Can Bosa actually play OLB'er?

I saw him in those drop back drills yesterday and he straight up looked like a LB'er. Ask no more of him than a shallow zone and put his hands down at least 50% of the time and maybe he can play 3-4 strong side. He looked better dropping back than any of your Jack's right now.

Anybody know what he weighed in at? he looked a little leaner is why I ask. Can't nobody argue though this dude is gonna produce at a decently high level for whoever takes him. I wish it was us but man it looks like we're picking a sit me down for a year or two project boy.

There's no way to ignore the qb position with Goff and Wentz there, to

take a "maybe" can play 3-4 lb. He ran a 4.86, was it?

nah.

About that, yes. Same as Watt, for what it's worth. Also the same as a bunch of scrubs who have never played a competitive down.

To the point, by far the biggest impact anyone could have on this team is if we drafted a franchise QB. That might not be this season, but we're hardly 'one piece away' from SB51. If Hue and Harvardiers think a QB is worth that pick, a 2 or 32 or wherever, they should absolutely go get him and fuck every position, because unless you have that once in a decade, transcendental, pro-bowl everywhere D like Denver or '06 Ravens you're not winning without at least a Flacco-level QB.

Play OLB? Sure... Play well? No... He's a 4-3 DE.

I think a lot of 3-4 teams scratched a Bosa yesterday.

Yes, we need better DL play. No, we don't need to draft it *this year* due to the prospects available. Bosa won't have the impact of a Donald/Wilkerson.. He'll probably be solid, but so is Star Lotulelei.

Note that Noah Spence will not be a first-round pick after his saggy performance yesterday in both the 40 and interviews.. Would he be in play at 32? The issue is his overall lack of explosion translating to inability to get by the tackle.. so he'd just sit behind Orchard anyway.

This is the deepest defensive front 7 draft in a while, I'm hoping someone with a first-round grade slips to 32 because someone went need instead of BPA.

Will Ngakoue or Washington be available in the 3rd?

I think you are right. He might go to Dallas or the Jags and I'm thinking Buckner may actually go before Bosa.

I also think that the 3 teams after us want D players and gives us a great opportunity to trade down and keep our 1st choice of QB's.

I will be truly po'd if we take the QB @2 and the next 3 are all D players.

Edit: The reason I think those 3 go D is they paid attention to how the Broncos won and this is a D oriented draft this year along with OL.

If he goes to the Jags, and assuming Fowler recovers from his knee last offseason, they could be a bit scary. A well thought out FA signing - maybe Rubin and Fairley? - and they have a very mean front 4.

we'll be so stupid not to take him if he's there at #2. Looking at his pad drills he's as strong and explosive as these 290lb guys and drops back like a LB'er in coverage. That kind of versatility is freakish. He's only going to get stronger and faster too. He's the consensus best edge rusher in the draft now. Couple that with what we've seen him do in run defense and he's a no brainer. If we're keeping all our guys from last year than really we can afford to basically make him added depth for a year and then we should be comfortable getting rid of some guys (kruger) the following year.

I know we need a QB but if we're gonna project a guy wait till the 32. And if we get Kaepernick, please anybody stop with the notion of taking a QB with the 2nd pick. If you think we still need to pass on defensive player, with our shit defense, at #2 when we have Kaepernick on staff.....I question what you know of football. Forget about a single guy, ie Bosa....we just need to draft defense. We need to build a young defense and stop signing these over the hill overpaid jagoffs looking for their last big paychecks on work they did for other teams. We just can't do this anymore.

FFS, we're finally in a position, after years of being 'just good enough to not be able to draft the top QB' where we can actually have our pick of QBs, and people want to waste that, based on what, a good DE? Sure, Bosa will probably be pro-bowl level or there abouts, but ask JJ Watt how being an elite DE on a team with no QB works out. MVP level play out of him gets his team maybe to 9-7, MVP level play from a QB get their team to the playoffs.

chris, our pick of QB's in a draft class where people are blatantly stating all of these guys are 2nd round talent. C'mon dude ffs. You want to waste the first pick on a guy who might not be much better than JM. Sorry i'm not into it. Not when our defense is SHIT!! I'm tired of watching our defense give up 150yds a game. Way more tired of that than our QB play which imo isn't our biggest deficiency. The QB's we have aren't going to win us a SB but ffs would this team make a deep playoff run with Tom Brady as our QB? NO!!! And I know that cause we saw in the playoffs what Tom Brady looked like when his protection broke down. Which would be a weekly situation for him here in Cleveland.

Who (apart from EmDiggy for some reason) is saying that? Because I'm yet to read anything like that.

Carson Wentz and Jared Goff won't start on opening day next year. So we're making a two year bet on a project. Meanwhile players like Mack are becoming the cornerstones of their team.

Yeah it'd suck if we had a Blake Bortles type of player on our hands. I'd hate it so much if we drafted a guy and he took a whole year to develop in to a franchise level QB. That would be terrible, I don't know how I'd cope. You're right, let's pick a DL at 2 in one of the deepest DL drafts in living memory.

Posted

Is Blake Bortles in this draft? If so I might stand corrected but people pretty much said Bortles might take a year or two but that he was NFL ready from day one. Same with Mariota. NOBODY is saying that about either of these guys. The combine reporters made it abundantly clear that these guys were being way over reached on.

Unless Goff and Wentz show they are not worth the number 2 pick, I would just take the QB and wait until later for the DL. A good outside LB would be nice but I would like a good ILB more myself and then use our 3rd rounder for a DL or OLB. We could also use another DB and WR at some point but after watching the combine I am not so keen on picking a WR before round 4 or later.

all of those defensive players will be gone by 32 sooooo. And Bosa is the best one of them. I would have been happy with Smith though too cause we are desperately in need of a stud LB'er as we are in need of an edge rusher/protector.

I'm very curious as to Bosa's wonderlic score. When he was in the booth with the guys, well I'll just say that he didn't come off as a rocket scientist.

"Bortles is not the best quarterback in this draft class. He's not nearly as ready to step in and play from day one "

http://www.sbnation.com/nfl-mock-draft/2014/4/14/5612372/blake-bortles-2014-nfl-draft-scouting-report

"As Bortles continues to develop his field vision and anticipation, he could turn into a good starter in the NFL. Thus, Bortles would be better off sitting behind a veteran to start out his rookie year. "

"Mariota needs development, so it may not benefit him to start immediately."

"Mariota is a project, more so than a regular draft prospect."

I'm sure there are more, but I'm at work so only have a few minutes. Literally every article I've read has Goff and Wentz going minimum top-10 (again, apart from OutlierDiggy).

All gone by 32.....NO WAY IN HELL!!! After sitting down and watching ALL day Sunday at over 50 DL/LBs

do their thing. We could easily get a 1st round graded player at 32 and a 2nd round graded player

in the 3rd!!!! So take the QB Hue wants and go DL/LB in the 2nd AND 3rd! Maybe trade back up into the 2nd or 3rd to get a WR or OL or TE or.....hell with the rest if our tradable picks and use the

Comp picks for....BPA! GO BROWNS

Posted

Bortles and Mariota were not considered projects to the likes of the kids this year. I mean c'mon people were talking about trading up for Mariota, not just the Browns. I mean comparing these guys to Mariota is simply...I dunno....Mariota played in the national championship. Yeah he had some cuts against him, mainly his size....but nobody reputable was saying Mariota is potentially even a 3rd rounder like some people are saying some of the qb's this year are that people are thinking about reaching on.

But fine, you all want a dude who's gonna sit all next year and have to compete for the spot in year two...fine. Can't wait to watch 3rd string RB's compete for rusher of the week against our defense than do absolutely shit the rest of the year. Can't wait. No really I can't wait. I simply cannot wait for the season to begin so I can sit and watch our defense get rolled just like these guys have the last 3 years. Cause it's all gonna change this year right? This is the year we stop the run right fella's? Can't wait to buy my Carson Wentz or Jared Goff jersey either. Gonna look sweet sporting a bench rider for two years and then he's gone in year 3. Can't wait. No really I can't wait.

Posted

Again, who is suggesting that Goff or Wentz is a third rounder? I see also it's been downgraded from second to third round.

Posted

Wentz played in and WON two national championships! Mariotta LOST the only one he played in.....

Wentz may sit some next year so what! The point is this is a deeeeeep DL/LB draft! We neeeeed a QB

And #2 is where we can get one that's AFC north worthy. Unless you want Hackensack or Jones or.....

Choose another LOSER in rd 3or 4 to ride the bench for at least two years or more

Yup... you, I and others have been putting these facts in front of Cleve, Gipper and others for weeks... hasn't gotten through yet.

Why expect it to now?

No, they won't.

We will get one of them at 32, and possibly at 65 [TEN has the 1st pick of rd3].

If Schwartz leaves, 65 probably will be a replacement RT, but otherwise both day2 picks will be front-7 players. And they'll both be good.

Just Diggy. About every mock out there has us taking Goff or Wentz at #2.
