EA Sports had the exclusive rights, for the FIFA franchise, so Konami just created generic teams, like "Man Red" and "West London Blue" instead of Man United and Chelsea. The teams were listed in alphabetical order of the real names, and the players were just very similar. Immediately upon purchasing the game, everyone goes to the unofficial support forum where you can download a data pack that overwrites all of the missing data with the real stuff and hey presto, you've got a perfectly functioning game. With this giant lawsuit going on, I'm not sure what options are available.
