TBOW2000
Hey, guys!! Broncos fan here. I know. I know. I come in peace. Isn't Peyton Hillis a nice enough welcome gift? I wanted to get your opinions on your Defensive Coordinator, Rob Ryan. I think he's done a good job with your defense as far as keeping your team competitive and in every game. Is he well liked among Browns fans?

ATENEARS
Please people, what exactly has Rob Ryan done? Seriously, are you guys creaming your pants over a middle of the road defense that got there by a gimick scheme? People, we are 8-18 in the past two years. Our Defense is ranked 22nd in yards, up from 31st last year. In the last game, we blew a 21-7 lead and should have lost with a first down, the ball, and 1:42 on the clock. Defense? I'm all for it, when will it arrive on the North Coast? Thanks for Hillis, he makes Rob Ryan look great enough that I hope you pull the trigger. I agree with you up to the point of, What has he done to prove himself worthy of a head coaching job? You're correct, the defense isn't great and it's nothing other teams should look at for a Head Coach to build around. But the defense is better than their numbers, our offense can be so bad at times that they are put out there way more than they should be. But he has made some great improvements with questionable talent. Maybe in a couple years if this defense truly shines, then I'll believe people will be looking for him as a Head Coach. But now, I don't really think so. Plus I like him as our D Coordinator.
ClevelandFanForLife
i don't see mcdaniels getting fired. shanahan is under contract through next season and mcdaniels as well. that would mean that next year, denver would be paying 3 head coaches. i don't see that happening. Wouldn't Shanahan taking the Redskins job have relieved the Broncos from their obligation to pay him? I think it does. I don't think he can double dip by being paid a Head Coach's salary by one team and also being paid a Head Coach's salary by another.

It's just like with players, if they are have guaranteed money in their contract and they are let go they are owed that money. That's how Delhomme is making two pay checks this year. ATENEARS
wow. so wrong. i guess his dad's schemes were gimmicks too? c'mon. Seriously? His Dad's defenses were ranked high for nearly 18 years, from Super Bowl III, through the Purple People Eaters of Minnesota before being ranked #1 overall for THREE consecutive years in yardage and TWO consecutive years AT THE SAME TIME in pts with the Bears. Add in that surrounding this same era they were Top-5 in yards allowed for 6 consecutive years and Top-10 in pts for those same six. And Yes, he used gimicks to his success to, or 'inovation' if you will with nickname defenses such as "59-Blitz", "Taco Bell Blitz", "Cheeseburger Blitz", "the Purple People Eaters" and the famously successful "46 Defense". My Quam here with the son, is that Dad this this for almost two-decades, whereas the son has coached up mediocre talent to slightly above mediocre play. We were ranked 31st last year and 22nd this year and you answer me with a "C'mon" comment and compare our fat DC to one of the greatest defenses ever in the universe??? Don Shula's boy was a world-beater too huh? Some block gave him a shot as well ... as Roachmstr said, "Let's hope it's Cincy! (again)" you guys with the hate on our coaching staff have to stop. it's not like we've got cream of the crop talent on either side of the ball. after hillis, mccoy and cribbs on offense (play makers) and haden, fujita and ward on d..............that's it. thank god for a gimmick scheme. I never hate on our coaches, I'm just getting tired of us over inflating everyone on our roster that makes a good play or coaches a good game every now and then. We have a long way to go, if Rob Ryan doesn't want to stay here in Mecca and build the most dominating defense of our day, then F-him ... go coach back in Oakland. He hasn't done shit here (yet). I like the guy and want to keep him here as the DC, but all this talk about promoting a man that has barely done his job adequately is a joke. Win Rob ... then pound your chest like LeBron. You just said it your self, he is working with few people on the defense, even this year we have Rubin on the line, Fujita and Roth as line backers and Haden and Ward in pass coverage. You can't run a top 10 defense with only 5 players and I'm surprised that he is able to field a 22nd defense with it. His schemes were what allowed us to beat the NFL's two most dominate teams this year. Plus we haven't let a team score more than 28 points all season which alot of the good defenses in this league can't claim meaning that we might give up yards, or longer than wanted drives, but we bend, we don't break in alot of cases. I want him to stay here in Cleveland too, but not because I don't think he doesn't yet deserve to be a head coach but because I like how he runs our defense. Earl34
Rob Ryan doesn't have the attention to detail and discipline required to be a head coach (yet). When he was with the Raiders, his defenses were nothing special. Now, with Mangini, the defense is better than anything he ran in Oakland. Rob deserves credit for play-calling and planning but I think labeling him as a "top HC candidate" would be a mistake. Josh McDaniels is the definition of hubris and he's traded away every worthwhile offensive player you've had. He's ignored the defense which was bad even before he got there and he's more than deserving of a pink-slip. I just don't think Rob Ryan is your answer. I would hope for a Ron Rivera (although he's in your division so you might not get a shot at him).
BrownIndian
Rob Ryan will be alot more fun for the players to work with. Looking @ McDaniels record, trade and policies Im sure anyone Romeo Crenell would be an amazing coach to have for you guys. He is a good DC too. calfoxwc
Please people, what exactly has Rob Ryan done? Atenears **************************************** Well, he has INSPIRED this defense into playing kickass football !!!!!!!!!! Just because a coach has all the right great players in place, doesn't make him a great coach. A great coach gets the best results from the players he HAS. THAT is a great coach. Ryan becomes a head coach, he'd do great. He has the people skills, the intensity, and he's fun for the players to relate to. I believe that Ryan got the gatorade treatment before Mangini did. Some of the greatest things coaches do, is inspire, and modify a system to the abilities of his players. Any nitwit coach can have a system, and stupidly try to make the players fit it. Ryan can't go anywhere til we get to the superbowl the next two years.
