THE BROWNS BOARD

Raiders losing a bunch

According to Rosenthal at PFT...

Former Raiders coach Tom Cable helped turn Robert Gallery’s career around when he moved him from tackle to guard. It sounds like Gallery will be free to follow Cable to his next job should he choose.

Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune lists Gallery as one of the 25 potential Raiders free agents this offseason, depending on free agency rules in the next collective bargaining agreement. The NFLPA’s website has Gallery under contract until 2014, but the deal has apparently voided.

Other notable Raiders names that could be free to leave include tight end Zach Miller, safety Michael Huff, and running back Michael Bush. Defensive end Richard Seymour could go if he doesn’t get the franchise tag. (If there is a franchise tag.)

We have no clue when free agency will actually start up again, but it’s going to be fascinating when it does. With more players available than ever, the best pro personnel departments will have a bigger advantage on their competitors than usual.

Would Gallery be an option for RT or RG for us?

Would we want to bring in Miller, Huff, or Bush?

I'm going to be we won't or can't get all of them, as many teams will be clamoring... but why not take a look and raid the black and silver?

I could see the possibility of the NFL stepping in at some point and taking over operations of the Raiders.

Al Davis, no matter how senile he may get...and he may be very senile already, would never step aside and let someone else run "his" franchise, thus, the NFL may have to intervene.

They wouldn't take over his ownership rights the way they did with Modell and Victor Kiam who drove their franchises to financial ruin, just his management rights.

Gallery is going to want big bucks, not an option.

Micheal Huff would be a nice additon with TJ Ward back there and i dont know how much he would want but i wouldnt mind him, yeah Gallery might be to expensive id rather put the money towards a RT...And id love to have Seymour just for the fact that he punched Big Gay Ben in the mouth and we'd get to play them twice a year hes a welcome addition in my book if we could land him

Michael Huff is awful, and Gallery isnt that good. He is a guard getting paid Tackle money(what he was drafted as) and will probably want more yet. Not worth it. I would love to have Michael Bush and/or Richard Seymour, but I dont see either happening as we have 2 RBs that are younger and do the same things as Bush and Seymour will get a big contract or end up back in NE is my bet.

I see many if not most of them being resigned or franchised. Seymour and Miller will definately not go anywhere. Gallery is a question mark as he is getting older and more injury prone. Michael Huff has his very good moments and bad. Many raider fans nicknamed him Michael Fluff. As a Raider fan, I`m most worried about Bush leaving. He really does well in the 1-2 punch with McFadden back there. Then again, Al davis is Al Davis and we`ll be the last ones to know what he has up his sleave.

That area hasn't had it together to muster up a single NFL quality stadium, why do you think it could get 2 of them.

Where would they play?

LA just isn't an NFL town. There isn't enough of a stable "rooted in LA" fanbase. The citizenry is too transient. Also, given the success of USC (which could probably beat the Panthers and Broncos), and the other schools within the city limits, it's going to remain a pure college football town. Much like Florida, which shouldn't have 3 NFL franchises. That being said, I agree with you that as some point, the NFL is either going to have to step in, or Mr. Davis is going to have to pass on for the Raiders to be fixed. A shame really. Oakland is one of those old smash mouth franchises that helped build the NFL....dirty play or not.

Agreed again..I think we tend to forget some of the good things Al Davis brought to the game in the spirit of football..."Just Win"...Its just tragic watching him fester to oblivion...

Not to mention that if you talk to old Raiders from the 1970's all they do is talk trash about the Squealer teams of the decade and how soft they were. I love it!!

Zach Millers' stats were down some this year due to a mid year foot injury that shouldn't have any long term implications. He also hurt his knee in the season ender vs. KC. The spin is that his knee is 100%.

His game has improved every year since joining the Raiduhs. He is big and strong with above average speed for a tight end his size. Pending a quick resolve of CBA issues and his FA status, I think he should

definitely be on the Brown's radar.. He would be pricey to bring onboard but he could fer sure help the Browns in their quest to become top dog of the AFC north.

Been a Raider fan for many years and although Al Davis and his team can be unpredictable and very sercretive about their intentions, I`d predict the following: No way Miller, Seymour get away. Al will out bid anyone to keep them or franchise Seymour. Al will try to keep Gallery but won`t get into a bidding war. Gallery is at the end of his career and has missed 14 games due to injury in the last 2 seasons. Bush will probably stay but if let go, he`ll have a 1st round tender on him as he is a RFA. I believe the same for Stanford Routt. (the Raiders have no 1st round pick this year) Huff may stay unless he gets a top dollar offer from someone. He great in the blitz schemes but is a soft tackler and average in cover. The Raiders aren`t the only team with so many FA`s coming out but I believe Al Davis is mostly successful in keeping players that he really wants to keep to the point of overpaying them (see Nnamdi Asomugha) and I believe he`ll hold on to most of the core FA`s this year. Of course the CBA can null and void everything I`ve just typed.

The smartest move Mr. Davis could make in the offseason is relinquishing control of the team's operations. Until he does so, I'm afraid 8-8 will be the team's high water mark.

Every Raider fan in the world agrees with you but I don`t see it happening as football is the only thing keeping him alive I believe. He eats, drinks, sleeps football 24/7. He hates the spotlight, rarely attends parties or seen in public. He is 100% football. Part of the reason Oakland rarely sells out is because there is a huge Raider fanbase here in the Bay Area that still haven`t forgiven Al for moving to LA. They refuse to give Al one penny of their money. Good or bad, the Raiders always sold out prior to their move to LA. Of course several losing seasons in a row also doesn`t help. It has been said Al`s son Mark will inherit the team when Al dies. It has also been said that Mark wants no part of the football aspect and will hire a GM. Time will tell.
