THE BROWNS BOARD

This country is finished. Period. It's over.

To be fair, you ask a bunch of psychology majors, you expect that response. Most of them are like "oh my god, I *love* talking with my besties, I'm such a great listener, I should be a therapist or some shit!" rather than actually understanding anything.

Also, Texas Tech. Go to MIT or Harvard or, you know, a college that actually produces people who have an impact on the country, and you'll get smarter people.

That being said, a lot of people are just dumb. And yet everyone has a right to vote...

It should be covered, yes. But you could ask people of a similar age here, who was prime minister for world war 2, and they'd struggle. They'd probably struggle with knowing who the prime minister is now. Or what world war 2 was.

That is no less depressing. These kids are in college. They are supposed to be the best and brightest etc.

That's an outdated concept. How many kids are going to college these days? 30%? 40%? 50%? Best and brightest stretches to the top few percent at most. These kids are not that.

I'm not saying that's how it should be, btw. It's how it is.

A prime example of the self absorbed pussies of the millennial generation. Know it all (really nothing) pussies who want everything handed to them and be recognized for participating. They blame any problem on the much more intelligent and hard working people over 50. May the millennials all go fuck themselves. :)

This was Texas tech... I lived out in Lubbock for a while. Definitely not your best and brightest crowd out there.

As for millenials.. it pisses me off that I'm lumped in with a great bunch of Retards like them just because I was born in 87. Seriously pisses me off

The civil people won won the civil war and the uncivil people lost. :)

Seriously it has to come back to what is not being taught in our schools. These young people are smart enough but if they have never been taught these things who do I blame? Our education system.

It's almost like there should be some minimum set of curriculum that's taught across the country, a core of knowledge that every kid should have, common across all states, from Oregon to Florida and everywhere in between.

It makes me wonder about what is being taught or not taught. The history I learned from elementary school 50 years ago I still can remember those stories about Davy Crockett, Johnny Appleseed, the Civil war etc......is that not being taught anymore? I don't believe these young people forgot about history classes but it is obvious it was just never taught to them.

Exactly! We need standards, we need to make sure all of the young people of today are taught these things, that they aren't left behind because they live in some backwater town in one of those right angled states nobody cares about!

can someone give me the cliff notes on the video, I can't watch it at work. Gimme a rundown of the questions that were missed.

Who is the vice president? Who won the Civil War? Who did we gain our independence from? What year did we get it? etc.

They bombed the hell out of the questions but killed all of the questions like "What show was Snookie on?" and "Who is Brad Pitt married to?"

I'm with you except I think the problem is deeper than poor rural school districts. There are big inner city schools that are horrible as well. Even in affluent school districts I question how much history is being taught as many of the college students who know little about history are coming from affluent school districts. I would not be opposed to some standards on these things as it obviously seems needed.

So you agree, common core is needed! no child left behind!

But seriously, common core, or whatever you want to call it so it isn't what Obama would do, is definitely needed. History isn't different in different states. Or math, science, music or anything. Being in a different state should not consign you to a worse education.

I remember once when I was a probation officer having a probationer who could not read or write and yet graduated from High School (back in the 90's). How does something like this happen? I don't know enough about common core but I see a problem with young people today not knowing the minimum about history which shows a failure in our schools.

There is a problem with some in acedemia. It seems to me, of leftist professors I've had,

and several I've heard of...

that with the left, there is no greater ego-rewarding, pseudo-intellectual pursuit,

than hating America, refusing to teach true American history, but rather teaching

all that is anti-American family values, and anti-American principles.

The first time I ran into that, I had just paid off my 66 Chevy metallic maroon Belaire,

and was visiting Kent with my best friend. Sociology class. Nothing about sociology, mind you.

But it was praising communism and socialism, and really trashing the existence of our

United States, etc etc etc.

Well, the was about 40 of us sitting there, and finally, I couldn't take it anymore. Hell,

I wasn't in the class, and didn't have to worry about my grade, eh?

So, I raised my hand, and asked her why there were no justifucation of her unwarranted claims,

and it was on. I made her look like she was worse than special ed, the whole class gave me

an ovation, she turned red, and yelled that ...wait a minute, I wasn't even IN HER CLASS, GET OUT!

hahahahahaha. They were still applauding as I walked out the door.

There are plenty more of them. They are leftists - fighting "windmills" as some kind of "gallant" fight

for whatever it is that makes them feel like they are extremely important... or something.

What you are describing is what they do to all of the "behavior disorder" kids. I dealt with them for years. The schools are hamstrung and so to get a bunch of unruly turds out of their school system they just promote them along. It does them no favors but I think they presume that all of the kids are just lost causes.

Chris, "common core" is NOT wanted. It isn't standardization - it's more

open-ended pro-liberal attempts at "infiltrating" our education system.

Hey, I've talked to some democrat voting, liberal teachers - and they say

they are against common core for that reason.

It isn't math, all too often it's social engineering, liberally.

"If johnny is gay, and julie thinks she's a boy, and they have four apples, and

they each take half the apples, how many apples to they each have, and is

that the same # of apples, as if they were straight?"

that's more a joke about what I'm saying, but you should read some of the questions

on some of the tests. It's appalling.

That is really what "common core" is.

"no child left behind" was a noble ambition, but it had major flaws - like not considering

included special education students in the mix of overall improvement score of standardized

testss.

really not a valid idea. Nobody thought about that. That's one flaw....

Just remember that the hard working people over 50 are the ones who birthed and raised the millennials and decided to give them all a fucking trophy. Just saying.

ugghhh. You know what's worse to me than missing those questions? Nailing the others. I could shrug and say whatever to the missed questions, some people just don't care. But to nail those stupid questions just shows our culture is so material laden. I know this is going to start a shitstorm....but facts are facts at this point, our brand of capitalism is responsible in large part for people being more consumed with modern pop culture than knowing even the slightest whiff of history. It's imperative that people be consumed with the lives of useless twats because that's what sells. Welcome to capitalism.

I bet anything the Soviets have ear to ear grins when they analyze us. They played the long game while we played short. The will probably win in the end because we put forth to the world this odious obnoxious form of over materialistic capitalism that has very real consequences to resource management around the globe. I know it's unsubstantiated, but I'd bet a few bucks it's true that Putin brought up the bee die off to Obama. According to the rumor he told him that if it continues and it's proven to be one of these American companies responsible, it's worth going to war over. "IF" he actually did say that, he's right. And if the bee die offs continue and the Russians prove it's one of our fuck brands, the world will turn on us you all watch. And guess who's positioning themselves for the world to turn to? Americans will be consumed with their own material culture to probably give a fuck anyway

And they're also the ones that created this bubble economy that almost requires the younger generations to be consumerist know nothing pubes that do as they're marketed to do.
