The Gipper
Another fact: Super Bowl III starting QB Earl Morrall was later the Quarterbacks coach for the University of Miami. His charges include Jim Kelly, Bernie Kosar, and Vinny Testaverde. Morrall also later became the Mayor of Davie, Florida and while Mayor he got the Miami Dolphins to move their training facility to Davie.

In 2010 he was named by the fans as the #1 Cowboy of all time. He also served as the Chairman of the local Committee that headed the effort to bring the Super Bowl to be held Sunday to Dallas. After his retirement from the Cowboys he started a real estate development company that came to be worth Multi-billions of dollars with 70 offices throughout the country. The Gipper
Facts on SB QB Terry Bradshaw: *Bradshaw once held the US record for the javelin throw. *Though the Steelers do not retire numbers, no player for Pittsburgh has worn #12 since he has. *In his senior year in college at Louisiana Tech his team played in "The Rice Bowl" against the University of Akron *Bradshaw has donated his 4 Super Bowl rings, his Hall of Fame trophies, both college and pro, and his Championship trophies all to Louisiana Tech. *He put together a group to purchase the New Orleans Saints after Katrina when it was thought that it was possible that the NFL may want them to permanently move to San Antonio. Saints owner Tom Benson however was able to keep them and keep in in New Orleans. *Bradshaw is the ONLY former NFL player to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! The Gipper
Facts on Super Bowl QB Len Dawson: #The Alliance Ohio native chose to go to Purdue over Ohio State because he developed a friendship with a Purdue assistant coach by the name of Hank Stram. #Dawson was drafted by the Steelers but cut, then he was picked up by the Browns but lost out on the starting job to Milt Plum and was cut, so he decided to hook up with the Dallas Texans who were coached by his old friend Hank Stram, and the rest is history. The Texans won the AFL title their first year together and after moving to Kansas City won SB IV. # Perhaps most interesting however is that Len Dawson is the seventh son of a seventh son and thus by lore is imbued with certain mystical, magical powers be they divine from God or from the Devil. The only other well know 7th son of a 7th son is Perry Como: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seventh_son_of_a_seventh_son
The Gipper
Here are some facts on a couple of well known SB QBs: *In the 1979 Major League Baseball draft, the Kansas City Royals in the 4th round drafted a high school pitcher by the name of Dan Marino. In the 18th round of that same draft they picked a high school pitcher by the name of John Elway. Neither pitcher signed with the Royals. *Ben Roethlisberger is a FRAK. Though a native of Ohio, he idolized both Joe Montana and John Elway. However, he chose to wear #7 in honor of Elway rather than the 16 worn by Montana. *John Elway's son Jack played for Dennis Erickson at Arizona State Univ. Erickson was the offensive coordinator for John Elway's father Jack at San Jose St. The younger Jack Elway has since left the ASU program. *John Elway was a fraternal twin with a sister Jana. Jana died of lung cancer is 2002.

The Gipper
Facts on Super Bowl QB Jim McMahon #In the 1980 Holiday Bowl, McMahon's BYU Cougars played the SMU Mustangs featuring Eric Dickerson and Craig James. With 4 minutes left in the game BYU trailed 45-25, but in those 4 minutes McMahon's BYU team scored 3 TDs to win 46-45, the last play of the game being a game winning Hail Mary pass. #In his first meeting with his new professional coach, Mike Ditka, McMahon went into the meeting holding a beer in his hand. Ditka was not impressed. #McMahon now states that he has some memory loss issues that he attributes to concussions suffered in his playing days. #McMahon wore sunglasses a lot not just to appear cool. At age 6 he suffered a detached retina and since then he was sensitive to light. He was among the first NFL players to wear tinted visors. #McMahon was the backup QB for the Packers when the won the Super Bowl in 1996. But when he and the rest of the team visited the White House, he wore his Bears #9 jersey, which pissed off a lot of Packer fans. His explanation was that the reason he wore his old Bears jersey was because when the Bears were scheduled to go to the White House after the '85 season that visit was cancelled due to the explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger
The Gipper
On Joe Montana: *His middle name is Clifford. When he was making a spoof TV spot the producers thought that his real name already sounded like a made up stage name that was too "cool" so they wanted something more normal, so he called himself Joe Clifford. *It seems that Montana was bound for stardom and success. After all he went to "Ringgold" High School. *Montana now owns a winery in the Napa Valley that goes by the label Montagia. *The city of Ismay, Montana unofficially changed its name to "Joe". *Montana's son Nate is a backup QB at Notre Dame. He is not really expected to be a serious challenge for the starting job though. However... *Montana's son Nick is a redshirt freshman at the University of Washington, and was one of the most highly recruited QBs in the country and is expected to possibly become a star QB there. hoorta
how bout this the AVERAGE winning score of the Super Bowl champs is 31 points so much for defense winning championships How about an inferior defense can lose you a championship? A lot of the blowouts that ran up your point totals were against teams that made the SB on the strength of their offense. Denver? Oakland? Yup. ballpeen
how bout this the AVERAGE winning score of the Super Bowl champs is 31 points so much for defense winning championships Maybe so, but when you look at teams who usually make the playoffs and usually advance in the playoffs are the teams who are near the top in the most important team statistical category...scoring defense. If you are good there, you are going to be around for the end game. *End game doesn't have to mean the last game
LNC
Saw something the other night on ESPN that triggered a little searching by me. It was stated that only six WR's had been named Super Bowl MVP. Didn't sound right, so I went looking and checking. By God it is right. There have been seven RB's named MVP and QB's have been MVP 23 times, some of them multiple times (Montana/Bradshaw/Brady/Starr). There have been eight defensive players named MVP, and one KR (Desmond Howard SB XXXI). But this kinda startled me. You know who has the most MVP's? Ain't Pittsburgh, it's Dallas with seven. That's right folks, seven. How did that happen? Well, in SB XII Randy White and Harvey Martin were Co-MVP's so that gets them to six instead of five. But they also have the distinction of having the only MVP to be named from the losing team. Chuck Howley in SB V. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Bowl_Mo...le_Player_Award
