TheClevelandSound
I've heard of this guys but don't know much about him. From Adam Schefter twitter: "Browns claimed former Bucs S Sabby Piscatelli on waivers today. Thoughts? VIDEO: PLAYER PROFILE: http://www.nfl.com/players/sabbypiscitelli...le?id=PIS575019 http://www.footballnewsnow.com/2010/buccan...y-roster-moves/ Safety Cody Grimm and guard Davin Joseph were sent to injured reserve after Sundays loss to the Baltimore Ravens, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are still making moves. Most notably, they have cut ties with safety Sabby Piscitelli. Piscitelli, rumored to be in line for a starting position with Grimm done for the year, was a second-round draft pick in 2007 and never lived up to expectations. In relief of Grimm against the Ravens, Piscitelli bit on a play action fake that allowed tight end Todd Heap to slip through the secondary for a 65-yard touchdown, and Raheem Morris had seen enough. The Buccaneers also sent defensive end Kyle Moore to IR and promoted safety Vince Anderson, wide receiver Dezmon Briscoe and guard Brandon Carter to the active roster from the practice squad. In Piscitelli’s place, they signed safety Larry Asante from the Cleveland Browns practice squad. Asante will compete with Anderson Corey Lynch for the starting position, and it’s been speculated that Ronde Barber could also get some looks at safety. The Buccaneers host the Atlanta Falcons in one of the biggest games of the season Sunday at 4:15 p.m. EDT, and it remains to be seen who will start at safety. miktoxic
i like the fact that our FO is still making moves and they understand (like the rest of us) that our defensive backfield still needs a lot of work............ just don't know if this guy is the answer. miktoxic
He can't be worse than Elam haha. He had a few good seasons but haven't heard much this year. elam has been 'alright' the last couple of games but when he misses it's a disastrous huge whiff and usually ends up in points for the other team. which sounds a lot like pisitelli. i feel like the only way we'll get solid in that position is through the draft. BUT hey, what happens if there's a lockout, do they still have the draft?

TheClevelandSound
I know some Bucs fans liked him, but they are not the most knowledge sorts. He is more experienced and drafted much higher than Asante, so I'm hoping he finds a home with us. Zombo I'm gonna quote you on that if he gives up a TD in Miami. shepwrite
Elam's been more than alright the past couple games... he's been very good. He's been playing in the box more as our coverage improves (meaning, Haden in for Wright) and making plays all over the place. If we let him go, he'll be picked up as a starter on a better team, like Brodney Pool. No sense in doing that.
pikeyM27
There were quite a few safeties drafted that year before Bucs picked Sabby. He was 7th. Bucs gambled and lost. Analysts were saying that he can become the next Urlacher, but apparently he never put on any muscle or got faster. Browns FO probably got him as a project, so don't expect any changes. If they can't figure out what to do with him he'll be released....again.

I agree. It is the point in the season where you are beginning to know who you aren't bringing back next and need to start working the waiver wire/FA list looking for the upgrade. Building the team through the draft gets all the fanfare, but building the bottom of the roster is just as important as building the top. We saw that earlier when we brought Trautwein back to the PS. Give him a few weeks there to get caught up and I expect to see him on the active roster the last 2-3 games and given some reps to see if he can become a viable replacement for one of the guys we have been playing at RT this year, be it starter or back-up. If you make that 53rd man better, you just improved the team by any measure. No matter how good you are, you always have a last man on the team. If you can replace him with someone better, you have improved.
Alo
Every Bucs fan I know HATES this guy. He's got a reputation for being pretty bad in coverage and lost his job to Cody Grimm, a rookie making the transition from linebacker to safety. The Bucs cut Sabby and claimed Asante. Clearly, they thought our PS guy was better.
TheClevelandSound
SINCE I DONT WANT TO MAKE MY 4TH THREAD IN A ROW ILL JUST POST THIS HERE: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d81c8...le=HP_headlines CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers safety Sherrod Martin has gone from being featured in an NFL video on illegal hits to paying a hefty price for the league's crackdown on blows to the head. Martin said Wednesday that the NFL fined him $40,000 for a helmet-to-helmet hit on tight end Evan Moore during Sunday's loss to the Cleveland Browns, with the hefty penalty coming in part because he's a repeat offender. Martin has been on the NFL's radar since Week 1, when he was docked $5,000 for a hit that gave New York Giants tight end Kevin Boss a concussion. The play was the first example in a video sent to teams as the league later announced increased penalties for dangerous hits. Now Martin will pay the price for his fourth infraction and ensuing fine for unnecessary roughness in his two-year career. With a base salary of $395,000, the latest fine will cost the 2009 second-round draft pick from Troy nearly two game checks. Martin declined to comment Wednesday while his teammates expressed dismay at the size of the penalty. Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson and Tennessee Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan were fined $25,000 each for a wild, helmet-less fight in Sunday's game. "The man hands them down, and we've got to pay them," cornerback Richard Marshall said. Coach John Fox shook his head in the locker room as he heard about the fine. Several teammates said Martin had no other choice than to hit Moore high as the tight end came across the middle on a play near the end zone. "When you start tackling lower, they're going to come up with a rule like that," cornerback Captain Munnerlyn said. "I'm really kind of lost in this situation." The fine was a hot topic in the locker room of the woeful Panthers (1-10), with many defensive players vowing they won't change their style of play despite the numerous hefty fines. "If you're thinking about the fine, you're not going to be playing hard. You're going to slow up on some tackles," Munnerlyn said. "That means you've got to keep playing hard, and if the fines come, they're going to come."

CLEVELandMILIDH
Browns sign Coye Francies to practice squad The National Football Post The Cleveland Browns have signed cornerback Coye Francies(notes) to the practice squad. Francies is a 2009 Browns sixth-round draft pick who played this season in the United Football League with the Las Vegas Locomotives. He played collegiately at San Jose State after transferring from Oregon State, where he was thrown off the team in 2007 after a gun registered to him was found during a routine traffic stop. At San Jose State, Francies was named second-team All-Western Athletic Conference as he recorded 69 tackles, three interceptions and two forced fumble s. Frenchie
Anyone upset that we lost Asante. I thought he was going to be good after a year on the practice squad. Guest Metcalf_FTW
I don't know why all the Elam hate but Tampa let this guy go and claimed Larry Asante from us, so they must have had a reason to let him go and like Asante more. Seems like our loss.

Harry Buffalo
150 tackles and 5 int in only five starts and around 20ish games just subbing in doesn't sound too bad to me especially since we basically got him for a guy we drafted late and couldn't break the 53 man roster. Elam, and the crap back ups we just use for special teams are what kept this guy on the practice squad, so I highly doubt he had the ability to do much this season or next season. hx214
I'm going to add a +1 on not understanding the Elam hate... Dude had 2 sacks last game, strip 6 the game before and some picks... Think the hate needs to be thrown on the Wright pile. Dude goes down, has a rookie come in to replace him and the secondary gets a huge boost. Not sure on this new guy. Wasn't this about the same time last year when they pulled Roth in off the wire? Maybe we will be pleasantly surprised. Either that or the practice squad just needed to fill the empty spot Asante left so they could scrimmage.

shepwrite
Elam's playing at a high level right now, not for two games but for 4-5. I read that he's not only playing faster and understanding his role better, but Ryan is adapting to his strengths. Sabby is expected to take Bubba Ventrone's nickel package in-the-box position, almost like a linebacker. Ventrone is getting abused because he isn't big enough for that role. We've never really talked about it, but Bubba has been on the field a lot, always up close.

We've never really talked about it, but Bubba has been on the field a lot, always up close. Agree 100% except for the part about Ventrone's size. Yes, he's short but he's not failing because he isn't big enough. He's failing because he isn't agile enough. In the last two weeks, he's given up big crossing routes while playing with INSIDE leverage. That's hard to do even when you stink. Hit 'em, slow 'em down, re-route them but do SOMETHING. I like the signing.

Beanpot
I know some Bucs fans liked him, but they are not the most knowledge sorts. He is more experienced and drafted much higher than Asante, so I'm hoping he finds a home with us. Zombo I don't know a single Buc fan who liked the guy, and most of that dislike had to do with where he was drafted. I hope the guy turns it around, obviously, but trumpeting his experience and draft position only amplifies just how much of a bust he has been to date. Here's a little back and forth between Shelton and Romano in the St. Pete Times today. Mostly unfunny rubbish, but it does nail the local perception of the player. GS: John, the good news is the Bucs are still interesting at the most interesting portion of the NFL schedule. The bad news is you're starting at safety. Now introducing: Sabby Romano. JR: I'd like to say I couldn't do any worse, but we both know that's not true. What's interesting about Sabby Piscitelli's release last week is that no one is pointing fingers at the Bucs. Sabby had become such a punching bag that fans seemed thrilled he was no longer on their sideline. I don't think it was Piscitelli's fault he was a bust. I think it was Tampa Bay's fault for drafting him in the second round. GS: Well, they wouldn't have drafted him there, but Dexter Jackson wasn't available until the second round of the following year. Seriously, the only question about cutting Piscitelli — the worst safety in Bucs history — was the timing. The closer Sabby got to the starting lineup, the worse he evidently looked. Put it this way, John. The Bucs traded a fading Booger McFarland for that draft pick, and Booger would have been a better safety. Is it a sad legacy to be remembered as not being worth a Booger? JR: Eeew. I don't know whether to tell you to wash out your mouth or blow your nose. At any rate, what kind of impact do you think it will have on the defense now that Cody Grimm is injured, Piscitelli is gone and the Bucs are down to Door No. 3 at safety? Does it change their willingness to blitz? To play man-to-man? To sing the Safety Dance? http://www.tampabay.com/sports/football/bu...is-late/1138202 Beanpot
