THE BROWNS BOARD

If I Wasn't a Browns Fan, This Might Almost be Funny

A couple general thoughts:

  • The years with the worst loss luck seem to be 2001, 2002, and 2007…which happen to be three of the four years where the Browns managed a 7-9 or better record (2014 is the fourth). This at least somewhat stands to reason Pythogarean-ically, since you would expect more close games from a team who scores and gives up about the same number of points as opposed to a team who averages a three-score loss every game.
  • The Browns have had a lot of really bad offenses. There are really only a handful of shootout losses, and most of those seem to involve the Browns losing from ahead rather than falling just short in a comeback.
  • On a related note, the Browns have been shut out 13 times in 16+ years. Many of those were in the first couple of years back, but it’s still been a fun run of offensive ineptitude.
  • The Browns have lost to their current division rivals a total of 71 times (PIT: 27, BAL: 24, CIN: 20) for ~40% of their losses; since division games now make up 37.5% of the schedule, their run of ineptitude within the AFC North is particularly notable.

Ouch.

How about this:

List the top 5 or 10 Browns wins of the post 1999 era. Harder or easier to do?

Some candidates:

A. The 25 point comeback vs. Titans.

B. Beating Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh in 1999.

C. Beating Atlanta to make the playoffs in 2002.

D. Beating Baltimore in OT in the "Stanchion Rule game".

E. Beating Saints in Tim Couch Hail Mary

F. Beating Steelers in the cold...sacking BR a ton of times...and knocking them out of the playoffs (which year?)

G. Pounding the hell out of the Patriots. Peyton Hillis's big game.

H. Beating defending SB Champs Giants.

I. Shutting out the Bills in a blizzard.

So, there were a few good moments.

Didn't we also beat the defending super bowl champ saints with the big ass punter running like 40 yards?

Sorry to burst your bubbles but the Browns didn't really "knock the Steelers out of the playoffs" in 2009. The Steelers needed to win their last 3 games and had to rely on help.

They won their last 3 going 9-7 but didn't get the help from other teams winning/losing. The best the browns did was to take away the Steelers controlling their own destiny.

Sorry to take that one away from you but you still have Turkey Jones slamming Bradshaw in 1976 and the 51-0 rout of the Steelers in 1989 to hang your hats on lol!

The Ghost of seasons Past. Memories of things that never happened. There's always next year! Even Drew Carey said he's done caring. He's right. Until they put a legitimate product on the field the fans should stop paying and agonizing. Life is too short.

The Steelers got beat by a bad Browns team......had they beaten that bad Browns team that year, they would have made the playoffs. You can make whatever excuses you need.....but the Browns knocked them out.

And we hang our hats on our 13 Championships. Call us when you reach half that number.
