I have included the Seattle Supersonics as a separate franchise from the OK City Thunder as the Sonics are supposed to be simply an "inactive" franchise, not a defunct franchise or the same as the Thunder franchise. Just a note: though this is the Warriors franchise's first title since 1975.....10 other NBA teams have gone longer than the Warriors in wait for a title, including the Cavaliers, Jazz, Knicks, Pacers, Bucks, Clippers, Suns, Nuggets, Hawks and Kings.

Bottom line: More than 75% of all major league franchises have won titles or been formed since the Cavs were created (and a higher pct. since Cleveland won last title.

And let's look at the teams that have not won in over 45 years:

 

ALL 3 of Cleveland's teams fit in that category.

 

The only other cities that come close:

 

Buffalo's two current teams also fit....plus they had the "Braves" for 8 years in the NBA before they left town. No title since 1965

 

San Diego's two current teams also fit....plus they had the Clippers for a few years before they left town (and they may be losing the Chargers

 

Atlanta has two teams that fit, the Hawks and Falcons (but had baseball Braves win in 1995)

 

Houston sorta has two teams for a while: Astros, and Oilers before they moved in the 90s (but Rockets won in 1992)

 

Arizona sorta has two teams.....the Suns and the Cardinals....but the Cardinals only moved there in 1988 (plus D-backs won in 2001)

 

Clearly Cleveland is the "most frustrated" sports town in North American from a Pro team title aspect. Followed fairly closely by San Diego and Buffalo.
