So were going to have a new coach

So a new coach is comming to Cleveland with our young qb. I hate to be negative but it seems to me were starting all over again going to struggle next year (because we are so young) and have another new coach in 2 years. This needs to stop. We are getting a new coach every other year. Whatever coach they hire needs to have 3 full seasons

About 25% of the browns fanbase would have preferred to have kept mangini regardless of the many indicators showing that he wasnt going to take this team anywhere anytime soon..

Mangini is currently boasting that he has left this team ready to win consistently yet he leaves with 4 straight loses and said prior to last week that now this team needed to learn how to win consistently..

Mangini is a solid disciplinarian and foundation builder and he left our team in considerably better shape than he found it from the aspect of the players learning that they can win in this league if they were given the opportunity but they were often denied any creative or innovative ways to finish opponents off when we had the advantage and often out of sheer paranoia mangini and daboll turtled up offensively when we had the lead instead of trying to inflict the finishing blow..

Mangini's program is flawed from the practice system to the on the fly adjustments or the lack of, there was not enough innovation or creativity implemented in most games to do anything to fire up. spark or motivate the team to win and mangini in the end didnt have what it takes to deal with the adversity of a tough schedule and a middle of the pack talented team in which his system often prevented from using every weapon at his disposal often including complete sets of plays that were missing from the playbook...

I bid mangini a good farewell and do recognize what he done for this club but i also recognize that mangini is not the answer moving forward as his abilities end at coaching 101, he is a foundation builder not a championship or even an average skill head coach...

I know you have a huge man crush on Gruden but we are ALWAYS hiring somebody new. And in 2 years we will get another coach. ass

This has nothing to do with Gruden.. (yet)

We should just hire the right guy (Gruden) and we wont have to worry about a coach..

I'll say this and it's very pertinent. Leading up to this week i thought for SURE Marvin Lewis was out of Cincy. He's been there a long time and the franchise is a bit of a win/loss roller coaster. They've had a few nice drafts and seem to be on the right track. Mike Brown said it himself that he wants to maintain continuity and truthfully it's continuity that the Browns have always lacked. Until Lerner and Co. give a Coach a fighting chance no matter the wins/losses each season it's going to be ground hog day forever. I believe firing Mangini was a bad move but I guess we'll see. A new coach may come in and not like McCoy, may not like so and so and you're then at it again jockeying players each season. Somethings gotta give that's for sure.

I also think they should have given Mangini another year. The team was (is) heading in the right direction.

However, i don't think its going to be like starting from scratch again. The team will pick up, and take the next step next year anyway.

Our new coach will inherit a much better team than Mangini did and will reap some of the rewards that Mangini planted.

I was one of the guys who wanted to give Mangini more time & have some continuity, but he also was lacking in some areas.

As far as continuity, Holmgren INHERITED Mangini, who was hired by "non football guy" Lerner. For the first time since the Brown's return, they are run by SOLID football people, so I will defer to their judgment. They actually know a lot more than we Fans do about what type Coach is needed. I honestly feel that things are aligned for a proper decision & the continuity we all want (and NEED!).

We finally have a REAL NFL caliber management team. Let's trust 'em & see what happens...After all, it's not the same as some of the clueless idiots that were here in past years.

THAT... is awesome. Kind of post that ends the polarized hyperbole. Mangini did a lot to change the culture of the Browns, and together with a couple different GMs did a decent job of bringing in some good players, especially under the radar types like Moore, Roth, Watson, etc. The last draft looks to be pretty damn good.

But he doesn't seem to be much of a gameplanner or game day coach. I didn't see any systems worthy of continuity, as keeps getting brought up. I didn't see an offensive identity. He seriously seems lost at managing the quarterback position. He thought Kellen Clemens and Jake Delhomme were viable starters and has never talked about finding a centerpiece guy at the most important position.

I think we need a special draft and two serious pieces in free agency... and we need Colt McCoy to be a serious QB... and if all that happens, the Browns might indeed be in good shape next year. A lot of national pundits think they are.

I don't like that we as fans appoint saviors of our football team, before they actually save the team. I not gonna thank or praise Holgram or any one else untll our team is a winner that other teams have to worry about. I tired of getting excited over a coach or GM who is gonna turn the team around and never see it happen.

Incredible! Well put!

EVERY coach that has been brought in, EVERY GM brought in, many players drafted or brought in, are followed blindly, without proving themselves to the fans. The fan base wants an identity so much.

I was watching sportscenter today and all of the coaching buzz was about Miami, 49ers, and the Broncos. Not one word about who we were bringing in or who we have shown interest in, hell, no one even said that we were also looking for a coach. IMO, this means one thing. Here is how Holmgren's presser is going to go.

Every era is like a reboot. No continuity. No matter who the coach is, It is always going to take time to

- implement the system

- find the right talent suit the system

We better give the next coach more time than just two years. And please do not point out how the Kansas City Chiefs managed to turn things around - They dont play in a tough division.

please no one mention the 2 year rule..

There have been plenty of teams who hire a coach and they dont go 10-22. Im pretty sure that record gets most coaches fired..

So youd definitely fire a coach who went 6 and 22 in his first two years then, right?

I have a feeling the players that were brought in ARE part of Holgmren and Heckert's master plan, and Mangini didn't have that much input into those decisions.

And I'll bet the coach who is brought in will be very well versed in and already be running at least a variation of Holmgren's "system".

Don't worry about the lack of "press". The Walrus said he isn't saying boo until people actually come in and start interviewing, and I'd say Harbaugh isn't on his short list. The ESPN frenzy over Harbaugh is approaching the Level of LeBron's dog & pony show last year- it's getting ridiculous the way this stuff is getting overblown and over reported.

Peanut gallery comment-They turtled up even when they didn't have the lead, yet how do you explain why they wanted to retreat into their shells, when the all- out brilliant gameplan against the Saints worked so well?

Mangini's program is flawed from the practice system to the on the fly adjustments or the lack of, there was not enough innovation or creativity implemented in most games to do anything to fire up. spark or motivate the team to win and mangini in the end didnt have what it takes to deal with the adversity of a tough schedule and a middle of the pack talented team in which his system often prevented from using every weapon at his disposal often including complete sets of plays that were missing from the playbook...

Can't add much to that- other than MAYBE Holmgren saw Mangini didn't have a clue as to how to best manage the quarterback position. Like Shep pointed out Clemens in NY, then the Quinn-DA debacle, and then trotting out a crippled Jake D against the Falcons.

you know why that is don't you? because everyone knows that we'll have another head coach in two years. if you've watched sportscenter recently especially after mangini's firing you couldn't have helped noticing on the scroller across the bottom of the screen that they noted about the browns: 5 new coaches since being back in the league in 99. 11 years and five coaches? that's FXXKING embarrassing. and you wonder why nobody cares? we are a laughing stock to the rest of the league right now. thanks fat boy!!
