The Browns haven't announced which of their pending restricted free agents they will try to keep off the market, but an NFL source said that one of them is tight end Evan Moore.

Moore was given the second-round tender, according to the source. It is an indication of Moore's rising status in the West Coast offense under new coach Pat Shurmur. The second-round tender means a team would have to give up a second-round draft pick to sign Moore. It is worth about $1.9 million to Moore, who made the NFL minimum of $395,000 last year.

Moore technically is a restricted free agent, even though he has spent only two seasons on an active NFL roster and one year on an injured reserve list, said the source.

Moore led the Browns with a 20.1 yards per catch average last season, with 16 catches for 322 yards and one touchdown. He suffered a concussion in Game 2 against Kansas City and missed the last three games with a hip injury.

At the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis last week, Shurmur said pass-catching tight ends "are critical to the success of our offense." He said the team feels good about starter Benjamin Watson and remarked that Moore "is a good-looking player."

In 17 games with the Browns over two seasons, Moore has 28 catches for 480 yards for a 17.1-yard average.

The Browns have until 11:59 p.m. Thursday to give tenders to other restricted free agents, such as fullback Lawrence Vickers, linebacker D'Qwell Jackson, linebacker Jason Trusnik, safety Abe Elam, receiver Chansi Stuckey and cornerback Eric Wright.

Thanks for this.

Sure confirms that our last coaching staff was not pleasing the front office, even though I credit them for bringing Moore to Cleveland.

Moore was underutilized when healthy, and could be a remarkable asset as our new offense develops.

It's perfect. He either plays for us or we get a 2nd round pick from a team desperate for a pass catching TE. We could use the pick and I would love it if we could keep Moore. I would expect them to do the same thing for Jackson and possibly Vickers (who could have a 3rd or a 4th put on him, not a second).

The Browns just tendered Jackson.

CLEVELAND -- The Browns have extended a second-round tender to linebacker D'Qwell Jackson, a league source told the Plain Dealer.

It means that a team signing him in free agency would have to give the Browns a second-round pick under the current rules of the collective bargaining agreement.

Jackson, a sixth-year pro, would likely become an unrestricted free agent under a new labor agreement.

Jackson, who missed the final 11 games of 2009 and all of 2010 with two separate torn pectoral tendons, would be a great fit at inside 'backer in the Browns new 4-3 scheme, according to Browns general manager Tom Heckert.

Amounts for tenders have not yet been set, but players with five accrued seasons received one-year tenders of $1.809 million last season. The Browns also were believed to have tendered tight Evan Moore, a source said.

They were still working Thursday on tendering their other eligible players, such as Lawrence Vickers, Jason Trusnik, Chansi Stuckey, Abe Elam and Eric Wright.
