MLD Woody Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 This is the definition of irony. http://www.wpxi.com/news/news/national/4-year-old-accidentally-shoots-mother-backseat-car/nqgbm/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/03/09/my-4-year-old-gets-jacked-up-to-target-shoot-gun-loving-mom-brags-hours-before-her-little-boy-shoots-her/?tid=pm_national_pop_b (I'm posting this for the irony/dark humor, not necessarily for any political view. But obviously this thread will go that route)
jbluhm86 Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 Why all the hubbub? The child was just exercising his 2nd amendment right. It's a classic example of the (Bouncy) Castle Doctrine. Regardless, he's going to make a fine inner city police officer one day...
OldBrownsFan Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 This was an unfortunate and sad accident by the gun owner being careless. These things happen. She could have also wrecked her car due to carelessness but I don't want to see any banning of cars. Being careful and safety minded is the lesson to be learned here whether you are handling firearms or driving a car.
Westside Steve Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 Too bad they didn't give the kid a background check. WSS
bbedward Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 Irresponsible gun owner - make the responsible ones look bad. The poor kid is probably deaf now too.
The Cysko Kid Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 I have four year old children. I have a doubt as to whether they have the requisite strength to rack a weapon. My boy has trouble racking a nerf gun. So off body carry with one in the hole and no safety = bad idea.
Pumpkin Eater Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 If the gun was on the floor was the kid not buckled into the child seat? And who leaves a gun loose on the floor of the car where it can slide around? It's a fake story.
calfoxwc Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 or, her husband stupidly left his gun in the back of her seat, in one of those magazine type slot jobbies. If true, it's extremely irrespsonsible no matter what happened. Obviously, the mother did not put the gun there. Who knows. Seems to stupid to be true.
LogicIsForSquares Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 Off body carry never has good results Yup. Really stupid.
LogicIsForSquares Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 Fake story. The local news story from the shooting is in the article. I remember hearing about this as soon as it happened. This is just Darwin at work because mom is dangerously negligent.
MLD Woody Posted March 13, 2016 Author Report Posted March 13, 2016 Fake story. Because you want it to be, or because you have evidence saying it is
Legacy Fan Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 My kids are twice that age. They've never held any of my pistols. Loaded or unloaded. We've shot the 22 rifle plenty, and they know that every gun is always loaded- regardless of if it is or not. No way in hell I leave a pistol rolling around the back seat.
OldBrownsFan Posted March 14, 2016 Report Posted March 14, 2016 The way to stop a bad guy with a hatchet is a good guy with a gun: *A customer at a 7-Eleven store outside Seattle shot and killed a masked man who attacked a clerk with an ax early Sunday. Investigators said the shooting happened at the store in White Center at approximately 5:45 a.m. local time. Witnesses said the man entered the store and swung a hatchet toward the customer before turning his attention to the clerk. Authorities said the man who shot the attacker had a concealed carry permit and likely would not face charges as a result of his action. "This could have been a lot worse,” King County Sheriff’s Sergeant Cindi West told KCPQ. “The clerk could be the one laying there dead on the floor right now.” http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/03/14/customer-with-concealed-carry-permit-fatally-shoots-axe-wielding-attacker-at-7-eleven.html
jbluhm86 Posted March 14, 2016 Report Posted March 14, 2016 My first reaction after reading this story was "when you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail".

No doubt....guess this mom is one person that doesnt make the responsible gun owners list.... I bought my daughter her 22, when she was eleven. She already had experience shooting, but it opened the opportunity for plenty of open discussion and proper education about gun ownership and the associated responsibility. I also believe her early indoctrination into how to shoot and handle a weapon eliminated that natural curiosity that any kid would have about that thing in Dads closet that they arent allowed to touch.
