Vikings won it in 1969?

No, they won the "NFL title" that year, but lost the Super Bowl. For all intents and purposes, the NFL and AFL title games that were played in 66/67/68/69 are the equivalent of the current NFC/AFC conference title games.

By the way....The Browns lost 2 of those....1968 to the Colts who went on to the privilege of losing to the Jets in SBIII, and 1969 to those Vikings who went on to lose to the Chiefs in SBIV.

And in the previous 2 years, the Cowboys lost both years to the Packers.

I get you now, albeit the record books do count it, that's not one Id want to claim. How can you hold a title if you didn't win the final game of the year!

Precisely. What they can claim is that they won the NFL/NFC conference championship game.

And just to complete the info, while you have the NFL side of it, here is the AFL side:

1966 Chiefs over Bills

1967 Raiders over Oilers nka Titans

1968 Jets over Raiders

1969 Chiefs over Raiders
