Peppers wants 3-4

that's the guy we want. screw suggs; peppers is definitely not a product of a system. he's simply one of the best pass rushers in the league. no matter what it takes, even if he's the only free agent we sign, peppers should be our guy.

i would murder my grandmother to see him on the browns.

he's best suited for a one-gap 3-4, not the two-gap that we'll be running, but could hold up fine in the run game as a DE. he's played the run well in carolina his entire career when he was going against tackles. there's really no reason he shouldn't be able to continue that success when he's assigned to read and react.

when carolina called for him to drop into coverage a few times during his career, he was extremely effective. he's not stiff in the hips and can turn and locate the ball well when it's thrown. and, when he does get his hands on the ball, he's not only got the speed to take it back, but he's also got the power to bowl people over if they get in his way.

don't forget that he played basketball at north carolina as a power forward; he has serious ups and can outmuscle people for jump balls. no one plays at UNC if they're at all scrubbish. i disagree that his size is a disadvantage in coverage. if he weren't so fluid an athlete, it would be a liability, but peppers is so athletic that he can actually use his size to his advantage.

peppers could thrive at any position in the 3-4 aside from NT. he's a unique athlete; no one that big and that strong should possibly be that fast and that agile. he's the kind of player that a good DC would move around to create havoc and make the offense account for him on every play.

I'm struggling with his position in the 3-4. I guess he could be a DE and when we go to 4 he'd stay outside opposite Wimbley. Not sure how he'd hold up against the run at 3-4 DE, though... and he's too tall/huge to cover.

He would have to play WOLB (McGinest's position). Making Jackson more important in pass coverage and a very athletic safety very important. Once you start getting specialists in the 3-4, then others need to be more athletic to cover those specialists. Balt. gets away with Suggs's lack of coverage skills by having strong, fast ILBs and also Reed running all over the field.

I think Peppers would be great standing up and able to move around a bit, rushing from different points. Basically it would be a bastardized 4-3. You would never want him as a DE in the 3-4 system that the Browns will run. Mainly because it is a read and react position that holds the point of contact. You need big hogs like we have as DEs not pass rushers like Peppers. He might work as a DE in the one gap 3-4 scheme like the Cowboys run. But, isn't that what he is trying to get away from, a hands down rusher from one point.

He is quick and athletic and could easily handle the WOLB position. It would make Rogers a bigger impact because he pushes the middle of the pocket back and Peppers would apply pressure from the outside. Then you would need a more athletic, faster SILB with good coverage skills.

He wants to play OLB in the 3-4, Carolina will probably franchise him and then trade him so i dont see him coming here...

I don't believe the Panthers have the money to Franchise him and pay in $16 Million. They also have Jordan Gross their LT as a UFA and they will have to pay him a ton to keep him.

I agree with Jewdago, I would also murder my grandmother to see him here. The guy is an absolute beast. It doesn't matter what position he plays he will make plays no matter what. I'll never forget the sunday night game I saw one time, Panthers vs Falcons back when they still had Vick. He rolled out to his left and turned on the jets, Peppers ran with him stride for stride and rode his ass out of bounds for no game. You can't teach that, and you can't misuse that, it's pure talent plane and simple.

Get him.

I'll never forget how Peppers beat down Ryan Tucker like a pussy...GET HIM HERE!

Carey said ideally Peppers wants to play in a 3-4 defensive system where he can stand up and roam the field as a hybrid defensive end/outside linebacker, similar to how the Dallas Cowboys use DeMarcus Ware and how the San Diego Chargers have used Shawne Merriman in the past before his injury.

This is really strange. I understand Peppers wanting to be challenged, but do we really want to give him something like 6 years, $75M to play something that isn't his natural position? It only compounds the risk of giving him such a big deal.
