Joe Thomas has joined an elite group of players to have been selected to the Pro Bowl in their first 9 seasons.......ONLY Lawrence Taylor, Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, and Mean Joe Greene hold that distinction. The Gipper
Here are this week's Survey questions. Give your opinions. 1. Who was the worst Head Coach in Cleveland Browns history? Bill Belichick.....ggggg!!! (actually, he has had more losing seasons than any other Browns HC....but he was allowed to hang around longer) Pre "Move" was probably Nick Skorich.....but he was a good coach compared to some that came later. (Skorich: 30-24-2) Chris Palmer has the worst record....but he can be forgiven as he was given a team from scratch. Really....I think everyone has it right: Pat Shurmur.....he was clueless. (But Mike Pettine is proving to possibly a close second) 2. If you say that Alex Mack did not deserve his Pro Bowl slot.....who would you have replaced him with? These few OCs were left off the PB roster for some reason.....some of which may be due to injury, but these....in general could arguably be said to be in Mack's class: Mike Pouncey Pitt....injured Max Unger....Seattle....??? Nick Mangold...Jets....???? can I assume he is injured? Dan Koppen...Broncos..???? Eric Wood...Bills..??? Mack may be deserving....but this was NOT his best year by any means. But these other guys have near the same rep as him....why did they not get in. 3. Will Brandon Weeden lead the Texans into the playoffs? YES he will......if Hoyer does not recover. Texans make it because even with Weeden they are better than the other teams in that division. He won't win a playoff game....if he plays. What is Hoyer's status? 4. Joe Thomas has joined an elite group of players to have been selected to the Pro Bowl in their first 9 seasons.......ONLY Lawrence Taylor, Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, and Mean Joe Greene hold that distinction. Is it fair to say that Joe Thomas....despite being on bad teams, is one of the greatest players of all time? I think it IS fair to say that he will be considered one of the best ever....despite the losing. See the list below of players that have made 10 or more PBs 5. What are you expecting Santa Claus to bring you? Expecting and wanting are two different matters. I have been asking him for a trench coat for some years.....I do not expect to get it this year. I will get a shirt that I don't want or need. I will get deodorant in my stocking (but at least I can use that) I expect I will get some socks. I expect a winning lottery ticket.....but will be disappointed I am sure. What Big Red Santa WILL get me are a couple of trips to destinations that I want to go. (that is because I am Big Red Santa...and I will be the one booking them).

cdl15
No love for BITCH Davis. I believe it was his actions alone that have made us suffer over the last decade or so. The browns went from a young expansion team to record New lows that this team is still trying to recover from. Yea shurmer was bad but I believe heckert and Holmgren had failsafes in house to replace him almost seamlessly. (Oc and Dc coordinators). Removing those guys was Haslems first and biggest fuck up, to date.

The Gipper
Putney Swope is a classic black and white modern era movie. The movie centers around a corporation that has to choose a new CEO because the existing one died unexpectedly. In the board room the camera pans around the table from one executive to the next, and in an echoing voice, the viewer gets to hear the thoughts of each one while they ponder who they will vote for. To a man, their individual thoughts are revealed to be the same. 1) None of them want the position, none of them want to be a part of voting for any other candidate. The view gets to hear them say, "I won't help that sonofabitch to get elected. 2) We then get to hear each of them ponder "who the hell can I vote for that nobody else will"? "How can I vote and not worry about having responsibility for the next CEO?" 3) One-by-one, all the execs come to the same conclusion... "I will vote for Swope.....the black guy....nobody is going to vote for that ass hole" 4) By unanimous decision...............Putney Swope is elected CEO. Joe Thomas Is Putney Swope. Whether you like it or not, the NFL is a big political.boardroom/politically correct pile of horse shit. They disseminate propaganda and gullible fans, that would ESPECIALLY be Browns fans, gobble it up. The fact of the matter is Joe Thomas is a decent player, not a great one. However, since 1999 the Browns do not have one single sustainable success story with which the NFL can take pride in itself with this team. JOE THOMAS is the Putney Swope of the NFL. If he played for New England, he would be recognized at his true level, just another B grade LT. He isn't Oher caliber. He plays on a team where there is no spotlight. There is simply no other highlight to focus on. Joe Thomas is Putney Swope. I always maintained that Kosar was also Putney Swope. The man had heart and courage, nobody can take that away from him. BUT, I always thought he was a mental midget. Calling him the most intelligent QB was like bragging about the titty bar dancer who you just learned was also a college student working on her Ph. D in cell Biology. No announcer could, with any credibility compliment Kosar's athletic prowess, so they fabricated bullshit about his intelligence. Post NFL, we can see now that Ol' Ghoolie was again prolific, and the media was creating yet another Putney Swope. Dude, I don't dislike Joe Thomas. What I lament is that this team is a joke, a disgrace to all that the Browns used to be, and here we are mentally masturbating about a fucking LT. And at that, one who is over rated. Oher didn't just protect the QB, he knocked guys on their ass on running plays. He was good at helping the outside running game. Joe Thomas is not that caliber of player. He IS fast, quick and has great balance. A great QB protector? I'll accept that. But a HOF caliber player? Putney Swope. That's what he is. By the way................. can I make one more pitch for Santa to bring me the Carbon Face Breitling Chronomat 44 with a pilot Bracelet? Interesting analysis. I think you are wrong about both JT and Kosar.....only being propped up because we have no one else better to hang our hat on. But it is an interesting analogy.....for which I believe there well may be someone out there that fits the analogy. And the first place I would look would be the Browns GMs and HCs over the last 15 years. There is where I think you will find your Putney Swopes. I do note that you did not say how well Swope did in his CEO job. Maybe he did great? I am going to have to get that movie and watch it though. Unsympathetic
He isn't Oher caliber. I agree. Oher sucks. Oher is on his 3rd team in the last 3 years, and is about to be replaced at the end of this year. Oher wishes he was Joe Thomas' caliber.

Tour2ma
Joe was a foundational pick... same as any LT. And he has been a great one. Anyone with a hint of ability to judge talent knows this. That the Browns' organization has failed to build upon him is not Joe's fault.
BaconHound
Here are this week's Survey questions. Give your opinions. 1. Who was the worst Head Coach in Cleveland Browns history? Chris Palmer 2. If you say that Alex Mack did not deserve his Pro Bowl slot.....who would you have replaced him with? Don't Care 3. Will Brandon Weeden lead the Texans into the playoffs? No 4. No 5. What are you expecting Santa Claus to bring you?
