What expansion teams became a part of the AFCC/N at some point? Browns, Bengals, Browns and Jaguars. I only count the Jags.....as the Bengals were an expansion team in the AFL, prior to the AFCC/N being formed....and the Browns were never an expansion franchise...they only went through an expansion like draft to fill the roster after being inactive. (but, even with that, there is another) 5. What geographic distinction does the current AFCN lineup hold vis a vis all other current NFL divisions? All cities are on navigable waterways? No, I imagine that several divisions have it where all cities are on navigable waterways. (AFC East is....NFC North is..) 6. Name the lineup of teams that were in the AFCC/N in the 1997 season. The Gipper
Here are questions about the history of the division the Browns have been in since the NFL/AFL merger in 1970 when the Browns joined the AFC Central.....which has now been renamed the AFCNorth (I may use the names interchangeably or AFCN or AFCC/N: Answers, all of which were gotten but a couple: 1. What was the name of the division of the NFL that the Browns (and Steelers) came from in the 1969 season just before the merger happened? The NFL Century Division....which actually had a couple of alignments: In its last year it was: Brown/Steelers/Giants/Cardinals. In the previous year the Saints were in, Giants out. But FYI: The Browns/Steelers/Cardinals were always in the same division from the time the Browns joined the league in 1950 until 1969 2. What team or teams of the current AFCN lineup is the only team to have played in the AFL? The Bengals were an AFL expansion team in 1968. FYI, Paul Brown actually hated the AFL...and he agreed to take ownership of that team only because he knew in two years they would be merged with the NFL 3. Who won the very first AFCC/N title? The Cincinnati Bengals. With an 8-6 record. Browns were 7-7 that year. 4. What expansion teams became a part of the AFCC/N at some point? The Jacksonville Jaguars joined the AFCC in 1995....and the Baltimore Ravens joined in 1996. No one got the Ravens.....how the fuck could you all forget the Ravens? 5. What geographic distinction does the current AFCN lineup hold vis a vis all other current NFL divisions? It is THE most closely compact division in the NFL. The furthest distance apart of any two cities is the 586 miles between Baltimore and and Cincinnati. AFC East....having Miami in puts teams over 1000 miles apart. AFC South. Indy to Houston is over 1000 miles. AFCWest (Hell, they are all probably further apart than AFCN (actually...no....closest there is Oak to SD....490 miles) NFCE.....Dallas makes this division disparate. AFCS it is over 700 miles from N.O to Charlotte. NFC central may be next closest: Detroit to Minn. is 693 miles.....still more than 100 miles more than Cin. to Balt. And in the NFCW...hell, Seattle's closest team, San Fran is over 800 miles away. 6. Name the lineup of teams that were in the AFCC/N in the 1997 season. In the middle of when the Browns were inactive: Steelers/Bengals/Jaguars/Ravens/and Oilers (still known as Oilers) 7. Which AFCC/N team(s) won the Super Bowl that did not win the AFCC/N title. (Wildcard)? (give team and @ year) 2000 Ravens, and 2005 Steelers. Steelers won the division all years in the 70s when they won SB....and they won Div. in 2008....as did Ravens in 2012. 8. What city had an AFCC/N team play there for just one season? Memphis.....when the Oilers moved to Tenn. they played in the Liberty Bowl in Memphis for a year. before moving on to Nashville. This was in that 1997 season 9. In AFCC/N history, what team had the best record to start a season? Team and @ year This year: 2015 Bengals 8-0 10. What is the best record ever achieved by an AFCC/N team? Team and @ year. 2004 Steelers 15-1. Yes, BR's rookie year. 11. What is the worst record that has ever won an AFCC/N titles? Team and @year 1985 Browns 8-8 12. What is the best record ever achieved by an AFCC/N team that did not win the division (made Wildcard). Team and @year 1999 Tennessee Titans were 13-3.....but the Jags were 14-2 to win the AFCC. Best record ever by an AFCC/N wildcard team. Browns first year back...were 2-14. The rest of the division: Ravens 8-8, Steelers 6-10, Bengals 4-12 13. Name all the years that the Browns have won the AFCC/N title. 1971, 1980, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1989 14. Name all the years that the Browns have qualified as a Wildcard team. 1972, 1988, 1994, 2002......plus you could count the 1982 Browns who made the 8 team AFC playoff round in the strike shortened season. The Gipper
or participate in an expansion draft..... Never heard of an expansion team with a full roster and FO already in place...... They are an expansion franchise.......everything everywhere you read about it acknowledges that.....including the official NFL documents....including the Baltimore Ravens franchise. The Baltimore Ravens franchise began in 1996. Show me anything.....other than fan/media opinions that say otherwise. (and...Fyi.....beyond that....they didn't have a full roster in place.......and only a few FO people. ONLY their new owner and their PR guy were in place.....but those are all beside the point. The Gipper
You know how... How can the Ravens be an expansion team when it did not add to the total number of teams in the league? Except.....it DID add to the total number of teams in the league. People came to work every day....etc. etc.

The Gipper
lol... a franchise without a team... quite a concept. Seriously? Where have you been the last 20 years. It wasnt the first time....or maybe the last time it happened. The Cleveland Rams did it in 1943. The Steelers did it in 1943 and 1944. Those were the war years. For a while I believe that the Seattle Supersonics was considered an "inactive" franchise of the NBA....and that an attempt to replenish that franchise could be made. But that seems now to have gone by the wayside. The Sonics/Thunder is now considered to have been one continuous franchise. But, apparently, currently, besides the Browns....another football franchise had a similar path....though it is CFL: In two cases, a franchise has revived a team that was inactive, and has been granted the rights to the previous team's history: The Cleveland Browns were a professional football team from 1946 until owner Art Modell moved the club to Baltimore in 1995. However, in a deal with the NFL and the City of Cleveland, the team was declared inactive for three years until a new expansion club, under the old name and colors, was established in 1999. The new Browns are considered a continuation of the old franchise.[2] The Montreal Alouettes are named after an earlier franchise which became defunct in 1981. The Baltimore Stallions, which were formed through expansion, relocated to Montreal after playing in Baltimore from 1994 until 1996. The CFL considers all clubs that have played in Montreal since 1946 as one franchise in their league records, including those of the original Alouettes (1946–1981), Montreal Concordes (1982–1985) and Montreal Alouettes (1986). The Alouettes and the CFL, however, do not recognize the Baltimore franchise, or its records, as part of the official team history.[3] References[edit] Jump up^

The Gipper
I knew we should have gone after the Alouettes to get even with Baltimore... Hmm.....a Cleveland team in the CFL...interesting. Though really if there is any American city that could be good for a CFL team it is probably Buffalo The only other NFL city that borders Canada is Detroit.
