I don't know if it is possible for the republicans to put off this appointment until after the election but if they can they better do it. We already have 4 extreme liberal justices who vote lockstep and one more appointed by Obama is going to totally change the direction of this country.

Sad day. RIP Scalia a great constitutional judge.

A true originalist... as long as being one suited his purpose.

Looks like an 8-person SCOTUS until sometime next year...

I would not be surprised if we find out that he was

poisoned with radiotive isotope like the russians used...

but seriously, this is sad for his family, and dangerous for

our country, especially our Consitution.

and I do mean, dangerous.

Sleep easy... O'Connell and now Grassley haves much as said they will not move on any nomination until after the election. Nomination(s) will be made. Repub leadership will table them.

Here's a concept... how about a Centrist? 4 Libs... 4 Cons... and a tie-breaker? Or do you really want to roll the dice on who will be the next President and who will control the Senate a year from now?

The Supreme Court already has a centrist justice in Kennedy. I would like to see a constitutional justice replace someone like Scalia. I don't think Obama has the DNA to nominate anyone close to a centrist anyway. I would take my chances winning in November as I don't think the democrats could be putting up a weaker candidate than Hillary Clinton.

With O'Connell and Grassley staking out their positions? Obama will go very centrist and let the GOP nominees and Congress go berserk over a reasonable candidate and drag their feet. That will draw the distinction between the right and the independent middle even more starkly.

Just remember... you had a chance when I offered the centrist.

You say "vote lockstep" like its a bad thing...

oh, liberal judges. I see.

Voting lockstep would be fine if they were conservative then

If McConnell holds his ground and does what he says he will do he will redeem himself a little bit.

lol... here's one for you.

If you delay...

... and the Dems hold the White House and take back the Senate (both more than possible)...

Obama could be the next SCOTUS nominee...

Sleep well.... :)

If the dems take the White House and Senate and we have a continuation of the last 8 years of Obama we will probably have reached the point of no return anyway and I don't think the Supreme Court is going to matter all that much (even with Obama).

A bit, but the socialist intel services in russian DID do it. And, one avowed socialist

is running for pres. And higgardly is surely every bit as corrupt as the kgb.

Hence, the sarcastic connection. Sorry, it was just right there.

and, oddly enough, here is what I posted way back, July 2011 in the Kagan thread:

Obamao and co are socialists, and getting rid of political opposition

is what socialists do in russia....

Can we impeach a Supreme Court justice? I hope?

We should if she lied to get on the Court for OBamao.
I hope there's a lot of security for the conservative justices on the Court -
I wouldn't put it past Obamao's regime to try to get him another appt
before he loses the presidency in 2012.

only it's 2016.

Don't even try to enforce the inapplicable don't-speak-ill-of-the-dead "rule" for the highly polarizing, deeply consequential Antonin Scalia

Two questions.

Has there ever been a time when there was a liberal majority on the SCOTUS?

What's the likelihood of the Senate delaying the appointment for 342 days?

The longest it's taken to appoint someone is 125 days, but only a few presidents have appointed in their final year.

It's an unbelievable shame that today's elected officials put their political parties ahead of the 300 -some million folks in this country. Yeah, that's what Ben Franklin, George Washington, & company envisioned back at the Constitutional Congress' back in the 1770s.

Nominate some folks and get on with the process of appointing a new justice.

It's stupid to think that the rep controlled Congress should give a

cowardly "ok" to another liberal asshole judge on the Supreme Court.

That's really stupid. Say, how about demanding that Obamao put HIS

political aspirations away, and nominate a conservative originalist

just like Scalia to the court, putting aside a giant, longterm battle,

appropriately representing the will of most Americans, and getting

a quick ok on that nominee?

Any lib think Obamao will do that? Any conservative think Obamao the Assholeness would think about it?

I don't see it. Of course he will nominate left of center judges, and play dirty destructive politics right to the end.

and libs will rail against... Congress.

Did the founding fathers envision that ^ though?

Do you think the Founding Fathers put the 2nd Amendment into our

Constitution so a liberal marxist could change the Supreme Court

into his own tool, and delete it right back out ?

Keeping in mind, that amendments are ADDITIONS to the Constitution,

and never are political weapon deletions.

Will you ever answer a question?

Do...you....think....Obamao.....should nominate..... a nominee with

very similar qualifications as an originalist, so as to help the country

move on and not hinder the Court?

Or, do you think that Congress has to approve of the most far left,

anti-2nd Amendment, pro-all abortion, political tool nominee?
