Even if an oil industry job in Alaska is the equivalent of what working in a GM plant used to be, this kid's range of opportunities just got much, much narrower. He's locked into this job, and he's screwed if he gets fired or suffers an injury. And it's important to emphasize that entering the workforce without a high school diploma (or even without a college degree) is no longer a viable option. Saying that this kid's going to be fine, or saying that it's his only option because black kids get all the financial aid, obscures the huge mistake he's made in dropping out of school. First off, an 'Art Director' is merely a position, it doesn't denote level at all. There are Senior Art Directors and Junior Art Directors. They just handle the art direction in the advertising we're working on. Second of all, I'm a Copywriter, not an Art Director. But we make the same hefty living as Art Directors. Third of all, Levi has to work in a fcuking oil field in Alaska for the rest of his life because he fcuked the wrong chick. Me, on the other hand, I get to work in a nice office in Los Angeles (or Manhattan or San Francisco or Paris or Amsterdam or London or, well, you get the point) and wear t-shirts and hemp shoes to work. I do agree with you Al, in todays job enviroment you need a degree to land a good job. a normal high school diploma today is equivalant to an 8th grade education from 20 years ago or so. I will say that you need an at least an associates degree to be equivalant of an high school diploma from 20+ years ago. Example: we moved to NC from Ohio back in 1996 my son was entering the 3rd grade he breased through school that year with outstanding grades. I asked him how he was able to do that, and he stated, Dad, all we did was the same stuff that we did last year back inthe 2nd grade in Ohio. the next year his mother and me pulled him from that school and were able to get him into a year round school and by his 5th grade year not just him but all of the kids in that class set a state record on their end of year testing by grading out at an average of a 96%. What we need to remember when helping young men and women when they have done something wrong, and are faced with having to do something that they have not been prepared for is that it isnt how hard you fall but it is how you are able to get back up. and with all of the negative attention these kids are getting it will not help them. We should respect the fact that they are a young married couple with a new child and should extend a hand in support and hope that they will be able to continue on with doing well in life. These attacks are from the jealous left wing media who are scared of Sarah Palin and will attack her and her family until they can throw enough mud that it will eventually stain her image. And mz the pussy good luck with your hemp shoes I hope that you dont try and smoke them. and maybe some day you will be able to live in Paris and feel wanted. you might want to try SanFransico they seem to be as close to Paris even on a poor mans budget. Plus you shouldnt knock the working man, it is that person who provides many luxuries in your life. I hope that Levi will be able to make enough money to provide for his family and also be able to attend a college somewhere. Who knows maybe it will be Syracuse. average pay for a copywriter $60000? not to bad if you live within your means. try owning your own business, you might be able to make more money. and when you own your own business you can wear shorts and t-shirts to work if you like.
