Mr. T
Rev. Jim Wallis, a member of President Obama's "faith council" who is described as a spiritual adviser to the president, is a socialist activist who has championed communist causes and previously labeled the U.S. "the great captor and destroyer of human life." Wallis was in the news last week urging Christians to stop watching Fox News host Glenn Beck's program for Beck's remarks against churches that preach "social justice." The Associated Baptist Press described Wallis as a "politically progressive evangelical and longtime advocate for the poor." The Huffington Post identified Wallis as a "Christian author and social-justice advocate." Wallis, however, is a longtime socialist advocate and founder of a far-left magazine, Sojourners, that has championed communist causes. Read more: Not again! heckofajobbrownie
Oh, God. This is hysterical. Jim Wallis. The most milquetoast preacher in America is a ...dangerous radical. Try upping the dosage, T.
Mr. T
Yeah heck maybe you need to lay off the stuff you have been smoking for years. Wallis began his activism as a protester when he joined Bill Ayers' Underground Weatherman in the 1960's. He sounds like someone who is right up your alley Heck. heckofajobbrownie
Am I saying what never happened? I'm saying Jim Wallis is hardly a radical, or dangerous, or anything but middle of the road Christian pastor. And he's now sitting on a bullshit council of "spiritual advisors." And so what.
Westside Steve
So? I hadn't heard dick about him. All I asked was did he make some controversial statements or not. I understand you don't think much of the site or T. Did they make it up? WSS
heckofajobbrownie
Yes, they did. Go read T's link. If it takes you longer than ten seconds to see what kind of bullshit innuendo and third-rate hack job that crackpot outfit just slapped on a webpage, let me know. Here's an example from the very first paragraph: WND: "Rev. Jim Wallis, a member of President Obama's "faith council" who is described as a spiritual adviser to the president, is a socialist activist who has championed communist causes and previously labeled the U.S. "the great captor and destroyer of human life." Wallis' actual book: "The Christian community must always be asking which of the powers are now most aggressively seeking to bring human life under their control. Discernment is the spiritual gift employed to understand where and how a particular power is on the offensive in the effort to impose conformity and slavery upon the lives of men and women. For us, the modern state is the great power, the great seducer, the great captor and destroyer of human life, the great master of humanity and history in its totalitarian claims and designs." And you can go through the rest of the piece and do that, too. Because it's a magazine for shitheads, Steve. Shitheads who don't know the difference and don't care to know the difference. Let's just come out and say it. No sensible person would ever get their news from World Net Daily, or listen to someone who gets their news from World Net Daily. Maybe you should stop protecting their lunacy with your silence.
Westside Steve
My silence? The Droid isn't opening websitres here. When I get to a strong signal I'll do a search. I asked since you have a track record of defending some pretty harsh left wing rhetoric and going ballistic on the counterpart. WSS
heckofajobbrownie
Yes, Steve. Of all the people who support harsh rhetoric in here, I'm the guilty one. I'm always saying that crazy shit.
Westside Steve
No, dear. Just what I said. Seems to me you tend to overlook the indiscretions of past radicals and spend a lot more time berating the right. That's all. WSS

Westside Steve
Radicals like... You guys think Obama is a radical. You think mainstream liberalism is radical. You don't even know what a radical is. Aww shucks Heck. They're the counterparts of the "hardcore right." Krystol Barnes Buchanan and the gang.. Possibly Jones Ayers etc are among the ranks. Anyway (though I see Cals looked further into this guy than me) I wasn't part6icularly outraged by the story and assume the "state" he refers is the US. I see he's a regular at the Huff and thought the Arizina law was a sin against something good and pure. He seems to be one of those old time (like the late sixties) lefty (socialist anti war social justice) preachers that mentored the SDS etc back when I thought those guys were cool. We had one from the American Friends or some such thing and the minister of the non denominal church where we held little kid peace and politics meetings. Oh well. That whole anti success or wealth thing is one reason I'm unable to be a good Christian. Seems to me Obama has a lot of these old hippies in camp. They don't bother me a lot but I've moved on from that political ideal, man.... Probably a campaign plan to keep the left's faux intellectuals in thrall. Maybe even........... Westside Steve
I kinda wonder Heck, why it's impossible for you to say the word socialist. It's not like the guy's a child molestor. At least answer a couple things honestly. Don't you think he was talking about America? Two do you think the Arizona immigration law is a great sin. We need Tom Tupa
I don't like Wallis much, but I would hardly call him a radical. His preferred social policies wouldnt raise eyebrows at all if he was catholic rather than protestant. I think he stretches scripture too much to support his politics, but his politics themselves arent all that nutty... just very liberal.
We need Tom Tupa
I'll admit that I didnt google him before posting this, but I'll also claim to have a reasonable basis for my opinion, as I've actually read a couple of his books and have followed his work for about a decade. Mr. T
There are a lot of good comments on this thread. To bad we dont have a thank you button. Some folks lean far left while others lean far right. The scarey thing is when you have one of them implementing changes in policies that will effect everyone. As long as they start thought crimes we should be ok and everybody can write Obama and Wallis off as 2 nut jobs. The only thing is they have the power to change policies and enforce what they desire. He's no more a radical than Bill Krystol is a right wing extremist but you know how it goes here. In this civilized country the far right and left aren't all that removed from the middle. And I'd guess that a big plank of what we call Chritianity today is socialism. (again one reason I can't get on board) And no doubt there are many of the clergy with similar beliefs. I don't begrudge them those beliefs and assume in most cases they're sincere. It's just not my cup of meat. ANd that's what ministers often do. They filter their socio political beliefs through scripture. Pat Robertson and the like are usually called worse than radicals. WSS
