The Gipper Posted March 15, 2016 Report Posted March 15, 2016 With this thread I am not only talking about what teams need a QB....because theirs may suck...but also who may be needing one due to the age of their starting QB....even though established. Here, in order from oldest to youngest are the ages of the projected starting QBs in the league when the season starts: New England: Tom Brady 39 Cleveland: Josh McCown 37 New Orleans: Drew Brees 37 Arizona: Carson Palmer 36 Dallas: Tony Romo 36 NY Giants: Eli Manning 35 NY Jets: Ryan Fitzpatrick 34 Pittsburgh: Ben Roethlisberger 34 San Diego: Phillip Rivers 34 Green Bay: Aaron Rodgers 32 Chicago: Jay Cutler 32 Baltimore: Joe Flacco 31 Kansas City: Alex Smith 31 Atlanta: Matt Ryan 30 Denver: Mark Sanchez 29 Detroit: Matt Stafford 28 LA Rams: Case Keenum 28 Philadelphia: Sam Bradford 28 Miami: Ryan Tannehill 27 Seattle: Russell Wilson 27 Washington: Kirk Cousins 27 San Francisco: Blaine Gabbert 26 Indianapolis: Andrew Luck 26 Carolina: Cam Newton 26 Buffalo: Tyrod Taylor 26 Houston: Brock Osweiler 25 Oakland: Derek Carr 24 Jacksonville: Blake Bortles 23 Minnesota: Teddy Twatwater 23 Tampa Bay: Jameis Winston 22 Tennessee: Marcus Mariota 22
The Gipper Posted March 15, 2016 Author Report Posted March 15, 2016 Teams with immediate needs for a new starting QB in my opinion: Browns, 49ers, and likely Rams and maybe Broncos...and maybe Jets if Fitz walks. Teams probably/possibly in need of a future project QB: Patriots (though have Garropolo), Cardinals, Saints, Cowboys...and Jets under any circumstances (unless you think Geno Smith or Bryce Petty fit that bill). Teams that may want to give it some serious thought for the future: Giants, Steelers, Chargers
gftChris Posted March 15, 2016 Report Posted March 15, 2016 Everyone from the bears/cutler up, excluding packers/rodgers would take a QB at the right price.
The Gipper Posted March 15, 2016 Author Report Posted March 15, 2016 Everyone from the bears/cutler up, excluding packers/rodgers would take a QB at the right price. Every team may take somebody on a flyer project.....but I am most interested in which would make a serious heavy investment in a future QB in this draft.....like a first rounder, second at least. My thought process being: if by some chance the Browns pass on a QB with #2....is there a chance that one of say the top 3 candidates: Wentz/Goff/Lynch....could slide to #32? It seems to me that the Broncos would want to continue to win now....and that they won't turn that team over to a raw rookie. The Niners and Rams however certainly/likely would. If by chance ONLY those two take a QB in Rd. 1....then a guy may still be there....unless one of these teams take that serious flyer. (most likely candidate as I see it: Cowboys) In other words, who else besides the Browns are in the market for a first/second round QB?
The Gipper Posted March 15, 2016 Author Report Posted March 15, 2016 Note: in our Mock draft, the top 3 QBs were gone after 15 picks: Rams/49ers....no surprise. But Bears took a guy. That was a bit of a surprise, no?
gftChris Posted March 15, 2016 Report Posted March 15, 2016 When I say would take a QB, I mean is someone like Goff/Wentz fell to their second rounder they'd not hesitate (like Rodgers).
The Gipper Posted March 15, 2016 Author Report Posted March 15, 2016 When I say would take a QB, I mean is someone like Goff/Wentz fell to their second rounder they'd not hesitate (like Rodgers). Except, there I would be perfectly willing to grab one of them with our #32 pick...and not let them drop...if we didn't take one with #2.

Or luck plays in with the choice along with chance.

Broncos may not have a choice..if they can't get Kapernick, they aren't going with Mark Sanchez. Niners and Rams are definite QB needy teams. I could see a team like the Cowboys trading back into the first round if one of the guys is still there in the late teens or early 20's just because Romo is old and fragile and they lost every game he didn't start last year. The Bears are another one who would take a guy and I could see the Chargers even trading next years #1 if they liked a guy bad enough to move back into the 20's to take a guy to sit behind Rivers for a couple years. So to answer the initial question...I don't see a chance in hell of Wentz, Goff, or Lynch sliding all the way to 32.
Mudfly Posted March 15, 2016 Report Posted March 15, 2016 Note: in our Mock draft, the top 3 QBs were gone after 15 picks: .... Bears took a guy. That was a bit of a surprise, no? No.....of course, Im not surprised because I picked him......but they have Jay Cutler and he's an over paid, underperforming, disinterested bum with only one year left on his contract.....I assure you, they desperately want him gone....

And now Gase is gone, he will likely revert to form, the form that had the bears trying to trade him for nothing.

The Gipper Posted March 16, 2016 Author Report Posted March 16, 2016 Some services that I have seen still put Connor Cook on the cusp of 1st/2d round. I know I have heard all about him from all y'all about what a bad guy he is. But...at #32? Though, I suspect that he will go to one of those teams that have a QB approaching the 35 year old mark...in a later round...and that he will become their project QB.
gftChris Posted March 16, 2016 Report Posted March 16, 2016 If we're going to take a QB, it needs to either be an unquestionable 'QB of the future' or a project we can stash for a while. None of this 'well he could be great in the right situation' business we've had so much of.

None of this 'well he could be great in the right situation' business we've had so much of. There are none of the former in this draft class. Sorry. If it is to be a stashable project.....it would have to be a later round pick. You don't use #2 on that.

If he's a bad project and a bad guy what the fuck's the difference if he goes number 1 overall or the bottom of the seventh round? WSS
Tour2ma Posted March 16, 2016 Report Posted March 16, 2016 There are none of the former in this draft class. Sorry. Are, too...
gftChris Posted March 16, 2016 Report Posted March 16, 2016 Are, too... Yep, back on that old chestnut. No point saying otherwise, THE GIPPER HAS SPOKEN
The Gipper Posted March 16, 2016 Author Report Posted March 16, 2016 If he's a bad project and a bad guy what the fuck's the difference if he goes number 1 overall or the bottom of the seventh round? WSS Ask yourself that question: Were you more pissed about the performance, or lack thereof of Trent Richardson or of Garrett Gilkey?
The Gipper Posted March 16, 2016 Author Report Posted March 16, 2016 Are, too... Yea, you think these guys are Peyton and Eli rolled into one. Well.....Blaine Gabbert and Case Keenum ARE starting QBs in this league. And they have both been around for a while....so maybe these guys are future starting NFL QBs....of that quality.
Westside Steve Posted March 16, 2016 Report Posted March 16, 2016 Ask yourself that question: Were you more pissed about the performance, or lack thereof of Trent Richardson or of Garrett Gilkey? In this case it's probably more equal only because if we're drafting this guy to be the starting quarterback for X number of years and he's another bust, it still sets us back. Plus we got a nice draft pick for Richardson. WSS
