oldschoolfan64 Posted September 3, 2014 Report Posted September 3, 2014 Hi guys...I am Dallas fan and as you know, we just signed Michael Sam to our Practice Squad. I really don't think the guy is as good as many seem to think he is though. Many of his supporters keep pointing to the sacks on Manziel as proof he's a good football player, but I think he was simply being blocked by guys you may not even have on the roster anymore. Could you give me more info on the guys that were blocking Sam in that game? I know the sack where he threw up then "Money sign" was a terrible block. Was just curious who that O-Lineman was and if he is still on the Brown's roster. Thank You.
Guest Posted September 3, 2014 Report Posted September 3, 2014 He got by Martin Wallace (or Wallace Martin, I never did get it straight) who got cut. I think Gilkey was playing next to Wallace ... got cut. Zombo

Was just curious who that O-Lineman was and if he is still on the Brown's roster. Thank You. You're pretty much answering your own question. First one Sam was damn near untouched. The second, he had to work for a bit and I tip my hat. His speed of the edge has improved a bit since college, and a sack is a sack. He's a high motor, high character kind of player looking to prove himself. Its never a bad thing to have those guys on the practice squad.
oldschoolfan64 Posted September 3, 2014 Author Report Posted September 3, 2014 So a bit of both. Terrible blocking on one play and good effort on another. The only thing that bothers me about Sam's pre-season is that the Rams never gave him a chance to play against starters. We had a guy, Minter, that looked awesome against 2's and 3's...but when they played him against starters he was terrible.I'm just afraid that some of our fans are gonna get their hopes up about Sam and he then becomes a liability against starters. I appreciate the response guys...hope the Brown's have a better season than what my Cowboys are facing. Do me a favor...make sure the Steelers go down. I've hated that team since the 70's LOL.
oldschoolfan64 Posted September 3, 2014 Author Report Posted September 3, 2014 I just get tired of people claiming that, just because a player looked great in College, he's going to make it in the NFL. They pay no attention to scouting reports and only believe what their eyes tell them. It's easy to look good in pre season against guys who are selling Avon out of their Mother's basement during regular season, it's quite another to look good against starters.Johhny Manziel was one of those guys IMO. Looked awesome in College, but his skill set isn't interchangeable with the NFL. I was wondwering how he would make the transition from never having worked a huddle, never under center, and running so often against slower defensive players in college to the faste pace of the Pros. I think the same will happen with Sam..the game is just too fast for him.
oldschoolfan64 Posted September 3, 2014 Author Report Posted September 3, 2014 With Sam it will be "oh he didn't get a fair chance because he's openly gay" With Manziel it will be "I told you so" .....or....."the Browns didn't give him a fair shot". I think Sam has a better chance of being a legit NFL player than Manziel but neither of them are worth the circus. I agree...the Circus is all Jerrah seems to care about. I think that the only reason he took Sam is because he missed out on the Jersey sales from Manziel. We have some big trouble in Dallas, and his name is Jerry Jones. The man has been driving this franchise into the ground for 18 years now and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. As far as Sam is concerned, I think Jerry actually hurt this kid's chances. The CFL was already making him offers, and he most likely would have been a starter there. Instead, he'll sit around on our PS until Spencer and Lawrence come back from injuries and will have to be cut mid season. Hey, no one ever accuse Jerrah of being a brilliant GM.
Tour2ma Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 Hey, no one ever accuse Jerrah of being a brilliant GM. Unless you count Jerrah...
oldschoolfan64 Posted September 4, 2014 Author Report Posted September 4, 2014 Unless you count Jerrah... That's ONE vote. LOL
hoorta Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 If Sam isn't named the defensive player of the year each year for the next 20 years people will say he was mis-treated because of his orientation. He was probably given a better chance than most simply because he made a circus of himself prior to the draft......kinda like Johnny fuckup. Difference being Manziel was a pretty high profile guy coming out of A&M, and got drafted in the first round. Sams was a seventh round pick that's a high profile guy because of one thing- his sexual orientation. BSPN is sucking it up like a dried out mop. Really- any other seventh round cuts getting 20 minutes of airtime and having BSPN talking heads like Schlereth discussing what areas they need to improve on to make a 53 man roster??? I just get tired of people claiming that, just because a player looked great in College, he's going to make it in the NFL. I think the same will happen with Sam..the game is just too fast for him. Manziel is smart- and obviously not ready to take control of an NFL offense in the regular season. He'll get 10X the slack of Sams- because there's 10X the investment. Case in point would be Trent Richardson. If T-Rich was a seventh round pick, he'd already be out of the league pumping gas at Speedway.
miktoxic Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 sam was the defensive player of the year in the sec but in no way was his profile as large as manziel until he came out of the closet. i really don't see any backlash coming from sam's corner if he gets cut. now if something were to happen to JF, holy shit. there are still people saying tebow belongs in the nfl, imagine the manziel fans.
MLD Woody Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 People are overselling Sam? I must have missed that. He was too small for DE, too big for LB, ran a bad 40 and was a 7th rd pick. I must have missed where people were talking him up. That's not to say he didn't have a good preseason, and he showed promise. Tye Rams are stacked at DE, so I see where they're coming from. But if he slipped by EVERY team I would have been amazed. But yeah, he didn't get by the best of our guys

Wouldn't matter. Sam's 10 & 20 yard splits, shuttle and cone drill we're equally unimpressive. That's why he dropped like a stone.
