The Gipper
There are or were a number of teams looking for new coaches: Oakland San Fran Denver Dallas* Minnesota* Cleveland Cincinnati Carolina and maybe Tenn. and maybe Miami. * Teams made interim coaches full time The question is: Where are all the big name coaches that were supposed to be candidates for jobs this year: The Grudens, Cowhers, Billicks, maybe Tony Dungy, maybe others. It seems to me, now, that not many of these are necessarily candidates for these coaching openings. Are these guys going to all stick with their media gigs? Is the coaching profession so...stressful, perhaps that these guys that have been to the mountaintop no long wish to vye for it again? So, what is up? Harry Buffalo
More than likely they will. They all said "Hey I'm not coaching anymore" and even in Grudens case he said at the very least he was going to finish his contract with MNF and his son said at the earliest his dad would take a job after next season. But the media and even us didn't listen to it because we see people say that shit all the time and don't mean it but we forget that alot of people still like to tell the truth now and again. shepwrite
I would guess that Gruden and Cowher will both coach again. Maybe this year, maybe not. I think it's kind of like my son and whether he plays college or not: One, he loves playing games... but 20 hours of practice a week from April through December wears on you. It's like starting your career at seven... after a while, you're not sure the love part is really worth the work part. Much like my son, these guys have other options. My son could go to college like 99% of other kids and enjoy it, get ready for grad school, etc. Gruden and Cowher can make a lot of money for a lot less work. But... all three are gonna miss it from time to time. It's hard work but the rewards are enormous.
Gips
I think the announcer coaches unlike the ever struggling up and coming coaches have the luxury of sitting back and waiting for that perfect job situation to develop if it ever does and i dont think cleveland is what they would have on their mind.. The Gipper
And how crazy is that? 10 game losing streak and they re-sign him. Unreal. I think Mike Brown saw keeping Lewis as the cheapest alternative. Plus, maybe he sees that the Bungles every other year under Lewis become the Bengals. They are hot and cold. Perhaps next year they will win again after a losing season. That does seem to be Lewis's pattern.
Harry Buffalo
The Dolphins are bring in Harbough to interview before they even fire your coach! Apparently they are un willing to fire him unless they can get Harbough and that they will even wait to interview for the Roony until they see if they get Harbough. How would you feel as the Dolphins coach knowing the owner ship wasn't willing to fire you until they felt they found someone better?

That does seem to be Lewis's pattern. or that the president of the team understands the ins and outs of football and not to blow up a team because of a dismal one year go. sure they are perennial losers (most of the time) but have they been better than the browns in recent years....yes. injuries, losses through FA, turmoil from within are all hinderances to the well being of a team. does it all fall on the head coaches shoulders? NO. but that being said if i was marvin lewis i would have resigned.
Gips
Lewis is very similar to mangini in terms of his mediocrity, he very often has very good talent on the field but still finds a way to lose and that is exactly where mangini was heading... I am thankful that randy cares more about the browns than brown cares about the bungals and would much rather have lerner as our owner than mike brown.. Money in itself cant buy nfl success unless its accompanied by the right people and i think we have a top notch FO now we need them to go out and bring us a winning coach, an amazing draft and some good player transactions and the new era cleveland browns will be open for business! The bengals have had way way more talent than the browns this year and in most past years. They have a pro bowl QB who had a bad year. They had two pro bowl receivers and a running back at least as good as hillis with better backups than ours. They have two good CBs. Can't compare two years of mangini with our talent to Lewis. imho Holmgren's worst nightmare would have been mangini going to the bengals

miktoxic
Jim Harbough declines Browns interview i don't know if it would be ideal for the nfl to see two head coaches (the harbaughs) throwin fists at each other at halftime/end of game. even though i think it would be hilarious. where's your boy gruden? thought he was comin to save the day (through your sources ). shepwrite
Wow. Dolphins are about to ink Harbaugh to a HUGE deal, over 7 mill a year. SF is bidding against them. That guy's agent really deserves a new Benz. I love Harbaugh, but that's insane money. Wonder what SF does now? Also, Mularkey canceled on Denver but not Cleveland. Interesting. I read that also, about Mularkey. He said it was because he wanted to focus on the play offs, but i dont buy that. I mean if that was true why not cancel the browns trip? Hoss
2 years, that's what we're giving the new guy right? I think people upset about losing Mangini got together Monday night and chose 2 years as the collective protest rant. I will say that I think you guys are mistaken if you think Holmgren is going to ice the HC after 2 seasons.
