Clevfan4life
When everybody just put their hands down that's supposed to have their hands down? And Mingo was starting to actually show some signs of being a potentially disruptive 4-3 OLB'er? Maybe I just saw things but it seemed like our edges were holding up better against the run than in the 2nd half. Maybe they were tired, but it seemed to drop off right as the 2nd half started. Maybe there's another reason I dunno, it just seemed like in the 1st half things looked simpler and our guys were playing with more leverage against the run. Not that we were all over Foles but we were definitely setting the timer lower. Kruger actually looked like he was a cunt hair late on having at least 2-3 sacks in the 1st half, getting some nice parting shots on Foles. Why did that let up in the 2nd half? I saw that in the 2nd half that Orchard got most of the playing time. Armonty and Kruger were nowhere to be found unless i'm mistaken. It wasn't until the 4th quarter was well underway that I started seeing some of those guys again. But by then the game was pretty much already over so what was the point if you wanted to see what Orchards got?
BaconHound
I think this defense goes through "smoke and mirror" periods where the other teams offensive ineptitude, see St. Louis, Denver & Tennessee, allow us to think they are playing at a high level. Clevfan4life
I wanted to go back through the game and analyze why Gurley only got 30 or 40 yds in the first half, but said fuck it i dont' want to watch this shit again once was enough and erased the tape. But can someone else decipher why we did better in the 1st half and for maybe part of the 3rd quarter? The differences i saw were personnel and some formational stuff. Like we started putting Starks on the outside and Orchard as the other DE. Than we started to revert more to the regular 3-4 looks we've been showing most of the season and it was junk. I just want to understand why we moved away from what we were doing in the 1st half.

Tour2ma
StL only had the ball about 11:46 in the first half... Longest drive was 6 plays and it ended with the Poyer forced fumble.
Browns149
seems like the Browns are not willing to make tackles. They bounce off and try for big hit, without wrapping up. The defense is old and over paid. And now we are stuck with these losers
thenew23
Effort... After the Benjamin fumble, the defensive effort slowed down... It's hard to play at such a high level when you offense isn't scoring points, and keeps putting your back against the wall... I don't blame the D for collapsing late in the game... they had no spark from the other side of the ball...

gftChris
No shit, this has been the way for years, our team is pumped up after a good week of practice, the D makes some plays, but usually by the third or fourth quarter we find a way to beat ourselves, and the heads drop. There's no confidence in the team, and (I'm not certain but it seems like) a lack of adjustment. I don't remember the context of the quote, but it went something like "the browns a re a tough team, they'll play hard, but if you hang in there, eventually they'll find a way to beat themselves" - it seemed last year that we were trying to shake that off. Turns out we just got lucky, playing the NFC south on a down year, and we're returning to normal now.
darkside5
I still say strength and conditioning is the major problem. This franchise is soft on both sides of the ball and have been for years. You want to fire someone, fire the strength and condition coach.

Might as well ask the question here, does each coach bring in his own strength and cond. staff? Or are they hired by the FO and survive multiple coaching changes? I don't think this can be understated here. The Rams before Gurley was inserted were almost last in most offensive categories and while it seems he's a good player he dominated the 2nd half. I cringe thinking about this defense will fair against Pitt with Ben back all but likely and the Cincy offense being so strong.
