As to open borders it is no secret the democrats have wanted those borders open seeing new voters who will keep them in power.

 

There also are many republicans who get large donations from the chamber of commerce wing of the party that also were not doing anything except talking about building a wall and securing the border. For decades republicans were doing nothing to actually secure the border because their big donors wanted the cheap labor coming across the border. This is one of the main reasons the base of the republican party has turned on the establishment. They knew they were being hoodwinked by these republican candidates who would say things about securing the border to get elected and then go to Washington and not act on the promises they made.
