miktoxic Posted April 24, 2012 Report Posted April 24, 2012 and once again the giants making the best selection of the draft's first round. how much stronger can one team's defense get? love hightower.
TheClevelandSound Posted April 24, 2012 Author Report Posted April 24, 2012 and once again the giants making the best selection of the draft's first round. how much stronger can one team's defense get? love hightower. They have a dire need at middle linebacker. And they become very fortunate in my mock draft.
miktoxic Posted April 24, 2012 Report Posted April 24, 2012 They have a dire need at middle linebacker. we have needs at all LBs positions, but all we can talk about is richardson or blackmon. yeah i know those positions we need to but WHY? why is it so easy for teams like the giants, ravens, steelers and now the 49ers to complete their defense within a couple of years' drafts and continue to build on on it every year while we struggle to put out mediocre product every year with the amount and placing of our draft picks? i wouldn't mind if we just got a WR and RB with our first 2 picks and went defense the rest of the way. if richardson is so good we shouldn't waste a OL pick. period fill the position with what we've got and draft him next year right behind the QB we'll all be saying we need. because we ALL know defense wins championships.

Gocong: Emerging is a very solid OLB Fujita: Solid OLB (pending suspension) Jackson: ELITE MLB We draft based on needs. Linebacker is not a need that high in the draft.

Our defense finished the regular season ranked 10th in YPG. Our offense finished the regular season ranked 29th in YPG. Conversely, the NYG defense finished the regular season ranked 27th in YPG. The NYG offense, however, finished the regular season ranked 8th in YPG. You can't get it done only gaining 280 yards and scoring 13 points per game while giving up over 300 yards and 19 points per game. The offense has to catch up with the defense.

Linebacker is not a need that high in the draft. I respect your admiral attempt to make a point, but you're just as wrong as the poster you quoted. No way DQwell is ELITE. And, Fujita will probably not be starting this year regardless of any suspension. LB is a need of ours BUT offense is by far the greater need And, the phrase "defense wins championships" is quickly becoming outdated in the NFL
miktoxic Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 And, the phrase "defense wins championships" is quickly becoming outdated in the NFL yeah, ok.

He would be the #1 linebacker on every team except Chicago, Green Bay, and Baltimore.

thenew23 Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 Please explain to me how Jackson isn't elite. He would be the #1 linebacker on every team except Chicago, Green Bay, and Baltimore. I guess it depends on what you consider elite. I'm not ready to put him on a level with Lewis, Matthews, Urlacher, Harrison, etc... He's only played one full season, and played well, but not at a level that I personally would consider elite
MLD Woody Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 I don't see Floyd falling that far and if he did I think we would try to move up and get him
TheClevelandSound Posted April 25, 2012 Author Report Posted April 25, 2012 I don't see Floyd falling that far and if he did I think we would try to move up and get him That's quite possible, but it is pointless to create mock drafts with trades in them.
choco Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 Nice comeback. it was appropriate since you put your foot in your mouth. why respond to ignorance....when the point is lost on the target?
The Gipper Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 we have needs at all LBs positions, but all we can talk about is richardson or blackmon. yeah i know those positions we need to but WHY? why is it so easy for teams like the giants, ravens, steelers and now the 49ers to complete their defense within a couple of years' drafts and continue to build on on it every year while we struggle to put out mediocre product every year with the amount and placing of our draft picks? i wouldn't mind if we just got a WR and RB with our first 2 picks and went defense the rest of the way. if richardson is so good we shouldn't waste a OL pick. period fill the position with what we've got and draft him next year right behind the QB we'll all be saying we need. because we ALL know defense wins championships. Well said. I too believe that the need for LBs is as dire as the need for a WR/RB/RT. I suspect that the Browns may have to try to load up on some bodies with all those picks in later rounds to try to find a defensive diamond in the rough.
The Gipper Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 Gocong: Emerging is a very solid OLB Fujita: Solid OLB (pending suspension) Jackson: ELITE MLB We draft based on needs. Linebacker is not a need that high in the draft. My view is different. I think we have 2 significantly below average OLBs and one very average MLB. What was the Browns rank against the run last year?....and who is primarily responsible for containing the run: the LBs. These guys sucked swampwater.
The Gipper Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 Please explain to me how Jackson isn't elite. He would be the #1 linebacker on every team except Chicago, Green Bay, and Baltimore. Because on nearly every play he is either: A. out of position B. getting run over C. getting run around. Nothing he has done reminds of anything near the likes of a Mike Singletary/Jack Lambert/Ray Nitsche/Dick Butkus/Patrick Willis/Sam Huff/Mike Curtis/Vince Costello/Eddie Johnson...etc. etc. etc. all of whom, yes, I have seen play.

I said he was elite. Blue chip. Not hall of famer. You listed hall of famers. Bad comparison.
The Gipper Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 I said he was elite. Blue chip. Not hall of famer. You listed hall of famers. Bad comparison. OK, true, for some. I also listed good Browns MLBs like Costello and Johnson. That is one thing the Browns have never had....an elite, almost HOF caliber MLB. They have had a couple Pro Bowlers, like Mike Johnson and Tony Adamle...and Vince Costello. But never an elite one. And in my mind, DQJ pales in comparison to Mike Johnson who made a couple of Pro Bowls, imo.
calfoxwc Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 I don't like Wright at 22. He's a slot wr, I think. Frail in the NFL.... I'd draft Fleener, TE before him. @@

calfoxwc Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 Would you rather take Stephen Hill at that spot? I was back and forth between the two. ClevelandSound ************************************ I have a keen interest in Hill - but with what I've read... he is raw, and it would take some time for him. Meanwhile, I think Fleener could be an immediate impact starter.... Fleener is more like a taller, tougher wr with his speed. Hell if I know..... tomorrow is DRAFT DAY !
Tour2ma Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 That is one thing the Browns have never had....an elite, almost HOF caliber MLB. They have had a couple Pro Bowlers, like Mike Johnson and Tony Adamle...and Vince Costello. But never an elite one. Don't forget BamBam... Met Vince C. at the reunion event at Hiram College. Agree on DQ. He's a one-trick pony... speed. Always in chase mode. IF he has a lane he might get there and even look spectacular doing so, but if not... he's chasing down field. I still think he's better suited to OLB.
Butler Browns Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 Would you rather take Stephen Hill at that spot? I was back and forth between the two. I think Hill will be a very productive receiver. He's certainly got the size and the skills. He's just raw. Not a project, but raw. But you can't teach his combination of size, speed and agility. Foles at #4 and Hill at #22. Super Bowl in three or so seasons.
BendMeOver Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 I think the Vikings are taking Claiborne (a player I'd love to see in black and gold). I disagree with the Steelers selection, as I'm pretty sure I know who they want. I see the Steelers making a move up the boards to get him. If this mock draft is anywhere near accurate moving up would be stupid.

Not a project, but raw. But you can't teach his combination of size, speed and agility. Foles at #4 and Hill at #22. Super Bowl in three or so seasons. I hope Foles at #4 is a joke. You can get him in the 3rd or 4th round easily.
Canton Mike Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 Certainly Foles with the #4 pick HAS to be a joke! Maybe #4 ROUND, but I would wait until the 5th round for him. Tomorrow night, Friday night, & Saturday we will all know a lot more than we do now. Heckert & Co will do as they choose. We, as true Brown's Fans, may love or hate their choices, but we will STILL be Brown's Fans.....after all, that's what TRUE Fans do! I can't remember a draft with more speculation & interest than this one. It has been fun. Mike
TheClevelandSound Posted April 26, 2012 Author Report Posted April 26, 2012 Tomorrow night, Friday night, & Saturday we will all know a lot more than we do now. Congratulations! You are now Captain Obvious of The Browns Board! LMAO.
