The Gipper Posted October 30, 2008 Author Report Posted October 30, 2008 The Phillies World Series Title is that franchises first since 1980. (only their 2d in 126 years). There are currently 122 major league franchises in the 4 major sports (or 123 if you include the Seattle Supersonics franchise that is currently being held "in trust" or in limbo as were the Browns for 3 years). I am going to give you here the franchises that had waited as long or longer than the Phillies for a title. Where no title has ever been won by a franchise I give that teams Year of Origin (YO). In essence these are all the teams that have not won since 1980 or before: 1980 Dallas Mavericks YO 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates MLB Seattle Supersonics NBA 1978 Washington Wizards NBA (known as Bullets) 1977 Portland TrailBlazers NBA 1976 NY/NJ Nets ABA Seattle Seahawks YO 1975 Golden State Warriors NBA (known as San Francisco) Philadelphia Flyers NHL 1974 Washington Capitols YO Utah Jazz YO (in New Orleans) 1973 Miami Dolphins NFL New York Knicks NBA Indiana Pacers ABA 1972 Boston Bruins NHL Phoenix Coyotes YO (as Winnipeg Jets) 1971 Milwaukee Bucks NBA 1970 Cleveland Cavaliers YO LA Clippers YO (as Buffalo Braves) Vancouver Canucks YO Buffalo Sabres YO 1969 Kansas City Chiefs NFL Milwaukee Brewers YO (as Seattle Pilots) San Diego Padres YO Washington Nationals YO (as Montreal Expos) 1968 New York Jets NFL Cincinnati Bengals YO Phoenix Suns YO 1967 Toronto Maple Leafs NHL New Orleans Saints YO Denver Nuggets YO St. Louis Blues YO Los Angeles Kings YO 1966 Atlanta Falcons YO 1965 Buffalo Bills AFL 1964 Cleveland Browns NFL 1963 San Diego Chargers AFL 1962 Houston Astros YO (as Colt 45s) 1961 Chicago Blackhawks NHL Tennessee Titans AFL (as Houston Oilers) Minnesota Vikings YO Texas Rangers YO (as Washington Senators) 1960 Philadelphia Eagles NFL 1958 Atlanta Hawks (in St. Louis) 1957 Detroit Lions NFL 1954 San Francisco Giants MLB (in New York) 1951 Sacramento Kings NBA (as Rochester Royals) 1948 Cleveland Indians MLB 1947 Arizona Cardinals NFL (in Chicago) 1908 Chicago Cubs MLB The Gipper

The Gipper Posted October 31, 2008 Author Report Posted October 31, 2008 Love these stats Gipper! Who's got 13 football titles? Gotta love that. Doug Cleveland/Akron/Canton has these titles: 1920 Akron Pros NFL 1922 Canton Bulldogs NFL 1923 Canton Bulldogs NFL 1924 Cleveland Bulldogs NFL 1945 Cleveland Rams NFL 1946 Cleveland Browns AAFC 1947 Cleveland Browns AAFC 1948 Cleveland Browns AAFC 1949 Cleveland Browns AAFC 1950 Cleveland Browns NFL 1954 Cleveland Browns NFL 1955 Cleveland Browns NFL 1964 Cleveland Browns NFL That is 13, and by the way, that is more than any other city. Second is Green Bay with 12 football titles, then Chicago with 11.
