ClevelandFanForLife
To my fellow devoted fans: I know there hasn't been a whole lot to hang our hats on since our return. In fact, we have downright stunk. We rarely have a winning season, our rivals routinely pound us and our most hated rival is once again in the Super Bowl. We have been the butt of many jokes by fans across the NFL and broadcasters alike. However, I can tell you this: none of those fans or broadcasters have the heart that we do. We continue to sell out every game year after year and never give up on our team. It used to make me upset that there are so many non-Pennsylvania born Steeler fans out there, especially in Northeast Ohio. However, I now feel bad for them. They don't believe in anything. They jumped ship to a team that wins more. Forget them. We don't need them and we don't want them. So the Steelers made another Superbowl... So what? It doesn't effect how I feel about my team or what I believe we will achieve someday. Although I respect your franchise, I do not envy you. You have your history and we have ours. We don't exactly have a lot of bragging rights over anybody but I know that we have this over them: We will never give up on our team. No matter how much our team sucks and who we lose to, our fans will never stop cheering on our Browns. We're in this for the long haul guys. It will take time, patience and most importantly, OUR SUPPORT. They can't do it without us guys. We have a lot of young talent on this team and guys in charge that I trust more than other regime since we've been back. I can't wait for this off-season and upcoming draft. Let's make the most of it. I am very proud to be a Browns fan and so should all of you who still believe. Hold your heads high, we will reach the top some day. Go Browns! BrownIndian
Guys, the Steelers making it to the superbowl is a good day for them, for us it is just another day - it is not a bad day. The day we are out of contention is the day we are indifferent to others.
next2nothing
I'll be honest, watching the game tonight made me feel like shit. I'm a young guy and I don't know how it must feel to be an older fan but watching tonight's game made me feel like I'll never see the Browns have success. The Steelers looked like a well oiled machine and bulldozed the Jets. The score was close but we all know that game was decided in the first half. It's no wonder we've gotten stomped by the Steelers every year save one time for the past 10. They have stars on either side of the ball. They have great coaches. Most important they have a great all around organization. Our organization is nowhere near that. We're inconsistent week in and week out and it's been that way since 99. We stomp teams one week then lay an egg the next week. Half the time we as fans about have heart attacks because when we do win it's decided in the last 10 seconds. Our guys are tough, hard nosed players but no one outside of Cleveland can name more than 5 people on the current roster. I have no problem with that but it seems like our talent is always well below other teams in the division every single year. Our coaches basically sign 2 year contracts because they're outta here quicker then they came in. Up till Heckert we've had bust after bust as our GM and have had to endure shit like seeing our whole day one draft go thanks to Savage. Or watch Davis, who knew the talent level in Miami was amazing, draft everyone but Miami guys. As much as I hate the Steelers, I yearn for the Browns to be like that. I want to see the Browns in the post season, I want to see the Browns crush the teams they are supposed to instead of it being a coin flip, I want to see the Browns acquire high level talent and compete. I just honestly feel that this team will never reach the promised land and every year I get my hopes up only to have them destroyed. So, rant aside... I hope this organization has finally got it right after 10 years of trying. I'll always be a Browns fan but I'm losing hope that I'll ever seem them become a winner. I read your thread and I don't think that it's the culture of the NFL that we lose. I just don't know why we haven't even sniffed success. The Jaguars and Panthers, both expansion teams in the last 20 years like us, have gotten to the playoffs and one has reached the Super Bowl and probably would have won if they had played any other team but the Patriots. Trust me I wish it wouldnt get to me like this. I look at games completely differently now. I say to myself "did they not put any effort on that play because they are being forced to lose?" When the Jets beat us I analysed the last play so much to the point where it looks like all of our defenders missed tackling Holmes on purpose so the NFL wouldn't have a tie game. Shit like this makes me miserable.

Just gotta be patient I guess and hope this time we get it right. On a side note that reminded me of something that was kind of messed up. A buddy of mine is a big gambler, he usually is up, anyway he had money on the Colts and Titans game Dec 9 that ended with a score of 30 - 28. The spread was 3 and it was the very end of the game, Titans were losing 30 - 21, no chance of even winning, but they throw a TD as time expired. My buddy loses $ and talks about the NFL being rigged. I don't think it was rigged but time was expiring so the only reason I can see why Fisher would go for a TD instead of just kick 3 and gtfo is to make the score seem closer than it really was or keep the tempo up with his offense. Frenchie
I look at it this way. This is the best that I have felt about the Browns in over a decade. I believe in this management, our new QB ( a natural leader and a deadly accurate short passer) and a number of players (mostly new additions along with JT and a few of the veterans). Sure we have alot of work before making the playoffs and we have a new coach, and yes we seen that before. But I think it's different this time and another good draft w/free agents in a couple of spots, and suddenly, .500 is possible. Then the playoffs the following year. Watch these Browns soar! Carolina Brownie
Very depressing watching these teams make it to the playoffs and now the Superbowl. I just don't see my team ever making it there. Just years and years of the same mediocre football makes the mind and heart hurt. Now I'm stuck on the mentality that we will never be good. I don't see how a team can be this bad for this long. But every year the season starts I have this pathetic sliver of hope my team can do good, then it becomes shattered mid-way through the season. Oh well, the life of being a Browns fan. Forever and always. Go Browns!
Bob806
I empathize with all of my fellow Browns fans, but here's my take- We can crawl out of this hole, and yes, it's too many years to be in this hole. The Colts were NFL garbage for years (mid 70s-98), and now even though they appear vulnerable, they have turned it around. The Bills were a joke for so many years and then made 4 straight Super Bowls. Packers...they sucked too from about 1972-95. We can turn it around, we're just out of patience as fans. I'm sticking with my Browns no matter what (even though I'm sick of leaving the stadium depressed). Holmgren & Heckert will get us out of this mess, but sadly, it's still 2 years away I think..too short on talent. The only teams that have consistently been winners in my NFL lifetime (1970 -now) are the dreaded Steelers & Cowboys. Some may argue that there are others, but really, those are the only 2 IMHO. It doesn't have anything to do with revenue, it's management. Once the Browns turn it around, they will sell tons of Browns garb all over the nation as well, just like they did in the 80s. In the meantime, I was invited to a Super Bowl party, but I fear I'm just going to drink myself into a stupor watching our arch rival win it all again. Go Browns!!!! calfoxwc
I remember the Packers, Jets, Saints and Chicago being some of the worst teams in the NFL. And, the Patriots, too. There was a day when the squeelers sucked. But, the stinkin squeelers parlayed their draft picks into a winning football team, by drafting a certain type of player. Talented, fast, mean nasty, loves playing tough football... and willing to take steriods. Our Browns have FINALLY started drafting the same kind of player they want again, consistently. Talented, fast, high character, loves playing tough football, solid role models and additions to the community, and willing to work hard to win. THAT makes me PROUD to still be a Browns fan forever, ever since I got to watch Leroy Kelly and Co. beat the squeelers at the U. of Akron Rubber Bowl when I was a kid. When it comes around, none of us will be bandwagoners like so MANY squeeler and niner fans. The next two years are going to pay off hugely. I wonder who the squeeler fans will root for next season, when their current "favorite" team loses to the Packers in the superbowl? The Packers will make the squeelers pack it in. mopaji
Actually the Browns have been in the top half (and sometimes top 10) in the league in total revenue. We still turn a hefty profit. Because of this, there is no real incentive to win games. The Lerner's look at the profit sheet; not the win column. Every few years they fire and hire somebody to get the fans excited just long enough to sell the following season's tickets. Watch, right before tickets go on sale, you'll see a big name free agent get signed, a trade for an extra draft pick, or a story about how a fan favorite is killing it in OTA's; only to end the season at 5-11. Mangini was building this team the right way, for continued success. Lerner followed the above formula like he does every year, and here we are again, starting over. It's like spring time again for much of the fan base. It's colorful and warm. But for a lot of us; we know damn well we are just weeks away from a hot, humid, mosquito-infested, rainy summer that turns to winter just before our emotional meltdown. Just when I couldn't feel any worse. But you're right, there isn't any incentive for Lerner to improve the team. Well, we all wanted a "hands off owner." I guess this is what we're stuck with. I have to feel that if his dad were still alive today that this team would not be struggling the way that it has, and stuck on stupid! Since we're making predictions here, who is willing to bet that big name free agent gets hurt in training camp, and can't contribute other than to be a "voice or a mentor?" You also left out a QB controversy in your assessment! Hell, why not? Happens every year. Myself, if I owned the team, I'd be seething mad with what has transpired over the past several seasons, and knowing that my organization is a doormat of the NFL, and a mockery of a once great football tradition! Screw the damn money at this point! This is a pride issue! If I win consistently, I'd probably still make a shit load of money. Even more with winning consistently. I mean, if he can't see this, then he deserves the apathy that this fanbase is dishing out, because that is where it's heading. I'm willing to give Holmgren and Shurmur a chance! But I want to see STEADY progress. If it is going to take 2-3 years to even be a contender, then so be it. But I want to see the W-L record improve EVERY year! I want a series of good drafts, and want to see dramatic improvements on both sides of the ball, and not just glimpses of hope that fizzle out, or we end up running good players and personnel out of here! The bottom line here is 5-11 is unacceptable! 5-11 is what I expected in the first couple of years of the new Browns. Not in 2010 or 2011! We need to start holding the Browns to a higher standard, and DEMAND EXCELLENCE out of this organization!
Slurp and Burp
Tsk, Tsk, Tsk, Browns Fans. You should be ashamed to still be whining about the Pittsburgh Steelers. I am offering you some hometown friendly advice: 1) At the beginning of every season all teams start 0-0 and every team has a chance to make the playoffs, championship game, and Super Bowl. 2) All teams have the freedom to scout players and draft. How you draft and what you do with those players is up to your team. 3) All teams have the freedom to pick their front office and coaching staffs. 4) Not all teams cry year after year like yins do because you can't get it right. 5) Most teams are able to turn their fortunes around in 2-3 years except the Browns and whose fault is that? Most fans do not constantly complain like yins do.
