THE BROWNS BOARD

This Week In The Afc North

The Browns got their first win of the Shurmur era last Sunday, and there is a feeling of promise in the air. The next test is beating a struggling team at home ... the Browns can not afford to start off 0-2 at home against lower-level teams ... this game could be a bellwether contest for the rest of the season.

The great thing about last week's win was that the guys that we are counting on to shine did indeed shine: Cribbs, McCoy, Hillis, Haden ... and the rookies got involved and held up their end ... promising.

What's more, the team is likeable. There were several seasons in recent history where I wouldn't have wanted to own a jersey of one single player on the team. But now, are best players exhibit the hard-working characteristics of Browns teams' past. Colt McCoy, Peyton Hillis, Josh Cribbs, Joe Thomas, Joe Haden, T.J. Ward, Scott Fujita, DQwell Jackson ... how can you not help but like these guys? I'm "all in" on this team, haven't felt this good about our roster since 1994 ... now let's get our defense playing like it is 1994.

San Francisco at Cincinnati 1:00 PM

It's an 1980's flashback weekend in Cincinnati, when Iggy was shuffling and Montana was dealing. Now the 49ers are shuffling out Alex Smith and the Bengals are dealing ... literally, out of their homes. Edge to the Niners who have been game both weeks, while the Bungles loss to the Broncos last week should be enough to start their inevitable tailspin... 49ERS 23 BUNGLES 14

Miami at Cleveland 1:00 PM

The Tony Sparano Death Watch is in full spin this week as the Dolphins try and get straightened out on the road. The team has some talent, including top-nocth receivers and linemen on offense and an above-average defense ... but they can't seem to find an identity, and it is make-it-or-break-it weekend as they can't afford to lose to Cleveland and go to 0-3. But they will, because the Browns are hungry for a home win and seemed to get everything clicking last week. The West Coast offense is going to be a hit on the North Coast ... Could be a Greg Little "coming out" party tomorrow. BROWNS 30 DOLPHINS 17

Baltimore at St. Louis 4:05 PM

The Rams have a tough early-season schedule, but if they are going to win their division they are going to have to rise up and win one or two of the tougher home contests. That opportunity could arise this weekend as the Ravens come to town fresh of a loss to the Titans where Matt hasslebeck exposed a suspect pass defense. Signature game for Sam Bradford? Why not. RAMS 26 RAVENS 24

Pittsburgh at Indianapolis 8:20 PM

The Steelers travel to Indy and could have their hands full after the Colts were embarrased at home last week by the Browns. A "must win" for the Colts, who are on the verge of letting their season slip away. Kerry collins finally seemed to be getting into sync with his receivers in the second half against the Browns, and if they can get enough pressure on Big Ben from Freeney & Co., we know that he will fold up like a pup tent in a wind storm. Colts surprise. COLTS 20 STEELERS 10

op you think like a little kid. You have the Browns demolishing every opponents they face ever week, then have the rats and pukes losing to God-awful teams, is this a joke?

I am 4-2 so far. Where are your picks, Nutbreath?

WOW, yur scores were a bit off but yur win/loss is 100%. And your prediction that Collins will suffer another career ending injury is so accurate that it's freaky.

A difficult week for all in the AFC North.

It's possible that everybody could lose, but that's not likely.

What's likely is for everybody to lose with the exception of BAL at home against the J E T S, leaving a hard-row-to-hoe for the rest of the division.

Actually, looking at this week's schedule, the Browns seem to perhaps have the "easiest" game at home vs. the Titans.

The Bengals have to take on the resurgent Buffalo Bills.

The Ravens have to deal with the always difficult Jets.

The Steelers go on the road to play the DATs in Houston, a team that has shown firepower.

Hey: can you say all alone in 1st place by 7:30 pm Sunday? Its possible!!
