What's on the menu today??

Super Bowl usually means some extra preparation in the kitchens across this land, even if it is just prepping what you carry in, so what is on the menu at your home??

Here I have some shrimp and pork rinds for early munching. The main event is Cuban sandwiches.

The pork loin has been soaking all night in a marinade of oil, garlic, cumin, oregano, lemon juice, orange juice, vinegar, salt, pepper, and water.

Once cooked it will be sliced length wise for sandwich making.

The sandwich itself is the pork, salami, ham, dill pickle, swiss cheese, and yellow mustard, served on pressed Italian bread....heated and toasted in a sandwich press until the cheese melts.

To wash down, I skipped the light beer and will go with Sam Adams Boston Lager.

What are you folks planning??

I will be at a local establishment here in Fairview Park. They are having a buffet with a couple of big subs, meatballs, nachos, chili, pulled pork, soup, salad, and pasta. Should be a good time.

Oh yeah, GO PACKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ribs are my favorite. How do you cook them Cal? I know there are a couple ways.

I am going to my local Steeler bar down on the Outer Banks and root for the Packers (my second team), lived in Wisconsin for some time, some of my family still live there and are HUGE Packer fans.

Went to my pal's house- and it was bring your own chili. I did a boneless pork tenderloin slab on the grill with Texas barbecue sauce.

There was plenty of beer, and plenty of wine (mostly of the fruit bomb variety) zinfandels & syrahs. We celebrated the Packers win with champagne and a victory bottle of 1983 Cockburn Vintage Porto, which was definitely in my top 10 for best port ever.

Fruit bomb works well for me. I like a bold fruity wine to go along with the typical fare served at tailgates. You need something that holds up, and a big Zin holds up well.

Went to the SB party that WSS had, so it was kind of a pot luck deal on the food, and I decided not to bring a 'main dish" but a dessert. My wife, being from Wisconsin told me to take a traditional Wisconsin dessert: Dutch Apple crumb cake ala mode with cheddar cheese on the side.
