You are going for Gene Bearden here but that is a bit subjective to call him the "best". Bob Lemon was considered the Ace of the staff and finished 5th in the AL MVP voting. Bearden did have more wins and lower ERA, but Lemon was higher in the "nerdy" stats ... Wins Against Replacement, Runs Against Replacement, etc. On a side note ...
