themselves by either the Bills of Bangles.

2. Per the Jeff Sagarin ratings, my alma mater: Akron Univ. is ranked the very worst team in the FBS level of college football....YET, The University of Akron is rated the #1 team in the land in College Futbol, i.e. Soccer. If I never here "ole, ole, ole" again it will be none too soon. But it is probably best to say about the football team "too bad, get them next year", and about the soccer team "hope you win the title. It would be nice to win a national title in something...even soccer", and as for getting wasted...what the hell, its the holidays, right? Though, any other suggestions are still welcome

3. Your Christmas tree ....(or, Hannukah Bush?) Real? or Fake? and why? (and do they really have Hannukah bushes...and if so what are they made of?)

We went with the real ones when the kids were young and Santa Claus was coming to town, but now that one is in college and one a junior in HS, we no longer go to the trouble and expense of a real one. Plus, we are out of town at least half the time to in-laws for Xmas so we just do a fake tree. No issues with cleanup and fire hazard.

4. Speaking of the Sagarin rankings, the 4 teams of the NFC West are ranked there as follows: Rams 27th, Seahawks 28th, Cardinals 29th, and 49ers 31st. I agree that it would probably a once in a generation at most anamoly to have a losing team make the playoffs. Plus, with the round robin still to go in that division I suspect someone will still emerge with at least a .500 record.

5. Have you seen Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1? If so, what do you think?

Yes, I have seen it. I always like Harry and they always do a great job. And it has long, long been past the point that it was to be considered a "kids story". Of course, having read the book I know what happens, but that doesn't make it any less entertaining.

1. 6-10

2. When your favorite team is losing, don't you need to be "comforted" by the woman in your life? Hmmm? I never enjoyed soccer myself. Maybe someday I'll have grandchildren who play and I'll learn to love the game but so far no good.

3. Even though I own the world's easiest to adjust tree stand, eliminating the inevitable disputes over whether or not the tree is straight, I am the proud owner of a convenient and lovely artificial tree.

4. If you win your division, you should be in the playoffs. The experience is good for teams on the rise and fun for the fans. It also gives the underdogs a chance to rise above their history and win it all.

5. I'm planning to see it tomorrow. I'll let you know. :)

Dude ... it's Harry freaking Potter ... how on earth is that not a kids movie?

Ask anyone who has seen the last several. It really is not a kids movie.

I make it a rule not see movies with "wizards" or "hobbits" or where kids fly around in the air.

I saw the "Expendables" the other night ... the acting and plot was gawd awful but I got to see the bad guys blown into pieces, which is lot more fun for me than watching a movie where some gay little wizard kid flies around and if you look close you can see a half naked Hermaphodite or whatever.

I'm just not into the whole fantasy genre I guess. Only saw the first Star Wars, never saw a Star Trek or a "Lord of the Rings", never stood in line wearing Spock ears or round glasses and a broom. It's all gay to me ... not that there's anything wrong with it.

Well, there you go. Yes, Harry Potter is a "fantasy genre" movie, but it is not a kid's movie. I mean though, if you are not into fantasy or science fiction, what kind of movies do you like? Chick Flicks? Most science fiction/fantasy movies are simply action films set in an alternative setting. Most action films I have seen lately have less to do with reality than do the science fiction films I have seen.....like you said "The Expendables". I mean, some of these action films have inert objects, like brick walls, spontaneously burst into flames. What is realistic about that?

They no longer show "Murder mystery/thrillers" in the movies. When is the last time one of those came on? Seven?

Hoping for 9-7, but probably 7-9 or 6-10

2. Real, I'm not into the artificial trees

No, if you win your division, you're in the playoffs. This is an aberration, kind of a fluke.

5. Have you seen Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1? If so, what do you think?

Haven't seen it

I went to the first Harry Potter with a kid, considered suicide, and literally strolled the lobby looking at movie posters instead of enduring any more of the 90 minute first act. I think I might lack whimsy. Or something. I'm with Zombo: Not likely to see movies with hobbits or wizards.

I think by losing their last two games prior to edging the Panthers... and losing McCoy for some amount of time... the Browns would be pretty lucky to end up 7-9. After three straight road games including a tough one at Miami, we host the Steelers and Ravens, each who will need a win to edge out the other. 2-3 wouldn't be a bad close at all and that would put us at 6-10.

I'm sick of losing but I also realize this isn't the year that begins our big winning window... so in the big picture, drafting high enough to get A.J. Green is better than winning one extra game.

Well, Zombo, if it is any consolation to you there is what you could say a "semi-nude" scene with Harry and Hermione in this one.

Harry and Hermione? What did Ron and Ginny have to say about that?

I've got to agree that it's not just a series for kids. I know many adults male and female who are fans.

1. From 1-10 at this stage a year ago and finishing 5-11 to 4-7 now this year: What do you think the Browns final record will end up as?

8-8. Read sig.

You should become a Kent State fan.

3. Your Christmas tree ....(or, Hannukah Bush?) Real? or Fake? and why? (and do they really have Hannukah bushes...and if so what are they made of?)

No they don't have Hunnukah bush's (raised Jewish). I have nothing this year for my apartment is not big enough to have a tree.

No. If you make it to the playoffs in the current system, then so be it. Don't change it.

5. Have you seen Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1? If so, what do you think?

Not yet i am waiting for my girlfriend to get some free time so we can go.

Geez, Shep. Can't let you get by with this one. You took a kid to see Harry Potter and left him/her sitting alone? You didn't like the kid very much, eh? I can't imagine any kid-appropriate movie I couldn't sit through just for the child. You ARE a grownup aren't you?

So, then, was the Hannukah bush just something that Adam Sandler made up?

CHappy CHannukah

Yes that would be correct. My mom who was dating at the time and is now married to my stepdad who is an Atheist. However, his whole family is Christian so we still celebrated both Christmas and Hunnakuh. We always had a Manorah but when I turned 10 my Mom really wanted a Christmas tree, but she didnt want to live with the guilt (its a Jewish thing). So we got a tree and put blue and white lights around it with the Star of David at the top and called it a Hannukah Bush. So I guess they exist if you want to look over the fact of my mothers rational Christmas Tree.

I agree man.

I fell asleep 40 minutes in to the first Star Wars movie and never saw another.....even sooner for the Lord of the Rings....that was total crap IMO.

I just don't get in to that stuff....it's a waste of my money.

1. From 1-10 at this stage a year ago and finishing 5-11 to 4-7 now this year: What do you think the Browns final record will end up as?

I am going to say 7-9

As much as I loved soccer as a kid, I don't find it that interesting to watch as a grown up. It's more fun to play than watch. Take your alma mater's success with class and show some support even though it doesn't win many "man points". Soccer crowds are at least good for beer drinking and picking up a hot Brazilian chick.

3. Your Christmas tree ....(or, Hannukah Bush?) Real? or Fake? and why? (and do they really have Hannukah bushes...and if so what are they made of?)

Always real. The Mrs. won't have it any other way. It always smells nice but is a pain in the ass to transport and clean up.

4. Speaking of the Sagarin rankings, the 4 teams of the NFC West are ranked there as follows: Rams 27th, Seahawks 28th, Cardinals 29th, and 49ers 31st. Absolutely. A third wild-card in this sort of situation is worth it.

5. Have you seen Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1? If so, what do you think?

We took our son and his friends for his twelfth birthday. That's the perfect age for that sort of thing. A little scary for my nine year old. My only complaint is that it was a bit long. There are fewer interactions between the main three and other kids in this movie (all the older movies were based around school so there were usually other kids around) and therefore this one feels a little more grown up. It didn't seem quite as "fun" as the previous ones. Obviously, there were a lot of effects.

1. From 1-10 at this stage a year ago and finishing 5-11 to 4-7 now this year: What do you think the Browns final record will end up as?

Sorry... 5-11, Bungles or Bills...won't be both...unless Delhomme gets hurt , then 7-9

2. Anytime your alma mater has a shot at national championship in any sport you should proudly and openly root for them...anytime they suck in

football,as bad as the Zips do,you should deny ever going there :P

3. Your Christmas tree ....(or, Hannukah Bush?) Real? or Fake? and why? (and do they really have Hannukah bushes...and if so what are they made of?)

We prefer to refer to it as "artificial"

Ask yourself this...If the Browns could win their division with a losing record (Oh boy Sqeeler fans will have field day with this) would you want to see them in the playoffs? = Of course

5. Have you seen Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1? If so, what do you think?

No,but I saw "The Simpson's The Movie " 4 times

Y'know, there are a lot of things I don't like. I don't like horror movies, for example. But I don't belittle the people who DO like them by calling those movies "crap." If Harry Potter or fantasy/sci fi aren't your taste that's perfectly understandable but in my opinion it's classless to pinch your nose and hurl insults at something others enjoy just because it's not your cup of tea. Why isn't it sufficient to say something like, "Not my type of movie?"

It was great! I see the Weasley's house was magically restored. I thought it was true to the essence of the book and stopped at a good spot. Definitely not for the very young.

They should absolutely be in the playoffs. I think when all said and done, the NFL should re-seed the teams so a team with a losing record doesn't get a home game. It's ridiculous that a team is 9-7, wins a division and hosts an 11-5 wildcard.

5. Have you seen Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1? If so, what do you think?

Nope
