flyingfooldoug Posted February 21, 2016 Report Posted February 21, 2016 It is long overdue but the Browns are erecting a statue to Jim Brown at the stadium this year. With his NFL record, all I can say is GREAT!
miktoxic Posted February 21, 2016 Report Posted February 21, 2016 sorta like the OJ statue in his own front yard in the opening episode of cali v. oj simpson?
BaconHound Posted February 21, 2016 Report Posted February 21, 2016 Quite possibly the greatest football player ever and OG domestic violence scumbag, Browns erect statue, sounds about right.
flyingfooldoug Posted February 22, 2016 Author Report Posted February 22, 2016 I thought he paid his debt to society. He also beat up a car and paid for that. Assholes!
Osiris Posted February 22, 2016 Report Posted February 22, 2016 I'm fine with a Jim Brown statue. They ought to be putting up a Paul Brown statue first, though.
gftChris Posted February 22, 2016 Report Posted February 22, 2016 I'm fine with a Jim Brown statue. They ought to be putting up a Paul Brown statue first, though. And an art modell effigy, once per year.
Tour2ma Posted February 22, 2016 Report Posted February 22, 2016 They ought to be putting up a Paul Brown statue first, though. Not after the way Paul moved the Browns to Cincinnati!
Browns_Fucking_Rule Posted February 22, 2016 Report Posted February 22, 2016 I like that they are putting this statue up for Jim... I think its the right thing to do. I also agree with putting a Paul Brown statue up. Every year this comes up and it wont go away unit its done.
gumby73 Posted February 22, 2016 Report Posted February 22, 2016 Jim Brown. The guy that is still ranked like 9th in rushing yards in like 50 years of the NFL? Enough said.. Get him a island too..
Mudfly Posted February 25, 2016 Report Posted February 25, 2016 Jim Brown. The guy that is still ranked like 9th in rushing yards in like 50 years of the NFL? Enough said.. Get him a island too.. And still the only player to average over 100 ypg....ever.....
jrb12711 Posted February 25, 2016 Report Posted February 25, 2016 I'm just not sure I can get past what Jim Brown did in his past. I get a lot of charges were dismissed, but that's the same as saying Bill Cosby never assaulted women because he was never convicted. We rip Ray Rice and Big Ben for actions they weren't charged for but Jim Brown gets a pass and that's just dumb. To go to the level of putting up a statue is really dubious to me and something that just doesn't need to be done.
calfoxwc Posted February 25, 2016 Report Posted February 25, 2016 I'd donate to build a statue of LEROY KELLY. and I'd donate to tear down a statue of domestic/racial bigotry of the past. Never believed in Jim Brown as a human being off the field. Too bad this bs ignores how excellent Leroy Kelly is

Guest Posted February 26, 2016 Report Posted February 26, 2016 Get a set, people, Washington and Jefferson had slaves and they have National Monuments. This guy is the the greatest FOOTBALL PLAYER of all time, he's done bad things, he's done good things, but he's a once in a lifetime talent and he's ours. Babe Ruth Jim Brown Michael Jordan Wayne Gretzky There is only four of them. And the one that played the most popular sport in the USA was ours. He threw a model off a balcony ... alledgedly .. And it was a one-story balcony. Who hasn't done that? Some windshields were broken, some charges never stuck, and lots of kids grew up in a better environment thanks to Jim Brown. Whatever. He's Babe Ruth. New York slobbers all over his hot dog eating, fat ass, sexist, pure white records. Cleveland wants to apologize because Brown misbehaved 50 years ago. Grow up. No one can stop him, no one ever could, cant wait to get my picture taken in front of the statue. Z

When you try to judge yesteryears events according to today's moral values...it don't work. Dames used to get slapped in the movies all the time and it WAS accepted in the community. Not today tho. And to add too Zs post. Read about Ty Cobb and then get self righteous.
jrb12711 Posted February 26, 2016 Report Posted February 26, 2016 When you try to judge yesteryears events according to today's moral values...it don't work. Dames used to get slapped in the movies all the time and it WAS accepted in the community. Not today tho. And to add too Zs post. Read about Ty Cobb and then get self righteous. You are literally justifying a man beating up a woman because he played football well, both of you are. We joke and have a good time around here but that's honestly just deplorable. If it's being self-righteous to not support a woman-beater, than call me a self-righteous asshole I suppose. Time doesn't make that okay.
calfoxwc Posted February 26, 2016 Report Posted February 26, 2016 I'm not saying Jim Brown is a dirtbag now. But his past is just that, and I'll never respect him as much as Leroy Kelly.
flyingfooldoug Posted February 26, 2016 Author Report Posted February 26, 2016 I don't justify what he did. The era does tho. History! learn it, love it, live it.
jrb12711 Posted February 26, 2016 Report Posted February 26, 2016 I don't justify what he did. The era does tho. History! learn it, love it, live it. No, it doesn't. Maybe where ever the fuck you're from it was okay to hit women, but where I was raised in Ohio it sure as shit wasn't. In fact, my grandfather told me at 84 years old that if I ever laid a wrong hand on my wife he'd personally beat the crap out of me. He has a story about a neighbor who was a wife beater who was in a coma after the neighborhood took care of it. It was never "historically okay" to beat defenseless women, so saying it's part of Jim Brown's era as an excuse is honestly just sobering that people see it that way.

You're right about that. That is why he was investigated and charged. And he atoned acording to those times. Now to repunish him is whats called double jeopardy. He didn't kill and did his time.
wargograw Posted February 27, 2016 Report Posted February 27, 2016 There's a difference between "beating" and a slap. It's my impression the latter used to be moderately condoned.
flyingfooldoug Posted February 27, 2016 Author Report Posted February 27, 2016 There's a difference between "beating" and a slap. It's my impression the latter used to be moderately condoned. There was a very popular tv show at the time called The Honeymooners. A common phrase there was.. To the moon Alice.... Implying a slap. Or more. I was a kid then but I knew what it meant. The Romans liked their blood sports too. We should tear down all that exists of them because they thought it entertaining to feed humans to lions?
flyingfooldoug Posted February 27, 2016 Author Report Posted February 27, 2016 Ideally, they should pay tribute to Otto Graham, Paul and Jim Brown with statues. Then mold urinal cakes in the likeness of tar modell and have one in each toilet in the stadium.
OldBrownsFan Posted February 27, 2016 Report Posted February 27, 2016 I've never been big on statues of anyone but if the Browns did have one Jim Brown would be one that would be high on anyone's list of names.
BaconHound Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 You are literally justifying a man beating up a woman because he played football well, both of you are. We joke and have a good time around here but that's honestly just deplorable. If it's being self-righteous to not support a woman-beater, than call me a self-righteous asshole I suppose. Time doesn't make that okay. +1 And it doesn't take more than 5 minutes of an interview with Jim Brown to sum him up, egomaniacal badass. That is probably what made him such a great football player but era doesn't excuse it, may rationalize, but doesn't make it right. Let's not forget the Cleveland Browns, a team that in recent his is begging for positivity to sell it's fans, told him to get the fuck out (Holmgren)
jrb12711 Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 If Jim Browns can have a statue for beating women up, why can't Johnny Manziel? This honestly might be the most poignant thing you have ever said.
TexasAg1969 Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 If Jim Browns can have a statue for beating women up, why can't Johnny Manziel? Too hard to sculpt a swan dive.

BaconHound Posted March 2, 2016 Report Posted March 2, 2016 I take Bird over Magic. Z Love Bird but the numbers don't lie Michael Jordan
