ClevelandFanForLife
I listed the names that have been connected to this job. What say you? Personally, I am holding out hope for Jeff Fisher. He probably won't leave Tennessee and if he does, will probably go somewhere else. However, of all the names out there, I want him the most. BrownsBacker
Jim Tressel......lol I did vote 'college coach' but I'm really not sure who, I would just like to see us bring up a college coach with holmgren in power overlooking him and mentoring the new virgin nfl coach that I am currently fantasizing about. I know the whole thing is alot more complicated than the statement Im about to make, but I still just feel like these guys like Gruden and such aren't coaching anymore for a reason. I guess the same could be said for Mike Holmgren then using that argument...My head hurts.

DawgEatSteel
look im gonna get a lot of heat for saying this but lets be real...you dont win a superbowl unless you have ESPN's approval...look at every team who has ever won...espn loved them said they were good on the air, gave publicity to the team, etc..etc... i believe we need a coach to come in here whos got a good name tag attatched to him to get these guys fired up and make them think that every game is a sunday night game or monday night game...(before you yell at me there is a hint of sarcasm in my statement)
Kosar_For_President
I like Gruden. He grew up a Browns fan. He coached for Holmgren. He designs good passing offenses ... he's experienced, succesful, rested ... what's not to like? Zombo Yea agreed. Gruden looks like the best choice at this point. BROWNandORANGE
Yea agreed. Gruden looks like the best choice at this point. Gruden is clearly the best choice, but does he want to coach? He seems pretty happy doing MNF.
1 more season
I think John Fox is a good coach but needs a season to decompress after the last 2 years in NC. Not sold on Marty 2.0 but I guess it could work. I really like GRuden but I can't see him leaving a cushy job like MNF. A College guy probably not especially Lane Quiten. Actually, I guess I have no answers today Just opinions.
hoorta
He looks like a creepy doll from awful horror movies I just saw Sam Bradford on SC. Is he Asian? IIRC Bradford is part American Indian. Chucky Gruden is probably the short odds favorite to win the job but don't forget Holmgren has to abide by the "Rooney Rule" and bring in at least one minority candidate- which in all likelihood means Mike Singletary. I don't doubt Gruden is at least a closet Browns fan, but then again so was Mangini. Jon is going to want a ton of money to quit his cush job in the booth to coach again- and I'm not sure if the lure of working with his old pal and mentor Holmgren is going to be enough of an incentive to let him work (relatively) cheap. If I'm MH, I don't give Chucky $7 million a year, which he's probably going to demand, and someone will be willing to give it to him.
Segageek
Weird choice i know but Mike Sherman he's a WCO guy that mike wants he only had one bad season with the packers and that was cause half the roster was on ir. he's proven he can win he turned texas a and m to a winning team. and if ryan isnt back how about defense cord Jim Bates? BrownsBacker
I found this article interesting, I think we're going to know who the new HC will be sooner rather than later. http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/articl...c3-d96eeac75aee On Monday afternoon, President Mike Holmgren talked with the Cleveland media about the head coaching change. On Monday morning, Browns president Mike Holmgren relieved Eric Mangini of his responsibilities as head coach. Later in the day, Holmgren met with the Cleveland media to discuss the coaching move and also the direction of the club going forward. The Browns finished their second season under Mangini with Sunday afternoon’s 41-9 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Under Mangini, the Browns posted back-to-back 5-11 seasons and lost their last four games in 2010 after their 13-10 win against the Miami Dolphins on December 5. “I had the chance to meet with Eric this morning and we had a very good, but tough conversation,” said Holmgren. “It’s very difficult to say the least. I want to thank him publicly, him and his family, for what they have done for the organization and the community. We had a good relationship and that’s what made it so difficult. “I’ve said all along and I’ve tried to be true to is that I would make any decisions after the season was over. That’s how I make decisions. I didn’t sleep very well last night. I never had to do this before. I like the man a lot, but unfortunately, in this business, I want to win here. We want to win here in Cleveland and we did not win enough games this year.” Though the 2010 season has been officially over for less than 24 hours, Holmgren and his front office staff have hit the ground running in terms of looking for a replacement for Mangini. “It’s a pretty wide search; we’re not limiting ourselves in any way,” Holmgren said. “We will talk about this every day until it gets done. Tom Heckert and I will be the point-people to travel and meet people. “Probably around noon or 11 o’clock, we sent out request forms for a few guys and we’re waiting for responses,” he added. “My goal is to find exactly the right person for head coach of the Cleveland Browns and will eventually lead us to a championship.”

The Gipper
I have also heard the name Steve Mariucci being bandied about. He is a WCO guy and a Holmgren protege, and he had some success with the 49ers...though he sucked when he went to Detroit, but who doesn't. The Gipper
Oh, yes, and guess who else's name I have heard: Josh McDaniels. He, like Gruden was born and raised in NEOhio.

roach
According to the discussion on Mike and Mike this morning, Gruden and Morningweg are the front runners. Those are good choices; my preference is Gruden.
bringbackbrownie2
Fisher is just mangini with a brain...no thanks. I like gruden but thats not going to happen.. So if Fisher is "Mangini with a brain," what is wrong with that? The guy has coached nearly 17 years in the league and his team is always competitive. He has Super Bowl experience and 4 division championships. The only thing Gruden has done better was win a Super bowl, and that was with Dungy's team... longhorn
My dog just told me how things will play out. Gruden is too expensive at $7-8M per year. Mornhinweg as HC. Fox as the new DC. Mariucci as the new OC. Jim Zorn as QB coach. ....oh, and Michael Vick will follow Mornhinweg and come to Cleveland too.
BrownB499
I would prefer Holmgren, simply because he knows what we have...He has witnessed an entire season with the roster he supplied He now knows what Pittsburgh and Baltimore bring 4 games a year...and what he's going to need to beat them I could see him bringing in an all star staff (Ray Rhodes,Steve Mariucci,Dick Juerron,Jim Zorn) just to make sure he succeeds

Kosar_For_President
Gruden is clearly the best choice, but does he want to coach? He seems pretty happy doing MNF. Yea and pulling in 800k a year. He will get 5 mil to coach a team he grew up watching, under a GM that spawned him, and has the ability to come in and finally light a fire under the ass of some of this talent.
