BaconHound
I've seen that. I believe it. Take a look at the demographics of the state. The dirt poor and uneducated voters of the states that receive the lion's share of welfare are still, thankfully, a minority. BaconHound
My friend I think we are arguing apples versus oranges. WSS My point was very simple the states that receive the most food stamp assistance were won by a Republican in the 2012 Presidential Campaign. That does not mean that they are the majority of the voters in those states. How is that not clear? WSS The point is, to the best of my knowledge, there isn't an exit poll asking food stamp recipients who they voted for. There are statistics that show these poorer states tend to lean Republican. Without getting too jerky, some poor people may be getting a check but they are still motivated by the GOP socio-political ideals that gays shouldn't marry, we shouldn't kill babies and minorities should know their place. When you look that stats I posted not only are many of the states lacking in education and wealth more than half are very religious. Poor, uneducated people don't always vote with their best interest in mind.

WSS That may be the case in urban areas but I know that in the last 15 years that WV has voted exclusively for conservative candidates. This state is packed full of welfare worms and people getting disability checks for mystery ailments. The city I work in has 6 out of 10 living on the dole. They just increased taxes again because they can't keep services up with so little money coming in. I am moving after the first of the year. Oh trust me, being originally from East Ohio I'm aware of that but among their particular demons is John Kasich whom they blame for tightening up the oxy prescription process as well as the easy path to disability. They hate Republicans worse than they hate any other minority. And if I'm not mistaken the governor of West Virginia, Joe Mansion, (sp?) is a democrat right? But I think the graph I posted from the Atlantic settles the issue. And it's not from the blaze lest the boards liberals complain. WSS

He came out in favor of gun control and the people here flipped out. He doesn't do speeches here unless it is to a predetermined audience. LogicIsForSquares
So it's Earl Ray Tomblin another democrat? WSS He has a D behind his name. The guy was placed into office by Manchin upon deciding to bail on being a governor and take Byrd's place. Tomblin was elected in 2012 after that and just basically exists. The only thing that he has done that I can remember during his whole time in office was vetoing the constitutional carry bill after it was passed by a republican controlled state house and senate. I expect a republican to take the spot from him. Capito just recently won the other senator spot and I expect Manchin to be replaced in the next election. LogicIsForSquares
As the state goes further into the can, even the welfare leeches are voting Republican. I don't think they consider the free shit so much as they are really socially conservative. I think they just take it for granted that they will always keep receiving the freebies no matter who they elect.
calfoxwc
To a degree, they may be true, and may not be. I remember an old guy who said he had to vote for kerry, because he ...heard...that George W. was going to slash social security benefits for those already getting them. and the emotional manipulation of uneducated voters goes on, worse each election. So too, goes benefits. They don't want to have to work for free stuff, they don't want to be drug tested for free stuff.... and they don't want to have to show their id anymore. That's a ref for illegals being given a free ride, for votes
