THE BROWNS BOARD

Attention: NEW REGISTRATIONS

Since the first of the New Year, our Host is reporting that Spam infiltration is at an all-time high. This has caused us to take some unfavorable measures. With almost thousands of new registered memberships over the past few days and 98% of those being accounts only here to Spam and promote foreign porn sites and such, we have grown tired of picking through possible legit accounts and deciphering Spam accounts, therefore we have resulted in policing by mass deletions of newer accounts. In the process we have noticed that we may have caused a few casualties of legit accounts, and we apologize for that.

New registrants that have been accidentally deleted, please re-register.

Those that use common free e-mail accounts such as gmail, yahoo, or even foreign accounts such as yahoo.UK may find you being blocked. If there are ANY problems whatsoever with your account during this combating period, please email me at admin@thebrownsboard.com an we will do our best to resolve any issues with your legit account.

We have many security procedures already in place and have major platform changes still to come to help protect the site from this bullshit assault from low life's using the computer, the Internet, and innocent sites such as ours, as their personal playground.

Again, we apologize to all for having to wade through some of these bogus posts, and we apologize to those new registrants looking to help grow our community and who have been swept-up in the mess.

Thank-you to all for your patience in dealing with this matter.

We also may be suspending new registrations (or manually approving them) and possibly locking-out some of the secondary forums this weekend. If interested in joining the forum, your best bet would be to email us after registering. e-mail: admin@thebrownsboard.com

I apologize, that was my doing and we severed a few good members in our process. Thanks for re-registering and for your understanding.

You guys wouldn't believe the amount of Spam accounts that we have had in the past ten days. litterally thousands of accounts. It gets tiring spending all morning cleaning up those who registered over-night, so we resulted to wholesale swift deletions and some of you got caught in that shake-down.

Thanks again.

For those others who will need to re-register (such as Joey-Bag-Of-Donuts), we have now gone to a manually approve system where one of our Administrators will have to approve your account, even after you verify your email address. It may take a bit longer to register as we all have personal lives to live, specially over the playoff weekend.

I also suggest, if you have a way of doing it, that you limit the ability of new people to preview profile pages (they're obviously looking for email address or other stuff for phishing). Maybe make them wait 7-14 days or something. PM me if you want an example of a user name who appears to still be active.

I believe that we have email addresses blocked here. When using the site to email someone, it blocks the email address.

I have been through this problem before. If you will just ban the -12 time zone, it will take care of almost all of the foreign accounts.

You can also set in your control panel, that a user must have 15-20 post before they can post a link.

I use Vbulletin software, but I am sure that you can find what you need for your software.

Good Luck!
