Loyalty
LINK Colt McCoy gets the call for the rest of the season Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on December 16, 2010, 11:02 AM EST Eric Mangini and Browns fans have something in common: They both don’t want to see Jake Delhomme play again this season. Mangini announced Thursday that rookie Colt McCoy would start Sunday against the Bengals and for the remaining three games of the season. McCoy missed three weeks with a high ankle sprain. It’s not like it was a tough decision. Mangini remarked that McCoy “earned” the job; it’s not just a case of looking towards the future. Despite getting taken late in the third round, McCoy has easily been the most effective quarterback on the roster. Look for Seneca Wallace to be the No. 2 quarterback Sunday so the team can use him in WildDawg formations. Delhomme may very well have played his last snap in Cleveland. He’s certainly played his last NFL season with a $7 million salary.

shepwrite
Double hell yeah. This is a first for Mangini, declaring a QB for three whole weeks! I've never wanted a labor dispute settled so badly. I really think "next year" means something this time.
shepwrite
Grossi speculates that Wallace will be the second QB for the same reason (WildDawg). I hope we sign Wallace as the backup next year... but that only happens if this coaching staff is gone, I think. Feels like bad blood.
TheClevelandSound
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?i...er_espn_5926097 BEREA, Ohio -- Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini named rookie quarterback Colt McCoy the starter for their upcoming game against the Cincinnati Bengals and for the remainder of the 2010 season Thursday. McCoy, who missed the past three games with a high-ankle sprain, will take first-team reps in practice with the Browns for the second straight day. Mangini said it was his call. But he also consulted with Browns president Mike Holmgren and offensive coordinator Brian Daboll about giving the job to McCoy for the final three games of the year. "I feel like he's earned this opportunity and I want to give it to him," Mangini said. "I want to see how he continues to grow. This is by no stretch just throwing a young guy in just to throw a young guy in." McCoy was injured on Nov. 21 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Before that, the third-round pick provided a spark for Cleveland's offense and led the team to wins over the New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots. In five games McCoy threw for 975 yards, three touchdowns, three interceptions and was 2-3 as a starter. Browns veteran quarterback Jake Delhomme struggled in place of McCoy. Last week he threw for 86 yards, one interception and lost a fumble in a loss to the Buffalo Bills. Mangini said Delhomme took the news like a professional. Mangini also hinted this week that it's possible Seneca Wallace could be the No. 2 quarterback when the Browns (5-8) face Cincinnati (2-11), so the team would preserve the option to run some WildDawg packages and other trick plays if needed. I hope they are right about Seneca being the backup. Zombo They are doing it because he runs the WildDawg and he is more effective as a backup because people don't game plan for him during practice. I agree......in some interviews Wallace was making a lot of those 'you'll have to ask the coach about that" answers. Those usually indicate friction. I doubt Wallace signs with Cleveland knowing he is going to be the long term back-up. He wants a chance at starting. Hell go somewhere he thinks he at least will be given a shot.
