Pumpkin Eater
so the patriots have been implicated in another cheating scandal involving the organization paying a company Tom Brady co-owns for "services". These guys cheat so much the NFL won't be able to make it go away soon.

wargograw
I always wondered why more teams don't do this. I mean, in college, they're looking for every way imaginable to funnel more money to the players, and they find those ways.
Opal312
Another borderline business the Patriots are involved in. It might be legal but is it ethical?

jiggins7919
I've never cared what the Patriots do. To me, they never stop searching for an advantage, and if it's against the rules...so what. Take one of our 6th round draft choices, or fine my billionaire owner a million dollars. Ho-hum. It DOES bother the ethical side of my brain, but whatever.
Mudfly
So....Brady taking less $ to help his team might not be true?......he just gets it funneled through the back door?.... Interesting....
calfoxwc
That's a great, against-the-rules way of beating the salary cap, isn't it?

jrb12711
A key line from that article: "The NFL says it is aware of the arrangement and has taken no action, despite questions from some specialists in sports law and economics about whether teams should pay for services by for-profit companies owned by their active players and whether the relationship provides value to Brady that should be counted against the club’s salary cap." It may be unethical but I'd bet my bottom dollar it's not breaking the rules.
Pumpkin Eater
The NFL also destroyed the patriots cheating library in a private room in Gillette stadium before anyone else could see it so...
The Gipper
so the patriots have been implicated in another cheating scandal involving the organization paying a company Tom Brady co-owns for "services". These guys cheat so much the NFL won't be able to make it go away soon. This though it would seem would have nothing to do with the on field game......Just a money issue. But lets ask this.....if player A owns Company X that provides widgets.....and Team B....for whom player A works need widgets, why would it be improper for team B to buy its widgets from Company X. Where is the conflict of interest? Is there a rule prohibiting this kind of arrangement? If so, why? It all seems pretty up front to me......unless something else is going on. The Gipper
So basically the Pats have end run the salary cap? Not if a legitimate service is being provided by the company the player owns. For all we know that company could be completely unprofitable. The Gipper
Yep. It is illegal under the terms of the latest collective bargaining agreement. If it is against the rules.....then it is just a rule being broken.......Not a legal statute or ethical tenant.
