dawg08
I have been defending the defense most of the year and now I'm getting tired of their crappy play!! The last few weeks they have been awful!! It seems Mangenious hasn't figured out how bad they have played because he continues to go for FG's and playing conservative instead of taking a chances (where he has nothing to lose) and the opposing team just marches down the field to put up 7pt!! JUST GO FOR MANGENIOUS!!! YOUR DEFENSE CAN"T STOP THE OPPOSING TEAM ANYWAY!!
Harry Buffalo
If you expect our defense to only allow 10 points a game then you might as well stop watching because it's never going to happen. Until now we were the only team in the NFL to not allow an opponent to score over 30 points, the only team to score over 24 is the Steelers and they have done it twice. Yes they suck today, but to say that they sucked the whole season is ridiculous. The only stat about defense that matters is points aloud, and we are ranked 7th in the nation. Blame the offense for the loses.

I never said they sucked the whole season, but again they have been downright horrible the last few weeks!! They couldn't stop a high school team today!! Everybody was calling for Ryan to be the head coach for next year, but after the last few weeks, he may be sent packing!! IMO he should be back next year as the D coordinator, but both Daboll and Mangini should be gone, but I have a feeling if Mangini goes, so will everyone else on this coaching staff. The only game where the Defense was outright horrible was today, the rest of the games we win if we have an offense that could do something. When your offense only gets around 10 points in the last four games it doesn't matter how good your defense does.

There was only one team on the field today that had a good defense. i wish i could see the games through your rose colored glasses. i've been watching the same shit since 1999. i envy you. Harry Buffalo
You people look at a defense that was night and day compared to last year and is in the top ten and top 15 in most categories and you are pissed just because of this game. You have all shown your complete inability to judge any kind of talent or improvement so at least now I know who to ignore when they start spouting bullshit. I'm not sure what you have been watching the last 3 or 4 games, but the defense has stopped no one when they needed to. And don't tell me injuries are a factor because every team goes through them and good coaching works through those. They couldn't stop the run for nothing!! Remember the Cincy game?? And what really bothered me today was it was the last game of the season, against your #1 nemesis AT HOME and had a chance to really screw the sqealers and they stunk it up!! I don't care what their record was, they seemingly didn't bother to show up!!

And don't forget the beginning of the season when we gave up 4th quarter leads is week 1 (TB) and week 2 (KC) and week 3 (Balt)...... Of course we had good stats as the defense lost all those games, but i guess that doesn't matter. After all, we finished 15th (or something like that) in the NFL. Where do we pick up our trophy for that?

I don't care what their record was, they seemingly didn't bother to show up!! And I'm not fighting you and saying our run defense isn't that bad. It has sucked this year, it is 26th in the league. The difference between us and other teams though is that while other teams have depth, alot of other teams back ups could and in some cased should be starters on our team. When we lose a starter we have to fill the spot with some un proven practice squad player. The fact here is the whole defense doesn't completely revolve around the run defense and out of the past 4 games, only this one against the Steelers was a game where the defense literally xxxxed us out of being able to win. If you can honestly say that our defense lost us the game against the Bills when they only gave up 13 points then there is no point in me even arguing with you people. Even against the Bengals and the Ravens we only gave up 19 and 20 points respectively. If your offense can't score more than that then you really don't deserve to win the game. I will say this one last time, the only stat that really xxxxing matters is points per game in which we were ranked 6th. We couldn't outscore the teams we faced, that's on the offense, that's why we had a losing season.

That's why we lost the close first few games.
Harry Buffalo
WRONG on both accounts. Probably not 6th now that we just gave 41 points to the Steelers, but when you are only letting most teams score 17ish points and you still can't win I just don't understand how you blame your Defense. We are not going to start winning games until our Offense can start sustaining drives and score some points that are not field goals. I'm sorry your favorite D Corrdinator isn't wait he used to be over their in San Diego, but with our players that we have here he isn't going to do any better than Ryan, and after we don't see any progress your more than likely going to be the first person to turn on him. But until this game they were the only team not to give up 30 points in a game and were tied with the Ravens and Steelers for least amounts of Rushing TD's given up in the league. I wish everyone would quit their bitching and start using some common sense on what football is about. You can't build Rome in a day.

Tour2ma
First post ... here goes nothing... I don't think the defense ever recovered from the loss of Scott Fujita. LB's are the heart of the 3-4 and SF was, in retrospect, the heart of the D. At 31 I expect him to come back strong in '11. The rest of the LB talent is getting a little long in the tooth, e.g., Barton (33), Bowens (33) and/or isn't versitile enough (Roth). I like Gocong, but don't know how much better he can get. I thought Benard was a decent pass rush prospect based on his fast start, but he disappeared around mid-season. Browns top draft priority on the defensive side has to be an impact LB followed by a prospect LB. And as for the rest: I thought a lot was wrung out of the D-line with decent, but limited talent. Good age mix here. The secondary was developing and should be better with 2010's experience under its belt. Wright's the question mark here (although I’m afraid I know the answer). Brown surprised me and could still have a couple good campaigns in him. Haden has proved to be solid... great tackler... and he will get better. I think TJ is learning that there's more to the NFL than big hits (I swear he was trying to bait BEN R into the very throw he made on the Steelers' first play). I believe he’s our SS in the not too distant future... As for Ryan… his “semi-rush two/ stand back nine and defend the pass” pass-defense infuriated me for a good while, but then I realized it actually worked in the overall scheme. You have to play with the cards you are dealt. He won't likely get one, but I think he deserves the chance to continue.
Nw220
Are D was pretty terrible today but we still need more playmakers and are younger guys time to develop we truly lack superstars on D besides maybe Ward and Haden who are both rookies we have fill in players and we need to just to continue to draft right and then we will be better, we can mostly blame are poor teams defense on past years draft failures similar to alot of other bad teams Lions etc. If you draft well your team will improve that is very important, also you need to sign still veteran FAs that have something to contribute not Willie McGinest and other guys who best days are behind them, make a splash in the FA for once i really wanted this team to go for Micheal Burner Turner when he was a FA because i thought he would fit this AFC North great... We will get there we just need to build this team up this past years draft was great has to be at least one of the best drafts if not the best for any team
