If the Playoffs started today Week 15

If the Playoffs started today these teams would be in:

AFC

North: Pittsburgh

East: New England with #1 seed

South: Jacksonville

West: Kansas City

Wildcards: Jets, Ravens

In the hunt: Colts for the South title and WC, Chargers for the West title and WC, Dolphins for the Wildcard.

The three latter teams chances on the wildcard would require the Jets to go into the complete tank and lose at least 2 of their last 3 games...which they seem perfectly capable of.

NFC

North: Chicago

East: Philadelphia

South: Atlanta with #1 seed

West: Ram (by virtue of victory over Seahawks)

Wildcards: Saints, Giants

In the hunt: Packers and Bucs for the Wildcard. Seahawks and 49ers for the West

Big games between various contenders are everywhere this weekend:

49ers vs. Chargers

Chiefs vs. Rams

Saints vs. Ravens

Jets vs. Steelers

Jags vs. Colts

Giants vs. Eagles

Falcons vs. Seahawks

Packers vs. Patriots

Bengals/Browns is for nothing but draft position and pride really.

Not trying to nit-pick, but the Raiders & Cardinals are still alive as well.

Funny thing is the entire NFC West might lose this weekend, and all 4 teams could still be alive for the division title. Simply unreal.

Right, I guess they are mathematically still alive. Not probable, but mathematical, yes.

I wish the NFL would fix there playoff system. It will be sad seeing teams with losing records make the post season, while teams with much higher records will have to stay home. Sub 500 teams should never make the postseason when there are teams with better records.

I think it should be fixed as follows:

In order to claim a divisional play-off berth, a team must have a winning record, i.e. 9-7 or better. The wildcard team with the best record (per NFL rules) will then claim a home play-off game for any division failing to produce a 9-7 or better record. Right now in the NFC the Saints would get a home play-off game (West likely will forfiet) and the Packers/Giants would be road wildcard teams. Divisional teams would always trump a wildcard team for same records below 9-7. Winning a division with a minimum of a 9-7 record will always trump a wildcard team.
