Triplets

A follow up thread to comparison shopping:

Which teams have had Hall of Fame "Triplets". This generally means a QB, RB, and WR. Here are teams in history that have had that:

40s/50s Browns: Otto Graham, Marion Motley, Dante Lavelli

The 70s Steelers: Bradshaw, Franco Harris, plus Swann and Stallwort (quads!)

70s Dolphins: Griese, Csonka, Warfield

50s Rams: Waterfield or Van Brocklin, Tom Fears, Elroy Hirsch

90s Cowboys: Aikman, Irvin, Smith

90s Bills: Kelly, Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed

50s/60s Colts.....had an actual Quad: QB/RB/WR/TE: Unitas, Lenny Moore, Ray Berry, John Mackey

Here are some Non-tradition Triplets:

60s Packers: QB and 2 RBs: Starr/Hornung/Taylor

80s Chargers: QB/WR/TE: Fouts, Joiner, Winslow

Any others that I missed?

Here are some future possible Triplet HOFers:

90s/00s Rams: Marshall Faulk...in, Kurt Warner...likely in. Isaac Bruce...possible

80s 49ers: Joe Montana...in, Jerry Rice....in, Roger Craig....possible

00s Colts: Peyton Manning...certain to get in. Marvin Harrison...probable. Edgerrin James...possible?

00s Steelers: BR, Jerome Bettis, Hines Ward?

Any other possibles you can think of?

I don't think Roger Craig will make it in, but the niners will have a "nontraditional" from the late 90s ... Young/Rice/TO

And the Rams have a shot at a Quad ... Warner/Faulk/Bruce/Holt

But it may be a while to get both Bruce and Holt in, if it happens at all.

As a Steeler aficionado how could forget Jack Lambert, Jack Ham, and Andy Russell?

...unless we're only talking offense.

I was thinking that Rice and Owens didn't play together...but no, upon checking I see they did play several years together....so good one.

And I don't think Bruce should wait long at all. He is 8th all time in catches, 4th all time in yards, 11th in TD catches. His problem is competition....while he is worthy so aren't Harrison and T.O. who are both also eligible...or about to be.

Well, we were talking specifically about offensive skill players......but sure, we can include any team that had 3 HOFers on offense...including OL....and three on defense.

But your three won't work as Andy Russell is not HOF. Substitute Mel Blount and Joe Greene and you got a Quad.

If we add Offensive Linemen into the mix we get a few more Triplet combinations....but also a lot of adds on the the Triplets we already mentioned:

Add Frank Gatski and Lou Groza to Graham/Lavelli/Motley

Add Jim Ringo and Forrest Gregg to Starr/Hornung/Taylor

Add Jim Langer and Larry Little to Griese/Csonka/Warfield

Add Jim Parker to Unitas/Berry/Moore/Mackey

Add Mike Webster to Bradshaw/Harris/Swann/Stallworth

And here are a few other....non-traditional Triplets:

Jim Brown/Paul Warfield/Gene Hickerson for Browns

And before Warfield came on you had JB/Hickerson and Bobby Mitchell.

Warren Moon/Mike Munchak/Bruce Matthew for Oilers

Roger Staubach/Bob Hayes/Rayfield Wright for Cowboys

Fran Tarkenton/Ron Yary/Mick Tinglehoff for Vikings

YA Tittle/Frank Gifford/Roosevelt Brown for Giants

John Elway/Shannon Sharpe/Gary Zimmerman

One we missed from before: 60s Redskins (between 64-68): Sonny Jurgenson/Charley Taylor/Bobby Mitchell

And figure this one: A triplett OL all of its own: Jim Otto/Gene Upshaw/Art Shell for Raiders/plus Caspar and Biletnikoff...and Blanda at backup QB/K

Or, how about this one: Joe Montana, Steve Young, Jerry Rice all on same offense.

I will let you all come up with defensive triplets.
